Weird, isn't it? I don't mind people forming an opinion about an actor's ability, if they've seen them in multiple roles over the years. For instance, I wasn't all that pleased about Ben Affleck when he was announced, because he's never been the strongest of actors - and definitely nowhere near Christian Bale's calibre. But he still gave a decent performance, despite not having the greatest range. It wasn't his fault his characterisation failed, and in another writer and director's hands, I think he could have had a solid, long run as the character.
But as soon as I saw that Pattinson had been cast, I was ecstatic, and I'd long thought he would make a great Batman - because I'd already seen him in movies like Good Time, Cosmopolis and High Life. His catalogue of performances is in some way similar to Christian Bale's independent work. But if the only thing you've seen him in is Twilight, you'd never think he'd make a good Batman.
