1up: In depth with CoD2 and Condemned video

I just played CoD, and while good overall, it is hardly amazing.

No AF filtering, at all. In fact, games with no AF look better on my laptop with a GF4. The game does looks good overall, better than the PC version, but not as much of a leap as I saw in the screens they were showing. It was smooth though, I will give them that.

I thought the dev said they were using AA.

graphically COD2 wasn't amazing but it was REALLY fun. I haven't played the original so it was a new experience for me. It made me realize that graphics don't matter as long as they're good enough not to pull you out of the gaming experience.

It looks WAY BETTER on the Xbox 360 than it does on the PC. I just looked at both versions today and you can see a clear difference in technical quality.

Unfortunately its still a port... A true CoD on the 360 will be much better down the line.

Not true... both the PC and the X360 game engines were built simulataneously from the ground up to take advantage of each platform's strengths.

Indeed. On a side note, isn't Brothers in Arms on the 360 going to use the Unreal 3 engine. Now THAT is going to look sweet, blowing CoD2 out of the water graphically for sure.

Dude, I am weak at the knees for Brothers in Arms. I fucking LOVED Earned in Blood.

BIA with Unreal 3.... drooool.

Absolutely, BiA is my most anticpated next-gen game. Given the fantastic sound design, presentation, and tactical gameplay of the first two, it's going to be a sight to see....Of course, this is coming from someone who thinks the BiA series is the best console FPS this gen. Hopefully we'll see it by late '06.

CoD 2 looks like a good substitute in the meantime, probably will pick it up at launch.

Wow, thats sad if true. I really expected more after playing it in person. Still, most fun demo to play and good action...just not as jaw-dropping as I wanted.

Well, it doesn't have the best graphics of the launch line-up, but the game is butter smooth and pretty intense to boot. And I'm a BIA slut so this statement actually means something.

thats a hell of a server you guys got there. started off at 2500kbs but now its evened out to 1200-1300.

Condemned just keeps on impressing me more and more everytime I see it.

and I'm with che, the graphics don't have to blow my mind since its got great gameplay, great control, great framerate and awesome sound. hard to top that.

Didn't Gearbox show off something from BiA3 at some press thing weeks ago? My memory is a little fuzzy, but I recall reading something about that. Can't wait to see what they do on the next gen hardware. BIA's was an awesome game.

BTW, CoD2 and Condemned are looking top notch. 2 launch buys for me.

Damnit Che. I am trying to save money and you go and say something like that. I am working on Hill 30 for the second time to try and put aside the desire to get Earned in Blood. Is it really that good?

Condemned looks awesome I think it looks better than PDZ and CoD2. The atmosphher, the lighting, everthing looks killer. Really scary stuff

Condemned seems to be a slower-paced FEAR, with a CSI twist and some spookiness.

As someone said in another thread, instead of gun-porn, we get bum-fights.

i dont really like this matt leone guy, he's always negative. its like you have to make a AAA game to get his approval. not to mention his mild spoiler towards the end.

... @ the condemned video.

Gee, put people that actually like games to talk about them. They were talking about Condemned as if it was a straight shooter/action game as opposed to an adventure game with some action elements in it. -100 1UP

And damn them for potentially giving out a huge spoiler.

Che, next time, just do the entire video yourself. :p

Hell they talk any more about Condemned and we would've heard the whole ending...

This is true. I hear Condemned is rather short. Exaggerated tales put it at somewhere around the 6 hour range. I dunno, that sounds like an Xtreme Speedrun to me.

Sounds like it...the other time I've heard out there is 10-15 hrs.

I am pretty sure this game will NOT be 6 hours. There are 3-4 lesser serial killers that you have to track down before you take on the main one I believe. Plus, I will be replaying levels just to see what objects I can find to beat the hell out of the bums.

I believe you che, but there was virtually no difference between the PC demo (at highest details) when compared to the XBOX360 shots from the same areas. Of course, if the 360 version truly does run at 60 fps (it does, right?)...it will be the one to buy.

Are there any puzzles in Condemned? I don't mean "put the red crystal to open a sewer gate"-puzzle, but more environmental puzzles.

As far as I can tell, it feels very 60fps. I can get a definitive answer for you next week from Infinity Ward.

I'm telling you now, though, the 360 version is the one to play.

As for environmental puzzles in Condemned, I have no idea. I've only played like an hour of the game so far and it really didn't have much in the way of solving puzzles. I think it's more about exploration, and tension. Very survival horror feel to the game. I love it.

not enough condemned talk!

When is the PC version coming out? :)

I played the CoD2 demo at Walmart, and it really doesn't look that much different than CoD2 on my PC. Of course it runs at twice the framerate (60FPS X360 vs 30FPS my PC), but key/mouse at 30fps is better to me than a controller at 60fps.

It sure was 60 fps at X05. Btw I hear this game was the first 360 game to be sent for manufacturing, with retail copies being available for the publisher next week.

I've heard 4 hours. If I'm remembering correctly.
