Yandere Simulator was a heavily anticipated game in 2016. Demo versions of the game were launched regularly, and big YouTubers like Jacksepticeye and Markiplier posted about it several times for its funny and novel stealth gameplay. Yandere Simulator follows a high schooler named Ayano Aishi, who has an unhealthy level of obsession with her senpai (upperclassman) Taro. In order to win Taro’s heart, she must eliminate her rivals.

A video emerged on TikTok on September 25, 2023, showing a person who alleged that they were groomed by the Yandere Simulator developer. Although the video was originally posted on YouTube, it has since been deleted with a copyright strike (by Yandere simulator). The clip showed details of Yandere Dev's alleged inappropriate interactions with a minor. A few hours after this, the game developer took to his blog to apologize and own up to his mistakes.

On September 25th, 2023, X user @VAMichaelaLaws(the voice actress and voice director of Yandere-Chan) posted a note in which she said that after a decade of supporting the project and having numerous contributions on all levels, she was officially stepping down from it due to the recent allegations. This subsequently sent shockwaves through the community, with many quickly calling the game finally dead in the water without her voice and talent helping to prop it up

There are allegations, but is there evidence?

If you read the comments by both the dev and the "victim" (her way of describing herself), it doesn't seem that he's "discovered" to be a "groomer" at all:
A few months back, a fan of the game DM’d me and wanted to chat. I normally just turn fans away and tell them I’m busy, but in this case, the fan seemed really funny and interesting, so I agreed to talk. After around 2 months, I agreed to do a voice chat with her.

Right off the bat, she let me know that she was 16. At the time, I didn’t even perceive this as a problem. “What do I care what her age is? She’s just a funny fan of the game who wants to talk to me. This is no big deal!” I rationalized to myself that it was fine. (This was massive mistake #1. More to follow.)

We talked for a while, and eventually, I started to feel really comfortable speaking to her. I started talking to her the same way I would speak to any of my other friends – like she was “One of the Guys.” I made the same type of vulgar jokes that I make when voice chatting with my other friends. This was an absolutely unacceptable mistake. No grown-up should ever use adult language or make adult jokes in the presence of a minor. Just because I “felt really comfortable speaking to her,” that doesn’t make it okay. That’s no excuse, not in the slightest.

Occasionally, she would say something flirty towards me. Most of the time, I would shut that down immediately, and refused to reciprocate. However, there were times when I didn’t shut it down, and let her talk to me that way without stopping her.

At some point, she started recording our conversations so that she could share my jokes with her friends. However, one of her friends interpreted my remarks as showing sexual interest in her. They convinced her that I was trying to “groom” her, and that she should release all of her recordings to “expose” me.

Her friend pressured her into providing the recordings to a drama YouTuber who began producing a video about the situation. A preview of the video revealed that the intention of the video would be to characterize me as a predator/groomer by presenting clips of the conversation that sounded sexual.

Victim:
I messaged Dev because I'm a fan. He usually doesn't do voice calls but after 2 months, he finally agreed

He was soo distant at first but eventually he loosened up and started making jokes. Some of his jokes were so quotable (like "on jah on jah") so I started recording our conversations so I could make soundboard buttons out of Devs quotes

I really wasn't trying to bait him into saying bad things but I did ask him suspicious questions to hear weird/funny answers. Like sometimes I asked about topics like age of consent because it's an inside joke between me and my friends

If he gave a silly answer I would share it with my friends. One friend took some of his quotes waaaayy tooooo seriouslyyyyy and started saying that he sounds like a predator and that we need to expose him

I have a hard time saying no, so I agreed to do what he said. I shared every recording to a YouTuber named Ally, and she started making a video out of it

When Bug (the friend) started sharing clips of the video on TikTok I realized that he was twisting it. In the video, Ally made it seem like Dev sought me out and called me, which isn't true, I DM'd HIM first and I called HIM- NOT the other way around

I decided that the whole thing was blowing up in a really stupid way and told everyone involved that I didn't want them to use my (illegally taken) recordings to make a video anymore. Ally really wants release the video though so she keeps trying to manipulate me into thinking that I am a grooming victim. Even after I revoked my consent and told her to stop multiple times she still plans to release the video

I do NOT think that Dev is a groomer, I do NOT feel traumatized by him, and I am making this post to say that I OPPOSE what Ally is doing, and no matter what she does to try to protect my identity she is still harming me by releasing this video!!!

You really shouldn't be chatting with anyone that's underage on the internet. It doesn't matter, just don't do it under any circumstances. What a fucking idiot.
Yeah, especially if you're in any kind of "special" position. Even if there's nothing that's inherently bad or negative going on. Anything can be bent, altered, and then weaponized these days. It's not worth it at all, ever.

Who the hell calls it grooming? Its Pedophilia and nothing more. Using such a term just destroys its actual meaning.
No, that has the opposite effect because apparently it was a 16 year old? Using the pedo term actually destroys the meaning for when actual pedofilia occurs.

Don't know anything about that game but high school girls can be 18-19 yo. According to some people those are still suspectible to grooming if the guy they are meeting with is much older.

The "victim" was baiting and illegally recording him into saying things for her soundboard?
This sounds more like entrapment, not grooming. This kind of stuff gets thrown out in court.

I stopped visiting a lot of the art subreddits because it was just full of people uploading their shitty schoolgirl upskirts.

"Pedophilia (alternatively spelled paedophilia) is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children.[1][2]: vii  Although girls typically begin the process of puberty at age 10 or 11, and boys at age 11 or 12,[3] psychiatric diagnostic criteria for pedophilia extend the cut-off point for prepubescence to age 13."

"Ephebophilia is the primary sexual interest in mid-to-late adolescents, generally ages 15 to 18.[1] The term was originally used in the late 19th to mid-20th century.[1] It is one of a number of sexual preferences across age groups subsumed under the technical term chronophilia. Ephebophilia strictly denotes the preference for mid-to-late adolescent sexual partners, not the mere presence of some level of sexual attraction.[1] It is not a psychiatric diagnosis."

I have no clue how old the minor in question is, but I know people like to misuse the word pedophile these days. Did you know that 18 is still biologically considered a teen? Is it not "pedophilia" as well simply because the average ages of consent in most first world countries are 16-18?

I'm retarded?
Not to defend the creep but Americans sure have a weird double standard. if its some loner/creep guy everyone is going nuts. If its a fucking multi millionaire famous person? "Ah its fine". Im pretty sure your favorite actors or actresses have groomed a lot of times. It aint a secret.

she's 16, so yes not pedophilia; I've mentioned this many times, calling this stupid liberal use of the word infuriatingly disrespectful to actual victims of pedophilia; but gaf doesn't care, heck most people in the US don't care because they don't bother to look up what the word actually means, they just assume everything under 18 because that's what the age of consent is for them; it's fucking insane, but I've stopped caring anymore, use the word however wrong y'all want.

On a side note, why is nobody actually reading the details? The victim herself says this isn't true and he was basically set up.

Agreed. From what I've picked up on over the past several years, these sentiments seem to stem from feminism. As in, some late 30s-early 40s woman is jealous and insecure about the fact that most males tend to be attracted to younger females and will pursue them if they are physically attractive and financially stable enough to do so. On the other hand, it's completely understandable that the father and mother of an 18 year old female/male would have an issue with some 40 year old guy trying to bang their offspring. lol

There’s only one reason an adult would.

the minefield is unfortunate. it's not like there's a shortage of other subjects people could talk to children about.
but with allegations like these, the mere notion of a chat nowadays has horrifying connotations.
