Buena Vista Home Entertainment has officially announced the 10th Anniversary release of Gargoyles which will be arriving in shops this December. This two-disc package will include the first season of the show, along with an audio commentary from the filmmakers on the pilot episode, an original network affiliate pitch with a creator introduction and a Gathering of the Gargoyles behind-the-scenes featurette. I'm afraid that Buena Vista has yet to release the official artwork, but we'll bring you that very shortly.

Kick ass.

Gargoyles was one of, if not THE, best American-made cartoons.

It had vastly complex and ongoing stories too.

Judging from the number of poor Gargoyles spinoff characters I see on Deviantart every day, this set will be guaranteed gold

10th anniversary?!

Jesus christ, it's been a decade since Gargoyles came on the air? People need to stop finding ways to make me feel old, I'm hardly 21.

the show was good till it moved to like abc and the gargoyle leader was all hot for the female and her for him and im like WTF?!

Yeah, it also got new artists during that phase too. (Bad ones). And they changed the extremely cool "1000 years ago, superstition and the sword ruled.." opening to some gay techno shit.

They also flipped the story around so that the Gargoyles were being hunted by this 'Hunter' organization like they were Xmen or some shit. That and the whole love-fest thing they tried to push between Elisa and Goliath like you mentioned, which didn't work out at all once they hit the final episode.

Yeah it got WEIRD when they started going into the whole immortality bit with Desdemona and Macbeth. As a kid, I never really did pay enough attention to be able to understand exactly what was going on.

Oh well, I won't be buying it. It was a good show, but I'd rather keep the nostalgia than watch it again and have it disappoint.

Out of curiosity, will it be uncut, mainly as the video that was released that had the first episodes had some parts cut out of it, stuff that I didn't catch until I saw the broadcast versions.

Rock On. Loved this show as a kid. I believe amazon has a preorder for like $9 off the MSRP. I wish they could guarantee they will release the entire series though. Like Mad About You. They came out with season 1 and 2 and stopped because of poor sales. Hell if I am going to buy 1 and 2 when I can't get the rest of the series.

I always thought that storyline was so cool because it intertwined with the others. So you didn't really know about the immortality thing and the 3 weird sisters until later on when they revealed what was going on in the background of all the other major plots. Pretty ingenious writing IIRC.

I complerely forgot about Gargoyles! Now that I think about it, it was one of my favorite shows as a kid. Think I'll pick up the DVD.

I wonder how it has aged.

Did the series end properly? Or was it just dropped without a conclusion? I didn't catch many of the later episodes.

Its been a long time since i last saw it, but I believe the series last episode had the Gargoyles accepted by the city. It was just after them being hunted by those three hunters.

Yeah. What happened was the Hunters were using a train that had innocent civilians on it to trap the Gargoyles into getting on the train and then crashing it where the tracks ended over a large canyon (Per usual in cartoon land).

In the end the Gargoyles saved the day by stopping the train and saving the innocent lives. Everyone was a witness to what they had done, so they were finally accepted by the people of the city or something. blah blah. Lame ass ending for the lamest season of the series. Unfortunately the series went out on that awful note.

Me too. The VHS tapes can't last forever. I wish Disney would start releasing all or most of their TV series on DVD. Hopefully Gargoyles is a step in this direction.

this is by far one of the best written shows ive ever seen, at least the early stuff. it was all so intriguing...going into the past and how everything came to be. had a real cool opening, voice acting, concept, and storyline for a while.

If Patrick Stewart and Levar Burton had done any voice work in the series it would have been the entire cast. It was more than half ;)

This was the best damn part of the series. Everything fell into place with this story arc.

One of the creators for the series has a really great site that explains a lot if you didn't understand. http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/index.php
Weisman also did the Roughneck Chronicles which was pretty damn awesome as well.

The later seasons sucked hard but the first season or two were fabulous. Yeah, if Patrick Stewart and Levar Burton did some voice-acting it would've been the entire cast of ST:TNG. I also found that sort of funny.

I agree we need Duck Tales on DVD IMMMEDIATELY. Such an awesome show all the way through with only a handful of lame episodes.

I always wondered why so many star trek people were on the show. No DS9 crew though.

The story was so well put together (first 2 seasons), they don't make anything like that anymore.

That last season was terrible though, I kept wondering why they just didn't pack up and move to Avalon. Stupid need for acceptance.

I'm glad to see the love for Ducktales...I am most pleased :D

Really though, great cartoon, great voice acting, characters, storylines(Especially the one about the Golden Sun, and Time is Money), and especially great music...damn Toon Disney for taking it out of the 11:30am slot like one week after I finally got digital cable. A pox on them all!

this show was so great and i was lucky enough to catch a torrent of the whole series months ago and the show still holds up to this day.

It saddens me how badly disney has negleted this great franchise and didnt even try to produce a feature version.

so much wasted potential :(

Another interesting thing about Gargoyles VA; John-Rhys Davis was the voice of MacBeth.

Now that I know that I can't help but picture MacBeth yelling "You Blistering Idiot!" despite his accent not being british. :p
