1up Xbox 360 Giveaway

Fuzzy

I would bang a hot farmer!
I saw this on Digg today.

http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3139329

1up is giving away an Xbox 360 and copies of NBA 2K6 and NHL 2K6 each day for the entire month of November starting today. The link hasn't changed yet but I know a lot of people here are interested and will be checking it until it does. I don't know what the rules are but it's probably only open to US residents. :(

tech problems. I hear it should be resolved before the clock strikes midnight (on the west coast).

Lately I've been having problems with accessing 1up every now and then, errors that keep the pages from loading (IE pops up an "Operation Aborted" message, it did so again just now). I thought it might be just my PC at first, but I tried it on a different one and got the same error. Am I alone in these troubles, or are other people having the same problem?

Damn, my last chance to win a 360. It's unreal how many giveaways they've had for the 360, especially considering the great odds you get on some of these contests.

I'd enter if I hadn't already won one.

Good luck everyone.

Yeah, I've been having this exact same problem. Almost no page loads for me now because I get the Operation Aborted message.

do i have to sign up to 1up

That's the whole point 1up holds these contests, to get you to sign up so they can increase their memberlist. Never mind that so many people never actually stick around. 1up should reward their faithful readers instead :)

One way would be having contests open to only members of a certain level.

EDIT: Or giving higher level members more of a shot at winning.

Get her...

I do like Taiwanese girls... ;)

I like Fuzzy's 2nd idea. You don't want to have contests open to only veteran members because that's not going to entice new members to sign up. I'm sure 1up doesn't want that. But if you give higher level members a higher shot of winning, say give them more weight when calculating the probability of winning (think weighted averages), that would work. This is assuming the contest is still based on randomly choosing registered members.

Okay, but why should some dude who posts on the message board and does all the Friendster-type shit get more of a chance at winning than me? I read 1up daily, usually a couple times checking for updates. I don't participate on the forums, or with the Friendster shit, because I figure that would be redundant (I already GAF, I have a Myspace, I blog, etc).

I'm entering. If I win I'll give the Xbox to one of my friends, mine's paid off. I want people to play Crackdown with.

I just checked and the link now works. Too bad it's not open to Canadians but I expected that. :(

Well, you don't need to do that Friendster stuff. 1up tracks how many previews, features, etc. that you read anyway.

The page says: Free Entry > About you > Free Offers > Entry Confirmation
I already have an account, so I guess I bypass the "about you" page. I was taken to the free offers, clicked continue, and then get an error connection message. When I restarted the process, it told me my entry was already received. I hope my entry actually went through...

the contest is still screwed up.

When you click Next on the page with all the different email offers, it gives you a 404 error because they have it pointing to something at localhost.

I changed the domain to www.1up.com, and not it looks like it "sent me an emaik', but I haven't recieved anything.

Yes, I just ran in to that problem. So I decided to go back to 1up.com and just try signing in with my new account. Now I get an error there.

Not working for me...
Code:
<input type="hidden" name="OI_WPARAM_URL" value="http://localhost/do/contestConfirm">

So winning is based on how many revews, previews, articels, etc. you read each day in november? Positng ont he forums to?
Shit, are you serious? I thought you just had to enter the club or whatever, and everyone had an equal chance.

Not I. But I did try to enter again and it said I had already signed up for the contest. I am sure they will work it out.

I signed up before class this morning. After clicking the submit button I got some weird browser error. Figured it was due to Firefox or something... So just now I went back and tried to sign up with IE, and it says I've already signed up. Haven't received a confirmation email or anything. Hopefully it worked.

Edit: So, how does this contest work? Is it just random selection from 1up members or what?

Seems like it does work, only the last page doesn't.

You've already entered to win! You only need to sign-up once, and you're eligible for each day we do the drawing!

Thanks for entering!

Ok...? :|

So its a random thing? I just sit back and lose?
