TI: So with the discussion of should we make her American or English got really heated, one of the staff said "Oh, how about Japanese?" I said "No, not Japanese." And he said "Seriously! How about a robot?" And when I saw that this guy was seriously suggesting making her a robot I realized that he was seriously suggesting making her a robot I realized he was completely out of his mind, so i said "OK, Japanese is fine." And we've already decided that all of the female characters of this game will appear at a South pacific island with coconuts and all that good stuff.
1UP: What? Where?
TI: Of course, DOAX2. And when I said "No one wants to see a robot in a bathing suit," and then the other guy was like "Well, there are some robots that are sexy." I was like "Oh, this guy is crazy." And at this point I got fed up with the whole thing, that's when I decided on Japanese and the name 'Kokoro.'
1UP: Is that guy a big Hajime Sorayama fan? Who paints sexy robots.
TI: I don't know that artist in particular, but I'm aware that there's a kind of sexy robot subculture within a subculture, but I have no intention of bringing that sort of culture into Dead or Alive. And when I said we would make her Japanese, he was satisfied and we were finally able to return to doing serious business.
Do you think my decision was right?
1UP: I like the character.
TI: You know there was a chance that she would be this android that had a satellite connection to a sniper satellite that could attack you from 10,000 miles up in orbit. That was one of the ideas that came across. And the guys suggested that it was this crazy plot about how it was actually this sniper satellite that killed Maria, Helena's mother, in the backstory. This guy was crazy.
1UP: Maybe you have to let your developers outside a little bit more.
