10 Films To See In February (what are you watching?)

I must be the only person that feels this way but I'm so sick of Paul Rudd, there seems to be a new damn Paul Rudd comedy around every corner!

AlternativeUlster

Absolutely pathetic part deux
Michael is one of the finest crafted films that I saw in 2011 and is not a horror film but a very bleak black comedy. I will probably see everything on this list if they either head to the Alamo or Violet Crown.

I don't mind Rudd-overload but I didn't really find Aniston to be funny in HB, just awkward.

Came off as trying too hard.

Bless her for trying, though.

I read Woman in Black at an old job a few years back. It was looking for financing and I recommended it as a viable project... It wasn't great but those above chose to get into other projects that mostly turned into shit.

Already saw Arrietty. Nothing else on the list interest me, except maybe Wanderlust (though as far as Paul Rudd comedies go, I'm way more interested in This is Forty).

Will catch The Turin Horse and Michael eventually.

Didn't realize Snowtown was based on a true story. Just looked it up - some fucked up shit. I don't know if I can stomach that.
It's not too bad. A few tough scenes, but it's not as brutal as you're imagining.

Gary Rydstrom was involed in The Secret World of Arrietty?

Anyway, I'll probably be seeing Arriety & Phantom Menace 3D.

you are a bad person.
Yup. I really enjoy Rudd's style of comedy. Though not all of his movies are great.

I guess I'll just be watching The Secret World of Arrietty this month. It's a Ghibli film, need to check it out,

The only movie in the OP that I've heard of is Safe House and I plan to see it, as well as Act of Valor.

Stuff I'll try to see: Woman in Black, Undefeated, Wanderlust, Chronicle, Kill List, Snowtown. Probably Return when it goes on VOD because of Cardellini.

See The Innkeepers, people. If you're at all a fan of thrills. It's a great throwback ghost story. Anybody who thinks it's shit likely went in looking for cheap "jumps" and violence with no impact.
The Innkeepers was okay until the ending revealed that West had no idea where he was going with any of it.
How did you even come to this conclusion at all?
The film is about people who are stuck. The have zero momentum, no ambition, no real purpose. They're lost and starting to realize that they're lost. All the ending does is leave it up to the viewer to decide whether the ghost was real and symbolic of Claire's aimlessness or solely manifestations of her inner crisis about being stuck. The ending literally does nothing to change the entire 100 minutes of film before it. Either way you have a story of a lack of motivation destroying a person's life.

Already saw Arrietty. Def better than Howl and Poyo combined. Highly recommended.

Out of that list the only other film I'm interested is Woman in Black.

Just found out these two films were getting a limited Feb. release. They would have been very, very high on the list. Click the posters for newly released trailers.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Woman in Black after seeing it in the theatre last year. Suprisingly, it was very chilling despite it being a very minimal set on stage. The atmosphere was convincingly eerie... a few girls in the front actually screamed at one point (perhaps a bit of an over-reaction!).

While the minimalism of the stage settings worked very well in the theatre I am very interested in seeing how well it carries over to the big screen.

Edit: saw Snowtown while it was screening here (UK) and found it quite uncomfortable.

Criticized heavily? It has mostly positive reviews.

From what I have watched from a review show on BBC last week. It doesn't sound anything apealing. A bunch of stereotypical scares and plot that doesn't make sense
Why don't the childeren leave the whole place

Chronicle was great, definitely a movie worth seeing in theaters. I think it would lose its magic in DVD form, much like cloverfield.

I will also be watching This Means War, for a Valentine's release, I really couldn't hope for more. Was able to convince the girlfriend to see this rather than The Vow

The order of this list is all wrong. This should be the order:

1. The Turin House - Best film of 2011
2. Snowtown
3. Chico & Rita
4. This is Not a Film
5. Michael
6. The Secret World of Arrietty
7. The Forgiveness of Blood

DVD rental only: Bullhead, Kill List

Meanwhile, I'll off to the Berlin Film Festival in a few days. Already saw some good films from there.
