Damn I just checked showings tonight out of curiosity and all 6 showings are sold out at my local cinema. Usually most films struggle to get more than 10 people in a showing
pretty crazy

I'm going to avoid this movie, like the plague, no matter if my fiancee wants so much to watch it.

Ok, I got it, you want for some reason to film in Mexico, but why, WHY of all things you go and INVENT A FREAKING DIA DE LOS MUERTOS parade! There are not parades on that day, is a freaking solemn day, people go to cemeteries to pay respects and that's it! They could as well just put a freaking Halloween parade and it will be just the same: only fiction.

And why does it bother me? Because now the freaking government is going ahead and replicating the damn thing. Don't give silly ideas to our government, damn it!

Would've went to see it tonight but grandma wants to see it too, and since she's battling cancer its difficult for her to go out much, so going to arrange a taxi straight to the cinema some time within the next 2 weeks

I hope we get some opinions in this thread for those that found Skyfall the weakest of the Craig Bonds. I'm going to disregard any other opinion.

I fall into that camp. Casino was a fantastic film, QOS hit highs and lows but Skyfall was...it felt like a slick, dour, very mutedly coloured, miserable movie that had nothing beyond it feeling it had been hyper stylised by the people who do adverts for Mens Magazine.

Seeing this next week as, like the best of the Bonds and Doctor Whos, feel that regardless of the actual story in question, Craig is a solid Bond.

The reason was that the Mexican government paid the producers $20 million. They also specifically requested that the opening sequence be set during a Dia de los Muertos parade. The original idea for the opening was a cage match.

Hey UK GAF, hope the movie is good..doubt it will be but whatever.
Do me a favor..cause im sure its not in any reviews that are out there. See if Spectre addresses the biggest dangling plot device from Skyfall..the NOC list containing every active agent in the field that Silva stole....you know the list that Skyfalls shitty fucking story seemed to drop/forget about once Silva activated the most complex/impossible plan to assassinate M at her hearing.

I really hope it does. As great as Skyfall is from a cinematographic perspective this really destroyed the consistency of the movie.

It was good. Enjoyed it, will probably update with more thoughts when I get home, but is it just me or did the sex/violence seem really really toned down in this compared to previous films?

Just finished and I really enjoyed it.

Not too sure on the ending but... well, that's spoilers and I need to drive home so *shrugs*

junior accouns. clearly a viral marketing by sony. the fear is in the air they're getting virals on gaf because they know gaf could make this film huge.

Ending spoilers and character spoilers.

Oberhauser as was obvious is Blofeld who doesn't die at the end. M arrests him after Bond let's him live due to running out of bullets. Bond then chooses to walk away from everything with the girl. Fade to black, Bond is back in Q's "office" and asks for one thing. Says he is "gone". He gets his DB5 back and drives away with Lea. The end.

Essentially this is the end of the story. Bond is done with the job just as Daniel Craig is done with Bond. Gonna assume new Bond, new story and new cast for the next film... Very bittersweet ending to a Bond film IMO.

Sounds like..
the happy ending version of OHMSS. Unfortunately it sounds like the girl doesnt come close to being as important as Tracy/Teresa.

Right, a few more impressions...

Pre credits sequence didn't really excite me at all.
Credits sequence nice apart from the awful song.
Like Skyfall, some really nice cinematography.
Really really enjoyed Ralph Fiennes as M. Judi Dench has played the character all my life so thought it'd be odd with someone else but his performance/character was really strong.
I've never quite felt that Daniel Craig was 'Bond' if you know what I mean, but I think I finally got into him as the character with this film. Some quite funny parts throughout the film.
As I said in the previous post, I felt the violence didn't feel real enough - you could sort of tell they weren't really hitting each other, if you know what I mean. I'm sure previous films, even the more recent ones, had a bit more grit to them.

With regards to some spoilers...

I like how they gave away that Obenhauser was Blofeld by showing the cat first.
The ending was written as a clear exit for Craig, the lyrics of the song also imply that it's the end for his Bond, but it's left ambiguous enough that he could return if he wants to do another.

Anyone who hasn't seen the film, I'd avoid the wikipedia page until you have as there are spoilers in clear view.

Would probably rank Casino Royale and Skyfall above this one, not sure about Quantum of Solace as I've only seen that once. It was enjoyable, not mind-blowing though. Definitely worth going to see though.

Minor spoilers about an actress in the film but
anybody else find it odd that there was all this fuss about Monica Belliuchi being a "older Bond girl" but she appeared for about 3 minutes in the whole film.

Reposting my spoilery question for those who've seen it :D

I wonder how, if at all, the movie connects SPECTRE to Quantum. Given Mr. White being in the movie, and some of the reviews talking about how it ties up loose ends from the other Craig films, I'm hoping they do something interesting with it.

Sounds like they are getting worse as they go along.

QoS, didn't like much when it came out, but its grown on me a lot. Compared to Skyfall, which is gorgeous, but dull

Well I enjoyed it. Not sure where I rank it among other the Craig films but I definitely liked it a lot. Title sequence was lovely too. And it was great to see
the return of the gun barrel sequence.

Ending spoilers:
I was half expecting Swan to die right at the end ala OHMSS but I guess this was written as a way to tie up loose ends and give Craig an exit. I hope he does another one as I like the setup they have at the moment and I enjoyed how M and the gang were in this one more. Would be sad to see them go too as I imagine they would with a new Bond.

just finished my craig marathon. Holy fucking shit is Skyfall insanely good. Quantum was painful to watch though. Even the opera scene wasn't as good as I remembered it.

SPECTRE MIDNIGHT PREMIER HYPE!

I think overall this will be a very divisive movie here. I kinda found it merely okay. Whereas other people I was with found it great and better than the last one. For me I would give it 3/5.

Few impressions before i go:

Hinx
was awesome for the time he was there. He was a massive guy, made to look even more huge and intimidating by the way a lot of shots were done (one in particular where he bursts through a door on a train and he fills the entire shot). However, they severely wasted I felt. He kept having the occasional smirk or grin on his face as he gave pursuit to Bond, kinda like he was enjoying the challenge.

Christoph Waltz
kinda phoned it in a bit. It was also painfully obvious who he was going to be from the minute he is introduced. So the big reveal that he is Blofield falls flat. The whole thing reminded me of the way Benedict Cumberbatch's character in Star Trek turned out to be Khan. Except, they bend over backwards to reference everything about the original version of Blofield, making everything seem a little forced. From the moment he is introduced he slowly accumulates the Blofield trademarks. For instance, he has the same jacket he wears, but it is unbuttoned until the end where it is finally done up to the top. Cat, check. Scar, check.

Also
the way they tried to retroactively tie spectre into all the previous Craig movies seemed a bit forced.

Don't get me wrong, it isn't an bit movie. Just a quite by the numbers.

Hey now!

quick spoiler question - pretty light spoils, actually:

OHMSS music - it's in there, or no?

Unfortunately not. I listened to the soundtrack on Spotify the other day and was bummed it wasn't included, but hoped it was hidden in the movie somewhere. But nada. Definitely some nods to OHMSS though, as well as other classic Bond films.
