So, Any locals and those that know the City, What's there that I should see that isn't in the tourguides?

I went to spain/portugal for 2 weeks and barcelona's a nice place. Check out the Collosium, Bullfights, and the women. The night life is great over there.

ITS DA BOMB, YO! :lol

:-/

Anyway, one thing that isn't a pretty sight at night is the longest street (i think) in Barcelona called La Ramblas(?). At night, it's like the red light district full of black whores.

You can find some free nightclubs at the bay (Port Veille i think). No entracne fee but high drink-prices!

Man, enjoy it. It sounds like one of the best places to visit in Europe. I haven't been to Spain, but plan on seeing Barcelona.

Wow

I'm staying in a Hotel in the Diagonal Mar area of the city.

Camp Nou is on my list, Bullfights, however, are not. (I'm a smelly pro-animal rights hippy)

Going to see as much of Gaudi's work as possible (Primary reason for the trip), get some Sun and Beach time, and drink, lots :D

I was going to hit Carrer Nou de la Rambla at some point anyway to see Gaudi's Palau GĂĽell, guess I'll have to make sure to see it at night now if thats the same one :D

If I had my way, hell yes. however it's best to ignore that smegstained excuse of biological waste product and stick to the topic at hand. :)

You lucky bastard, I haven't gone back to Barcelona in 10 years :(

I stayed at a parent's friend's house. The thing I remember most of the house was that every morning, at 5AM or so, the shephard would come by with his giant flock of sheep, it was nice.

Uhm, I remember going to Dali's museum, which was crazy (Kinda hard to miss, it was a big red building with eggs on top), visiting that one cathedral, the Olympic stadium, and going around town at about 1-2AM and dancing with the gypsies.

Well I'm sorry if I hurt peoples feelings. I didn't think jokes about subway systems which are nowhere near the ones effected by terrorist attacks would bother people... but since they do, I apologize if I hurt your feelings or offended you in ways that GAf usually doesn't offend.

What's smeg? Is it bad? I'm guessing it's bad. Especially if I'm stained with it.

As it is, pertaining to the topic at hand, personally I think you're a fool for going to a city which is as marked for terrorism as Barcelona is. I've warned family off of going there, and I personally wouldn't go there. The whole "terrorists won't change our way of life" thing works until they simply end your life instead of trying to change it. Having a lot of people who want me dead, because of where I live and who I am, is one thing... going to a place where they'd want to bomb anyways is another.

(in case you're wondering what I'm talking about... Basque Separatist Groups.)

Well, Dali museum is in figueres, about 100km away of barcelona.

In Barcelona you MUST see everithing related with gaudi (Sagrada familia, parc gĂĽell...), camp nou, el barri gotic, montjuic (Nice views, but be careful, the teleferic (?Âż?) is broken and the castle is quite high :lol), the beach, gracia, the ramblas and so on.

Of course FORGET (And this is going for EVERYONE) about bullfighting. In spain each day less and less people likes bullfighting. Between young people about 90% hates bullfighting, and if i i'm right in catalonia there is no bullfighting anymore.

Beyond of that, in the ramblas, you could have some sangria jars... argg, simply fantastic :lol

PD: Forget also about terrorism, there is almost no risk. Basque separatists are quite stopped and basically all the risk is about al-qaeda, like in england, usa, italy and every first-world country of the hole earth...

When you see a terrorist be sure to give him the secret password, Dirka dirka mohammed jihad.

Gaudi's Sagrada Familia cathedral:

Check it out, you won't be disappointed. I sure wasn't.

Well, stuck in the middle of the night @ Heathrow and hours from checkin, bah. and this net access is atrociously expensive, so just a quicky:

whytemyke: Apology accepted, not everyone has the balls to apologise, esp. here on GAF, and a person willing to eat humble pie on the net is deserving of a little latitude. As a matter of course I'm not worried by terrorists, my liver will kill me before they ever do :P

Nightbringer: Yeah, Gaudi's work was the primary reason Barcelona won over visiting Rome, Milan and about another dozen places I was deciding on. A must is an understatement.

Now excuse me, I have a several gallons of Sangria to prepare for. :)

Agreed ... check out as much architecture as possible.

Sagrada Familia is amazing. It would be nice if they ever finished it though :lol

Wow, what a great place, I fell in love with the place, possibly one of the best short breaks I've *ever* had.

I didn't get to do half of what I planned, yet did 3 times as much as I expected :P

The people, food and city were lovely, and I proposed to Kath on the beach with a ring I bought in Barcelona to make it the most romantic holiday ever...

...and she said yes :)

Got to dash now to do the sound for a band in front of 35,000 people at the Bulldog Bash (*gulp!*) - but should be able to post some piccies up when I return on Sunday.

Going back to Barcelona sometime within the next 2 years, although that will be for my Honeymoon :D

Oh, and Gaudi was a genius. :P

this thread needs pictures! :)

Congrats on the engagement! What better place to do it. Maybe she would have refused if you had proposed in Leicester. ;) ;)

I'll have to check back for the rest of the pics.
