Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions are developing a series based on the “Twisted Metal” vehicular combat games, the first of which was released in 1995. It was originally reported in 2019 that Sony was interested in developing a series based on the games.

“’Twisted Metal’ is one of the most beloved franchises from PlayStation,” said Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions. “We are thrilled to have such a great team working on bringing this iconic game to life for the fans.”

The show is about a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown named who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck, whom fans of the game will know as Sweet Tooth.

Man, I really want a new Twisted Metal. Maybe a successor to Black, or remake that's very Black-like. I couldn't get into the last Twisted Metal for the life of me, and it crushed my soul. I've always loved the Twisted Metal series and was SO excited to finally be getting a new game. But the gameplay changes were so odd IMO. Especially the whole changing vehicles thing.

This feels like the kind of thing where I won't believe it's truly happening until they're actually filming a full season of the show.

Going "action comedy" is probably the only viable course for Twisted Metal though. Even if it's not at all in the edgy grim dark spirit of the original. They'd have to go more of a "horror" route if they wanted to capture the spirit of the original imo.

TM on PS2. One of the first PS2 games I got. Awesome 60 fps action. Only problem is the AI enemies seem to make a beeline attacking you right away. No doubt the algorithm made you public enemy #1 even if you just started the match.

He made a comment in his recent reaction video for the mortal kombat movie, this must have been what he was referring to... he didn't want to mention names but also didn't seem very happy about it which makes me worried about this series. :/ I loved loved loved the Twisted Metal games when i was a teenager. One of my favorites on the system.
