Need some help deciding between and '05 Civic and '06 Civic.

The '06 Civic is the next-generation model, has a ton of standard features, lots of safety features, and a faster engine.

The '05 Civic, however, can be had for a $2k - $3k less than the '06 (according to a friend at a Honda dealership).

What do you guys think? '05 or '06? The car will driven 70% of the time on the highway and 30% city. The main concern is safety: if the driver gets rammed by some idiot, I want the best protection possible. The '05 has great crash test ratings (with and without side airbags) but the ratings for '06 aren't out yet. Anyone know when these will be coming?

So based on the above, would you recommend the '05 or the '06?

Thanks in advance. :)

06.

And also, you can get an 05 for A LOT more than just 2-3k less. At least 5k.

I'm of two minds... the 06 Civic looks killer IMO but it's new, so it's unproven... Honda has a great reliability record but I'm always uneasy about buying the first run of any new model.... the '05 is tested and reliable...

In the end I really don't think you can go wrong either way, if it was me... I'd buy the newest one.

06 Civics are the 05 Special editions. New shape to is design obviously, but the interior for the Nighthawk Pearl color doesnt match at all. I'm not sure I dig a tan interior in a black car. Also, the cool Magneseum color only comes in Hybrid. I was gonna get an 06 and went for the 05 special edition sedan. Talked em down to a nice price too.

hehe.. the 06 Si commercial has been playing non-stop and I am thinking about trading in my '00 Si for it. I was always unsure of the hatchbacks between 03-05, but the new coupe looks awesome, has 35 more HP than mine at about the same weight (don't know about torque though). What is the actual pricing going to be on the 06? Still around $20k?

Interestingly enough, my dad (who is getting the car) narrowed it down to an '06 and an '05 SE. Really, the only reason for thinking of getting the '06 is the additional safety features. $5k+ is quite a large sum, though.

Tough decision (since the '05s performed so well in crash tests).

What about resale value? In 5 years or so when the next-generation Civic is out, will the older-generation '05 be significantly less valuable than the newer-generation '06? I know the difference won't be $5000 but if it's, say, $2000, then I can probably justify paying the extra for the '06.

hmm.. for some reason I thought this topic was about the Si's.. my bad. go back to your regularly scheduled topic. :P

If it was just a yearly update, then I'd say go for previous model. Since it's an entirely new body/parts, '06 all the way.

2006

more horsies
more torque
better fuel efficiency
a front that doesn't look like a chipmunk/beaver (honda H are the teeth, streached back lights are the eyes, I hate it)

But for me, my 1992 Honda Accord with 130k miles. Mint condition, and I put on so few miles a year it's going to last for a long time.
