1st Revolution pic

THIS IS FUCKING STUPID! THEY'RE NOT EVEN TRYING ANYMORE!

AND PARENTS DON'T WANT THEIR KIDS USING A BOX CONNECTED TO THEIR CREDIT CARD!

AAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Btw, is the downloadability the key feature? Wouldn't Kent have mentioned magical gyroscopic controllers or holograms?

From the article it seems like nintendo is going the profit on each individual system route. I guess they're content with making a profit and steadily losing marketshare. Or maybe they think they can win back gamers with nastalgia. If the revolution is really downloading old Nintendo games this board will implode :)

Then again we are going by what PERRIN KAPLAIN said...

Exactly, but when Perrin Kaplan starts giving juicy quotes rather than PR buzz, something is up... and it may not be good.

2-3x more powerful than GamCube? lol wtf...

I bet Iwata goes on and on tommorrow about how it won't matter as graphics have reached there peak!

exactly.

nintendo will finally leave the minds of the rest of the gaming world, as they ejaculate over ps3.

with 2-3x the power, revolution will be seen as ass by the casuals!

is that real? Looks so strange. No controller's going in. Why did Cassamina leak this?

It looks so much like that big black granite slab from a space oddyssey 2001 (except for the white base)

That's funny considering the Xbox 360 incorporates the face design of HAL 9000.

Microsoft --> HAL 9000 (concave)
Nintendo --> TMA-1 (flat)
Sony --> Discovery spaceship (convex)! :lol :lol

Nintendo is just being being modest.
Also yeah, I'd say that the Revolution being 2-3x gamecube is a combination of modesty and realism, whereas Sony plays the overblown hype game and bases its approximations on non-game tech demos

Revolution will offer broadband access to a free Internet-based player matching service, similar to Xbox Live, that also will have downloadable versions of nearly every Nintendo game — from arcade classic Donkey Kong through current titles such as Mario Sunshine. (Nintendo hasn't decided whether downloading will be free.)

"You did it. You crazy son of a bitch you did it. "

This was posted on GAF in the past, but no one believed it and people were accused of trolling when they said that's what Revolution would be.

I am already suckered into buying all 3 anyways, because that is who I am.

However, please make the price right on the downloads. If it is iTunes simple and iTunes cheap, can you imagine how cool it will be to have friends come over and say...

"remember when we were little and played super contra" and in 30 seconds you are playing super contra again.

Killer idea.

That being said, I want them to wow me with more than just the past.

Nintendo can't lowball these numbers. Modesty BULLSHIT. They have to get out there tomorrow and say "N5 is 25x (etc.) more powerful than GC".

UGH, I can't believe how disappointed I am!!

gah, why did they have to release this hardware along side that comment. "heres a hot console!" *moves console to reveal fist, smacks in nose*

They need to learn to blatantly lie about systems power like microsoft does.....

however, 3x a game like RE4 would be nice. I'll reserve judgment till I see a game, hopefully something comes close to the graphical level of WOW that killzone demo had.

They need to learn that they aren't going to sway the mass market, or even the geeks, by trying to be "real" about the numbers.

Wow! Manabyte posting about Nintendo in a non-negative manner?

NINTENDO FOR THE WIN!!

If Gamecube BC is having me buy the games all over again then Nintendo can go screw themselves. AND I DON'T LIKE WIRELESS CONTROLLERS. If there isn't plugs/ports/whatever for GC controllers & mem cards then count me out.

I called this a while ago!!

We haven't seen any Revolution games, and most of what we've seen of 360 and PS3 is not running on proper hardware, yet here everyone is saying "OMG Nintendo is doomed". I'm not surprised, but come on Gaffers... you're one of the smartest forums around, what's with all this stupidity late at night?

actually, if you can download their entire catalogue, that is simply amazing. The price better be frikin right though. as in FREE for snes and shit. Either that or do like dollar downloads, crazy crap like that. Think about it nintendo. if you do dollar downloads, like itunes, you just made 40 bucks off me that you would otherwise never get.

E3 does strange things to people.

Kaplan could easily just mean that the system will have graphics 2-3x better, not equating it to 2-3x more powerful.

Remember diminishing returns and all that.

Or they can sell "album" packs. Like the entire Super Mario series for $50, all the Zeldas for $50 and they can time these "album" packs to be promoted right around the release of the latest game in the series.

this download thing could pull in fans of retro gaming in a big way, and if the third party's get on board (which i'm sure they will if nintendo lets them charge a small fee).. the revolution will ship with a library of thousands of games. thats a pretty big deal... i don't know if it's enough, but it is a big deal.

the only thing i'm sure about next gen is that i'll be buying the nintendo system no matter what. i have to have mario, metroid and zelda, so they could release a really shitty console and i would still buy it.

Yup. I hope the other third parties jump on this bandwagon so I can get rid of GCN Megaman :P

If you can download GC games there is no need for BC. Lower cost indeed.

Well, instead of buying a used copy from a store that may or may not work, you can get a downloadable copy instead. But if you already have the physical disc, that'll work too.

Win/win.

Well, obviously whichever company the drive comes from has found a way around the issue.

It's hard to tell, but it looks like there's a secondary slot under the main one, much smaller. Maybe that's for GCN games?

What if they let you fill up media cards with what ever you want, for free. But if you filled it up you had to buy and extra one from them (sort of like the napster go idea, but without a monthly fee)

So do you think that's all there is to Revolution? Since you're so good at prognosticating the future, let's see you get this one right.

Eh, my money's on that door hiding various accessory inputs/memory card slots.

2-3x more powerful than GamCube
Hm.............
Nintendo signed contacts with IBM and ATI to develop a next gen console
and that is only 2-3x more powerful ??? definitely not make sense to me

There would be hope for that interpretation, if Perrin hadn't compared the other consoles as having "turbo power" to Revolution.

I don't know if there's something else big about it, but remember the things said about the "revolutionary" feature? They said it's something that has been done but not with games in such a way. A Nintendo iTunes like service would be pretty unique.

that actually looks good. i for one am quite surprised. though Nitnendo would be quirky/niche, as usual (and i mean that in a bad way)

Revolution is my favorite looking console out of the three.
