Hell must be frostbitten and winged hogs must have been spotted overhead. On Jan. 4, 2010, Bret Hart returns to WWE.

For years, the world presumed that the day would never come for the almost mythic “Hit Man” to once again step foot on the WWE turf of Vincent Kennedy McMahon. Hell would freeze over and pigs would fly – requisite impossibilities – before the true pink and black would ever again be seen on WWE programming.

As unperceivable as it may be, the new decade kicks off with perhaps the biggest announcement in WWE history: Bret is back.

Hart’s legacy
The five-time WWE Champion and two-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion began to establish his electric pink legacy throughout the 1980s, flourishing with his greatest successes in the 1990s as he pioneered a “new generation” in World Wrestling Entertainment.

Boasting a lineage as rich as his ring achievements, the Hit Man is perhaps the most recognizable member of the legendary Hart Family, but more so, he is arguably the most outstanding product of Stu Hart’s infamously venerated Dungeon.

A “graduate” of his father’s basement training ground in the Harts' home, Bret ultimately debuted in WWE in 1984. Thereafter, in addition to his World Title feats, The Excellence of Execution captured the World Tag Team and Intercontinental Championships (on two occasions each), and proudly held the United States Championship in WCW three times. He was the first Superstar to capture the radiant King of the Ring crown on pay-per-view. He’s even won the 30-man Royal Rumble Match.

Essentially, there is nothing the Hit Man has not done inside the squared circle.

Pink and blackest night
The infamous Montreal Screwjob. A well documented tale of deception and betrayal that permanently impacted all of sports-entertainment, but moreover, the career of the greatest technical wrestler of our time.

The 1997 Survivor Series was the WCW-bound Hit Man’s final night as a WWE competitor as defending WWE Champion Hart clashed with his ultimate rival, Shawn Michaels, in D-Generation X’s infancy. To insure that the Hit Man would not be able to leave WWE with the coveted title, Mr. McMahon conspired with several key officials to guarantee Hart’s defeat in Montreal.

Drawing Hart's fellow Canadian countrymen in attendance to their feet, Michaels applied his own version of The Excellence of Execution's signature hold, the Sharpshooter. Leaving mouths agape, the referee immediately signaled for the ring bell as McMahon wildly commanded the timekeeper to follow suit. In one shocking instant, the match and WWE Title were awarded to HBK, while a disoriented then irate Hart watched the gold prize exit the arena over the shoulder of his greatest enemy. (PHOTOS | WATCH)

The WWE Chairman would endure Hart’s fist-clenched wrath, but the blow would be returned the next night on Raw as McMahon callously summarized the controversy with a simple explanation: “Bret screwed Bret.”

The most foul end to any relationship, this was the tainted culmination to The Excellence of Execution’s unrivaled legacy within WWE. (READ MORE | WHAT IF...)

Bret’s career, however, proved more prolific than its most notable blemish acquired on that November night much colder than any other in Montreal, Quebec.

Honoring excellence
Realizing triumphs very few Superstars have attained in their careers, there was no surprise when the Hit Man was called to the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006.

The true shock, rather, was Hart’s willingness to attend the induction ceremony since Hart vowed to never again walk the WWE Chairman’s territory as long as he breathed. For his countless fans, so many members of the WWE Universe, Hart participated in the Hall of Fame event that celebrated his heavily decorated and respected career.

The best return there ever will be
This prestigious night was the last time Bret Hart appeared live for any WWE function of any kind. But as announced by the Chairman, that changes when Hart returns live to Monday Night Raw as arguably the most distinguished special guest host to date.

It will likely be an emotional night for The Excellence of Execution, his unanticipated homecoming to a place he never thought he’d ever revisit. It’s a WWE fan’s dream come true, limited to just two hours on USA Network. But so much has changed in WWE since 1997, raising countless questions.

What will it be like when the Hit Man walks into a WWE locker room after more than a decade? What kind of reception awaits him? How will the WWE Hall of Famer use his authority? Will he be overwrought by his personal feelings? Might he be vengeful? Or is this his means for closure?

Perhaps more on the minds of the WWE Universe is the almost guaranteed encounter between the WWE Chairman and the Hit Man. What might happen between these two men? And what of a potential meeting between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels?

Don’t miss this monumental edition of Monday Night Raw kicking off a new decade in WWE, and witness the long-awaited return of “the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be,” live on USA Network at 9/8 CT.

HULKAMANIA IS COMING BACK TO MONDAY NIGHT ON “TNA iMPACT!” LIVE JANUARY 4 ON SPIKE TV

Hulk Hogan’s First Live Appearance On Spike TV’s “TNA iMPACT” Will Be In A Special 3-Hour Live Episode Monday, January 4 At 8:00 PM ET/PT

The biggest name in professional wrestling history, Hulk Hogan, will make his first live appearance on Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling’s “TNA iMPACT!” in a live 3-hour special on Spike TV Monday, January 4, 2010 at 8:00PM ET/PT. Hogan and TNA President Dixie Carter attended “The Ultimate Fighter Heavyweights” Finale in Las Vegas where Hogan made the announcement in an interview with Joe Rogan.

“TNA iMPACT!” will be going against “WWE Monday Raw” on USA Network, the first time two wrestling companies have broadcast live head-to-head since the “Monday Night Wars” in the late 1990’s between WWE and WCW. This “iMPACT!” special will broadcast live from the TNA iMPACT! Zone at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fl.

Hogan’s first appearance inside the six-sided ring of TNA Wrestling will follow weeks of speculation after Hogan and Carter announced their partnership on October 27 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Hogan has hinted in various media interviews that he’ll have multiple surprises in store for TNA Wrestling fans.

“I knew when I signed with TNA, that it would be important to make a statement with the first episode. Going head-to-head on January 4th, makes the statement loud and clear: Game on!” Hogan said.

“TNA is kicking off 2010 in the biggest way possible with the biggest name in the history of our sport. Hulk Hogan is a pop culture icon, and his arrival will change not only TNA, but the entire professional wrestling landscape. We’re firing that first shot,” Carter said.

Joining Hogan for the three-hour live “iMPACT!” will be TNA World Heavyweight Champion “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles, Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle, Mick Foley, Kevin Nash, “The Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe, “The Boss” Bobby Lashley and “The Blueprint” Matt Morgan.

“TNA iMPACT!” will resume its normal timeslot on Thursday, January 7th at 9:00 PM ET/PT with an encore viewing of the live “iMPACT!” special.

Biggest month for wrestling in a long long time.
Yawnfest 2010. It's going to take more than bringing out the same old shit that wasn't drawing 10 years ago.

Bret's a bigger deal than Hogan, but I don't think most people realize how old and fucked up he is now.

Is this gonna be stunt number 1,000,007 with Bret Hart "returning" or is he really gonna be wrestling now? I think I might actually humble myself enough to watch an episode of wrasslin' for that.

Edit: Guest host? Oh. Nvm.

I doubt Bret is going to wrestle. He's way too old and hasn't wrestled in a long time.

My hope for this year in wrestling is Neo...an embrace of the new. HHH, Hulk Hogan, etc need to simply help elevate new talent. And hopefully, the WWE can find the new Hulk, Rock or Stone Cold. They have good talent but Cena is a forced ambassador not naturally electric.

I haven't watched wrestling for like 7 years, but I may tune in for Bret. He looks awful in that picture though, geez.

is this supposed to get the people who grew up to tune back in or something? Ratings must be bad since the WWF/WCW stuff. I quit watching wrestling like back before high school, but they keep pushing this Hogan stuff during the UFC shows, like it's supposed to be a big deal.

Anyone that expects Hart to Wrestle (or even take a bump) is a bit crazy. However, he is one of the few wrestler today I am excited to see in a ring cutting a promo for 10 or so minutes.

On the other hand, if Hogan spends more than 5 minutes in a TNA ring yapping about something, brother... then I am changing the channel.

1/4 Wrasslin' thread of Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, the new Monday Night Wars & EVOLVE

Fix'd.

EVOLVE Wrestling is a new promotion from bookers Gabe Sapolsky (ROH, Dragon Gate USA), Sal Hamoui (FIP) & international wrestling star Davey Richards;

http://www.evolvewrestling.com/

EVOLVE 1 takes place on the 16th of January at the Rahway Rec Center in New Jersey and features some of the best up & coming indy and international wrestling talent;

The Main Event - Official Singles Division Match
Davey Richards vs. Kota Ibushi

Official Tag Team Division Six Man Match
Mike Quackenbush, Frightmare & Hallowicked vs. Gran Akuma, Icarus & Brodie Lee

Official Singles Division Match
TJP vs. Munenori Sawa

Qualifying Match
Chuck Taylor vs. Cheech

Also signed to compete:

Official Singles Division Wrestlers:

-Allen, Brad
-Cannon, Arik
-Dickinson, Chris
-Doane, Ken
-Fish, Bobby
-Gargano, Johnny
-Jacobs, Jimmy
-O'Reilly, Kyle
-Ricochet
-Young, Silas

Official Tag Team Division Wrestlers:
-Aeroform of Louis Lyndon & Flip Kendrick
-Dark City Fight Club of Kory Chavis & Jon Davis

Couldn't give a shit what sports entertainment crap Vince & Hogan have in store for us, but I am looking forward to another great year for indy wrestling (seriousley, last year was awesome - between ROH, PWG, CHIKARA, AAW & DGUSA the indies have pissed all over 99% of what either of the big brands had to offer) and just going by the talent behind EVOLVE and the depth of their roster the promotion is sure to be a winner and it'll be great to watch it evolve from the ground up.

Hart's gonna stick around through Wrestlemania. Rumor mill sez that he's gonna have a match with McMahon at Mania.

Lol, find a new rock and stone cold? If you thought it was that easy don't you think they would have found them by now? It won't happen for a looooong time, if ever.

Didn't The Rock and Stone Cold hit their stride when they were allowed to come up with their own character...which the WWE Creative don't want now?

Yes. Anyone hoping to find anything good happening on WWE are wasting their time.

I'll catch Bret on YouTube mumbling his old ass through some promos, but this is one of those things that should have been left alone. The only person that could ever come back and still mean anything and be a ridiculous draw is the Rock.

Yeah. Stone Cold was the Ringmaster (ugh). And it all changed with the Austin 3:16. The fued with Hart cemented the character.

Rocky didn't become a sensation until he joined the Nation of Domination. No offense to Kama/Godfather, Mark Henry, Farouq or D.Lo but he was the highlight of their segments. The DX and Nation (who could forget HHH as the crock) fued was what cemented him.

And finding these icons is like getting lightning in a bottle. The "New Generation" after Hulk left was lacking that persona. And After Rock/Austin left, nothing has materialized (no offense to John Cena).

And Santino has potential (ring ability/mic skills) but he's like a joke character (like Dan in SF).

I love the idea of a Monday Night Wars but how can TNA even compete? Everytime I watch an event the wrestling is decent, but the storylines are bad and apart from the front row as seen on TV the crowd are absolutely dead..

You might want to add the cards announced so far to the OP:

Raw: DX v.s. Jerishow for Tag Belts, Orton v.s. Kofi
Impact: ODB v.s. Tara for Knockouts title, Sarita/Taylor v.s. Kong/Hamada for Knockouts Tag titles

It's also worth mentioning that there's going to be lots of surprises/returns/reunions on Impact on top of Hogan debuting, with some pretty big names.

So is this the monthly thread or only for mega Monday?

Its only for mega Monday.

And should have dressed up the title, DX, Kevin Nash, Sting, Eric Bischoff, its like the time that land can't forget.

Hart also seems like he would be more than happy to put over younger talent than Hogan. I am sure Hogan will put over some of the younger TNA guys, he has to or he will be tossed out (hopefully, beofre he bring everything crashing down), but he will sure as hell not do anything detrimental to his image.

I am not that interested in Hogan himself, but I am very interested in the changes he is going to make to TNA and the other people that will be coming in on Monday. TNA will be the much more interesting show Monday in my opinion. WWE is just so boring and bland.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

Fun Fact: When Austin was making the transition from his "Ringmaster" character, WWF creative was trying to come up with a new name for him. The name offered by WWF creative? Chilly McFreeze. Needless to say, he shot it down.

Hmmm... I might just DVR them for nostalgia's sake. Haven't really watched any wrestling in years, and I'm certainly not expecting much.

So, not only is Bret coming back, but Hogan too? God damn.

I'm probably gonna tune in for the first time since the good old days (aka the Rock and friends).

Bret finally sold his soul back to the WWE! :(

You like me, you really really like me!
First time I'll watching in a while.

Is Eric Bischoff booking for TNA now? Or is he just strictly playing a character?

If there's one man that can turn around the shitfest that TNA is, it's Bischoff for sure.

Nobody really knows, but Bischoff seems to be fairly heavily involved in the behind-the-scenes stuff at this point. Considering he's been meeting with Vince Russo in Nashville, that probably points to him being involved creatively as well.

Hogan's going to be the head guy booking.

Damn dude thats a stacked card cant wait to see Go, and the main event. I think it starts 3 am EST but if I can stay up for the world cup I can most definitely stay up for this. i'm taking 1/4 off work and will totally devote the day to wrestling. I'm marking out so hard this week.

Man, remember how amazing/cool wrestling was in the early/mid 90's? It just fit in society so well, with the pink clothes and good guys vs bad guys. I actually cried when Bret lost that match. Good ol days.

unless they go back to targeting the older audience, PG won't cut it anymore for those that haven't tuned in for a long time.
