$1000 console? I'm out. official boycott thread

Geometric-Crusher

"Nintendo games are like indies, and worth at most $19" 🤡
I'm out guys With rumors that the new Xbox might cost $1000 or more, I'm out. I work and pay for fun, but I can't tolerate electronics at that price.

I hope any company that wants to challenge AMD's console monopoly today, and make a console for up to $499 and $599 (I only compared them for boycott purposes), will succeed.

SEGA, where are you?
If anyone from the marketing or creative department reads this message, know that I'm not alone; I'm out of the $1000 console market.

Participate, let's make a boycott list, let's make a difference.

You think Sega is gonna fabricate their own SoC? The 2 options are AMD and Nvidia. You are already getting the cheaper option.

Let me Post in this thread with my 1400 euro iphone vujjjjjhvhjhvhvhjhvvjjvjhjjvjhhhhjhhhhhjjhhjhhhhhhhjjjjhhjjjjhhhhhhvjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj

Im not even sure of 1000 Euro under current market conditions is ahm that bad. I mean, i have a PC and a new GPU is in a range a new gen will be not that much cheaper alone.

If it's a $1000 pre built PC with free multiplayer and access to Steam, then it would technically still be "cheaper" than a $600 console in the long run.
Between saving $80 a year on the multiplayer and anwwhere from $10-30 on every game (thanks key sites and regional pricing!) that's going to save you way more than $400 during the 5-7 years you'll use the device.

Thread is about to be 20 pages and at least half of the posts will be from people who get a new thousand dollar cell phone every two years.
Well, my phone is a powerful computer that I use every day for many, many tasks so I think that's a pretty fair price. I certainly don't use my console 24/7.

The market will decide the fate of these consoles. I don't understand the mindset of wanting to recruit others for some sort of boycott, as if that is going to change anyone's mind about a potential purchase. Some people will be ok with the value proposition; many more will not be. If you already plan from abstaining from such a purchase, what's the difference?

Edit: Wait... is this an April Fools thing?

Welp this gen i managed to secure 3 PS5 and 1 Series X all on launch- which were days a part.
At $1000 my kids better start saving- cause only dad will have one. LOL

XBOX? Im done with them in any capacity- why would i bother when i can get their stuff on PC or future Playstation?

Yeah, the next xbox "console" is more of a fully fledged out PC. No way it gets much cheaper than 1000 bucks without ultra heavy subsidization. Just look around whats going on.

I'd say wait and see what's confirmed when they're launching before actively boycotting. Price could be above that, or it could be below. But it's silly to boycott when no official information is out IMO.

The real problem with $1,000 consoles is that MILFs are not gonna buy them for their kids. Kids growing up now are gonna be nostalgic for Roblox and Five Nights at Freddies. When they age into the 18-35 demographic they are not gonna give a shit about traditional games and support the industry.

I think PCs are different because they do more than just play games, but yeah, in the console space I really do think that cheaper handhelds are gonna be huge again this next gen, and I'm really happy about that.

I'm an adult, I pay for health insurance and I have a life, I can't afford to pay $1000 plus $80 per game, you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to live replaying my old consoles and screw it.
Microsoft and Sony are crazy; they're going to drive more than half of consumers away from consoles and turn the gaming world into an elitist environment. During the 1980s oil crisis in Japan, NEC made the best plastic possible and put it in the PC-Engine. Crises exist, but I'm not obligated to pay for expensive products. They need to be creative or let other companies do things right. I'd ditch Sony and Microsoft today if any company makes something next-gen at a fair price.

Gotta calibrate those expectations man. You can go old school for sure and have more fun, but "next gen" if we're talking fair price will 100% mean $700 and up. In 2028 we can't have 1980's prices, be reasonable.

Perhaps at some point there's such a thing as good enough and no need for any "next gen", don't think we're there yet, but we will be soon.

$1000 isn't really that much for a device that provides entertainment for years and years, You'd have to be pretty damn poor to feel otherwise, I dare say.
That's how I see it.

If I average my time and get a rough estimate. Even COMBINING the cost of my PS5 regular and PS5 Pro, I've gotten at least 4.6 hours of entertainment for each dollar spent on them. And there will be thousands of hours still.
