I don't get it...what does a next-gen FPS have to look like? Personally, as games get more shader-heavy, it's really difficult to make such judgements until it's seen moving.

At minimum? A next-gen FPS should be able to match this level of detail...

Hopefully, we'll see games that approach the Killzone CG demo (both in terms of detail, scale, and animation at a framerate of 60 fps).

Regardless, those PD0 shots look as if they could be done on XBOX.

Like Gears of War for example?

This isn't RARE hate, it's just normal "this is not next-gen looking" hate. I could not mistake GoW for an Xbox1 title, while PD:0 looks like an Xbox1 title (Doom, Chaos Theory etc.) so far. Nothing to do with the developer, just poor graphics that's all.

I can only judge graphics, gameplay may be superb but it's kind of hard to see on screenshots.

All FPSs should look better or as good as the Unreal 3 engine these days. I expect nothing less. :D

Oh, and

"Xbox360 -1" :lol

Whoever typed that is a dolt.

Come on people, at least finish your math. It comes to XBox 359 LOLAMIRITE. Sure, the PD0 zero shots look "this-genish", but chances are it's running at a substancially smoother framerate. Not every upcoming next-gen game is going to look like the bleeding edge Unreal 3 tech we've seen.

I agree but I wouldnt go as far as to say the graphics are "poor". It just doesnt look close to GoW. Might be an unfair comparison but it has set the bar high IMO.

you guys are right, but i do not get a next gen vibe from this game.

its looks like its for this generation.

gears of war has some awsome details and that is a minimum for next gen.

MS needs to stop releasing tiny screen shots.

They're smaller res because the game will, in fact, be running on the PSP.

And yes, it looks like Xbox (those two screenshots). But it's just 5 years in development.

I guess I'm not going to hold everyone making next-gen titles to a few dramatic screenshots of other games where their action, for the most part, will look just as this gen as those shots seem to scream to you. I suppose it's just down to MS/Rare to release shots that are more dramatic, and are focused on close-ups of characters in front of the camera and such, but probably aren't quite indicative of what you're going to see on a regular basis while playing the game...in terms of apparent detail. Not every game even has to go the extreme detail levels shown in those shots...the preponderance of insignificant details is important to the promise that next-gen brings, graphically...you want to be more involved and find believeability in the visuals on screen...but it's certainly not a prerequisite for being next-gen, IMO. I can see why people would want to have it all. I just don't think it's necessary or even a detriment to a title that doesn't let you know that a your characters on screen have 100k hairs on their head. At some point, for me, it just has to have good art direction and enough content on screen to make it work...in terms of visuals.

In the end, these are super-small screenshots (French mag scans?) that don't show enough to give a proper and fair shot to PD0 versus the high-rez media on GoW's real-time stuff and the prerendered antics of the Killzone demo.

"Poor" as for next-gen. PD:0 sure could battle now with Doom 3 and HL-2 for the best graphics but facing Gears is another story.

Of course the fact that Gears is almost a second-gen 360 title doesn't help either.

The comparison shots leads me to believe that Killzone demo graphics will be acheived on both consoles, hopefully all three.

But PDO does look good in those shots and they are new to me aswell.

wtf...

That's simply what I was hoping for/expecting from next-gen. My current expectations are actually pretty low at this point. Games like PD0 barely qualify as current gen PC titles...

I was expecting a leap beyond the PC, as was the case with every other generation.

That's never been the case Dark... PC's have always had the edge on consoles. Even as recently as the Xbox. When Xbox was released PC games looked better. Granted, the gap has become much smaller, especially with the focus on high-def, but PC's will always have the edge.

Gears of clay looks decent, though the art isn't too hot. And a 3rd person shooter? Meh.

I'll take PD0 please, those screens look hot.

That wasnt true for the PS2 though. I was impressed by TTT but it sure didnt blow me away.. I guess SC did a good job of that. And RRV was pretty damn weak when it was released. A fun little game though but with so so graphics.

Your expectations are too high. Is every developer going to get GOW graphics for their games? No. Just as Splinter Cell graphics on Xbox aren't common and MGS3 graphics aren't common on PS2.

You'll be lucky to buy a dozen games next gen if those are your standards.

I doubt even dark10x would let technical expectations get in the way of a good game. At the end of the day, we all love fun above all. At least I'm pretty sure we all do.

not dark10x... its good graphics / framerate or bust.

Did you even read his whole post?

My god this forum is the king of taking things out of context.

I love that gun. Now if only the animation, sound, zoom and feeling is right...

I'm kinda looking forward to this game on the new Xbox... I will probably get this to kill the time waiting for the next generation ;)

Got it. Show me an Xbox game with the draw distance, scope, clarity and detail of these shot.

And if you want to judge something other than what you see, try reading a preview or something, specifically one that touches on the sheer size of the map shown in these two pictures. You're either incapable of noticing finer detail beyond pure flash bang surface fluff, or you're just looking to bitch. Judging by your previous contributions to PD0 threads, I'll assume it's the latter. The PD0 hate around here is becoming pathetic.

We're not hating it. We're just saying it doesn't look very next-gen. Because ... you know ... it kinda doesn't.

jesus, you guys really think you can tell that the game looks like shit from 8 pixel by 10 pixel pictures? :lol
You're right... Scans are far superior...

Althought 50 pixels of width isn't that bad...

Are you kidding? The only difference is the lighting from the different environments.

Umm no, take a look at the hand model and there's a clear difference

To make it perfect they need the blue hue from the display of the scope to be casting light on the inner plastic of the scope.

It really looks like an XBox game. It looks no better than Splinter Cell or Conker. Gears of War should be the minimum for next generation. Otherwise what is the point in dropping $300+ on a new system?

The same point in dropping $300+ for any system - the games you can't play anywhere else.

? You guys are delusional if you think GOW will be the minimum next gen. You guys don't remember the crap that came out for the ps2 launch. Was MGS2 the minimum for the ps2? You guys are in for a big disappointment if you expect every game to look better than GOW and that killzone render.
