Besides the aggressive lines and over the top design the Mitsubishi Eclipse is one serious machine if you look at the numbers. The base GS has a 165 horsepower 4 cylinder but the V6 GT has 265 horses that I’m guessing will be mighty impressive. But considering the new incarnation of the eclipse has a longer wheelbase and overall length and is heavier than the one it replaces
So let's see, heavy, ugly, high powered fwd with mitsu's famed reliability (har har har). lol torque steer am i rite???

i'm just not seeing it. sadly, afaik the current eclipse is what's been keeping mitsu afloat, so someone must be buying these things.

help, i'm stuck in a mitsubishi factory!

Hm, well, er....huh.

It's not ugly, ugly. Not attractive, either. It looks like someone at Mitsubishi took a long, hard look at the 350Z and tried their best to do their own thing with that car in mind.

I've seen worse, though.

Ugh. Aggressively stupid front end styling. I'd have to see one in person but I had a Mitsu GST a few models back and I loved it (though clearly build with wet-naps), but this thing reminds me of some form of Pontiac and I don't think that's what they were going for. An unaggressively style Eclipse is just another car.

looks good to me...better then current line but will never be as good as the 2g models...good thing i have a 2g....but i'll probably buy this. wonder if a spoiler will make it look more attractive,

I actually like the look of this new Eclipse. However, longer wheelbase + increased weight + FWD + being underpowered = an unresponsive, underperforming pig with understeer. Oh, and Mitsubishi continues to gouge on their Lancer Evolution. Die Mitsu, die! Die and hand the Evo over to a competent company that might someday price the godliest of sports sedans in realistic territory. Ugh one of the best all-around cars ever conceived and it's just way too rich for my blood. I would have given my left nut for an Evo if it was priced near a WRX, but forget it. The Evo and STi are both overpriced cars. Somehow, I figured boy racers would be priced so they could actually be bought by boy racers. No...I'm not bitter. ;) PEACE.

Overpriced? Nah, the STi and Evo are still the best bang for buck sports cars on the market.. but yeah, it would be great if I could afford one.

This cars pretty clean It would be Ill if it was called the deathwatch!

Regardless I just got rid of my eclipse =(

Subways for me

If it was in silver with some nice rims tinted out it would look gangsta.

if looked at carefully its really a redesign of the 2g models. but wish they had added turbo like in the 2g...then i'd not hesistate at all...

Ugh - what a saggy ass.
Poor Mitsu. Why they never push the EVO more, I don't know..

Totally unrelated, but what's up with Subaru's new grill?
BLAH.

Agreed - it's like the designers have never heard of a certain multimillion dollar disaster called the Edsel...

Some of this throwback/nolstagia business is getting out of hand. It's like today's designers don't realize that some of those designs got retired because they're ugly as fuck.

Evo is great but expensive for young people...this is why they are letting out the eclipse line....hopefully some people can get great aftermarket parts to adjust torque/weight/ and much more...*PRAYS

:lol POS.

I recommend a tC with a supercharger as this car's replacement.

Why are the side mirrors so far back? And why is there a pillar there? The door windows are divided into 3, it just doens't look right. The 350z and RX8 both had shapes that presented engineering problems but Nissan and Mazda seemed to overcome them with their production designs. The new eclipse looks like the design team ran out of money and just gave up and slapped the pillars there along with the side mirrors...

Also being on the galant platform I am seriously concerned that the car is going to be massive.

I had a 2G eclipse...and I still think it's the best looking and performing "cheap" car that your typical highschool/college kid could own and have fun with....

Are there any cars out there price/performance/looks that are like the 2g eclipse was?

The new Eclispe reminds me a lot of the discontinued Mercury Cougar. It's not ugly by any means, I actually think it looks okay, but nothing special.

I have yet to see my car on the road:

Hopefully there isn't some horrible defect that the rest of the general population knows about. :)

Well, they screwed up the engine on this thing and eliminated the cool exhaust ports and no all wheel drive.

:crosses new Eclipse off list:

Must be the GAF crowd or something......everyone else i've shown the new eclipse loves it. Now it isn't gonna break and 1/4 mile times but it is gonna draw some attention to it.

I haven't seen one either, but the Mirage/Lancer line has been the sole bright spot in Mitsubishi's lineup IMO, and the only cars they build that are worth buying. Not in that horrendous yellow, though...

I think it looks nice, but those side mirrors need to be moved.

No worries, mine's a nice silver.

Good man. Is it a Ralliart? Stick-shift?

Definitely Ralliart, but alas, no stick. Living in NYC, it isn't practical, plus my wife doesn't know how to drive manual. It's a great little car--good pickup, great turn radius, great on bumps and like I said, no one has one.

Yeah, I was forced to get an automatic in my car too. My dad can drive a stick - in fact he commutes in an RX-8, but Mom hasn't driven a stick in 30 years. She was never able to drive my Celica even once in the 5 years I had it. So I'm driving a slushbox.. it's not as terrible as it used to be, but of course I would prefer a 5-speed.

this car had a better concept design early on when it was a hybrid design. OH WELL...with mitsu lacking in sales its obvious as to why they took it out to be cost effective. with a lot riding on this and the raider i hope it will be cheap.... :D
