I've never shot a gun but I imagine just being able to drive a car is magnitudes more difficult.

With a car you turn the key, put it into drive, push down the pedal, and turn the wheel. With an AR you load the correct ammunition into the magazine, slot it into the magazine well, pull back the charging handle, make sure the safety is off, now you're ready to shoot. Pretty comparable levels of complexity I'd say.

I'm not sure how "it should be harder to get guns" is still a debated subject in this country. The guy who shot up the supermarket a couple weeks ago wrote in his journal that he was surprised how easy it was to get a gun despite his run ins with the law and mental health professionals. And that was in New York, where gun control is at least attempted.

The zealots have convinced themselves that any effort to stop these psychopath mass killers is just the first step toward banning guns so they won't be able to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. It's ridiculous.

Or people say "well they'd just find another way if it wasn't a gun". Have you seen these kids? They look like they can barely get themselves dressed and showered. They're not criminal masterminds, and stopping them isn't going to take the greatest minds society has to offer. The problem isn't that complicated.

As a society we can't allow this. There has to be a better way that both parties can agree on, even if it's not the perfect solution to either side. It was only a matter of time before Sandy Hook part 2. And as long as we do nothing it's only a matter of time until the next one.

I work at an elementary school and no one even mentioned this yesterday. That's where we are in this country with this shit.

I was a junior in high school when columbine happened and nothing has changed. Bumper stocks are banned... I'll sure there's been other things but that's the only thing I can think of.

Boggles the mind where we live in an age when someone can buy a gun before a beer. Until the nation has solidarity amongst its people, i don't see anything significant happening.

It's a cultural thing in the USA though. It's not just about guns being easy to access, it's about a good portion of the country being obsessed with and worshiping them for some reason. Obviously making guns harder to access will help, not saying it won't. But most other countries lack the second variable.

The form you fill out when you buy a gun is a joke, as without any major felonies or other red flags on a person, you are passing that quick call the gun store makes. It's also a form that relies heavily on the honor system.

My elderly father who had dementia, could walk into a gun store and fill out that form and walk out the same day with a weapon even in his messed up state cause there is nothing to stop it. Again the little show they do when you buy one is barely any form of background check or verified info. It's basically "does this guy have any outstanding warrants, felonies, etc we should know about?"

I see women kill their own kids all the time. read a couple of fucked up stories just this month, but i wonder why girls dont go out and do this. studies have shown that girls are more bullied than boys. especially on social media.

Most infanticides and killing your own kids are committed on boys.

You can't just jump in a car and drive it, especially manual and not crash.

You can pick up a gun and shoot someone relatively easy with a degree of accuracy.

This is what bothers me most about the "gun debate". People go on and on about how outraged they are, how heartbroken, etc etc every time a "mass shooting event" happens. The same people don't give 2 shits about the dozens and dozens of people killed every weekend in Chicago alone.

There is outrage fatigue. The gun control debate is decades old. After you see the Nth school shot up, it's hard to give a shit anymore. Nothing is going to be done about it. I'm legit numb to this. 19 kids died? Ok...so what? If nothing is done about the problem, then there'll be more than that killed total in just this year alone. That's even when you consider that half the remaining time this year will be summer break, but this is literally routine now. Anyone continuing to be outraged at this point might just be new to the situation, because I'm finding it hard to care anymore. My opinion hasn't changed, just the number of fucks I have to give. I'm all out of 'em.

No doubt that's an issue for some.

The past few years as all of us at work were WFH (now on hybrid style back to office), we'd have team meetings online and even hire specialists to take us through issues and how to solve them.

You'd think the biggest hassle is doing online conference calls where everyone out of nowhere had to learn to use MS Teams asap (some people are bad with tech), or just boredom not interacting with people face to face.

Turns out, half the people complaining about being at home working, kids are around interrupting, couped up at home, stressed out about whether it's ok to work off hours instead of 9-5 or if their spouse or kids accidentally get on camera in the background etc..... But oddly, when the execs say they are looking into having back to work policies, like 90% of people would still rather WFH than come to the office.
