Kolb is one of the best in the league at inducing ground balls, so that somewhat offsets the low K rate. It's still a concern, and if he has any control issues at all, like what he's gone through to begin this season, then there is trouble.

I really think Kolb would be better coming in during the 6th/7th/8th with men on base to get double plays. But the Brewers had no one else, Kolb stepped up and earned the magic closer label, and that is a difficult thing to lose.

"No... no it's not..."

Ryan Wagner is the Reds closer of the future. They'll sink/swim with Graves all year or if they can find anyone to give anything for him then move Wagner to closer. I know I'm already sick of Graves. He's 5-5 in saves, just goes to show you how stupid that stat is. Wagner will get a few chances to close maybe. If it's a saving situation tomorrow he might get a shot since Graves has pitched 3 days in a row.

Hopefully Coffey pitches well so the Reds can get rid of Weber or Weathers when Ortiz/Hudson/Hancock come back.

Hahahaha, god Koch sucks. I was so happy when Beane traded him for Foulke...and so crushed when the Marlins thought they could fix him.

Worth noting that as bad as he was, it took over a year for the White Sox to permanently remove him from the closer spot.

I decided to sit my two Reds players and start Prior, he better not disappoint me. Danny Graves got my ERA off to a shitty start last night.

The A's have a better record than the Stankees. Just sayin! Also, they don't have a psychotic owner that will meddle in the baseball operations and make boneheaded decisions that seem good in the short term but are bad in the long term. They also have the smartest GM in all of baseball(although I'm starting to think that Depodesta is just as smart, or maybe sold his soul to the devil or something).

Keep Graves in there and let im rack up saves, which makes him more tradable near midseason. Not only is he not the greatest, but he's getting paid $6 mil a year.

Danny Graves fucking sucks. He always makes everyone sweat when he comes in. I can not bear to watch a game when he is in.

Go Reds! The balance of power in the NL Central is shifting!

I found this on Danny Graves:

Stats of the day: Danny "thrill a minute" Graves
I presented a theory to Mark Wagner, the official statistician of my show. I said Danny Graves has to have been scored upon in more save situations than any reliever in MLB since last year. Sure enough......here is what he came up with:
MOST SAVE CONVERSIONS/ALLOWING AT LEAST 1 RUN SINCE 2004
Danny Graves 13
Shawn Chacon 9
Eric Gagne 7
Francisco Cordero 6
Jason Frasor 6
And keep in mind, that is in situations he actually RECORDED the save.......not blow it.
Also:
In his 46 saves since 2004, Graves has retired the side in order just 15 times....

I saw one of his blown saves in person, we were beating the Braves and he blew it in the 9th. Smoltz came in and showed that bastard how to close.

Word is Graves sinker hasn't been good for a couple years thats why he isn't as good as he used to be. He was never a great closer really but he was better than he is now for sure. He is a great fielding pitcher though. It's a good thing because he needs all the help he can get.

He is making so much because Bowden as well as many others including myself thought he could be a good starting pitcher. He always seemed to get better the more innings he worked. But we all saw how that turned out and now the Reds are stuck with a very average 6 million dollar "closer." Thankfully he is in the last year of his deal.

Oh yea, he's also a huge loser. His quotes make me sick. He has excused away, rationalized, or downplayed every game he's ever blown.

Yes, he definitely does not take it too seriously- he always celebrates his saves too much for me, like last night. Gave up a run. He should not be smiling or pointing to the sky, he should be throwing up because he sickens eveyone!

The Red Sox today agreed to a contract extension with knuckleballer Tim Wakefield for the 2006 season that contains club options for 2007 and beyond.

Wakefield, 38, who joined the Sox as a minor league free agent in 1995 and is the longest-tenured member of this year's team, will earn $4 million next season with a performance bonus that, should he make 30 starts, could earn him $5.25 million.

The righthander will earn $50,000 next season for each start from 11-20 and $75,000 for each start from 21-30. Each club option thereafter is for $4 million plus bonuses.

“For the last 11 years, Tim Wakefield has represented the best of the Boston Red Sox,'' general manager Theo Epstein said. “His continuing contributions to the success of the franchise on the field are matched only by his dedication to community service. This agreement virtually guarantees Wake will retire as a Boston Red Sox, which is fitting. In the long, proud history of this franchise, few men have brought greater honor to the uniform.''

In agreeing to the deal, Wakefield, who has a career mark with the Sox of 116-99 with 22 saves and a 4.28 earned run average, said he will donate $100 to charity for every strikeout he records this season.

Wakefield is off to a 2-0 start with a 1.37 ERA in three starts this season, his 11th in Boston. He is second on the team's career list with 390 appearances, third with 1,866 innings, third with 253 starts and seventh with 116 wins.

He also has 1,343 strikeouts for the Red Sox -- ahead of Cy Young and behind only Roger Clemens and Pedro Martinez.

This is fantastic news. Wake deserves it.

Plus he is great against the yankees!

11-2 baby! I left when it was 6-1 and thought the streak was over and come back in the 10th with us up 8-6. Milton Bradley = player of the week for sure!

DODGERS....That's right!

What a game, dissappointing start by Dessens. Steve Schmoll with the play of the game on the squeeze in the top of the 9th. Badley with the 2 Run bomb for the win! WOO! :D

I've got a fever, and the only cure is more Ryan Langerhans!

Bobby Cox doesn't though, he's starting a gimpy Brian Jordan and Raul "Where'd my bat speed go?" Mondesi over last night's hero. Unbelievable.

Griffey needs to try the weight room every once in a while, he's hit about 15 balls to the warning track already this year, and no homers.

Edit: NOMAHHHHHHHH!

Welcome back Padilla - allows 5(!) HRs in 3 innings (Mientkiewicz, Piazza, Reyes and 2 to "Mini Manny").

Nomar still slumping: 0 for 3 so far tonight. Really regret picking him over Michael Young in my fantasy league...

After scoring 19 yesterday, Yanks have 1 through 7! :lol

Wasn't Beckett supposed to start tonight? It seems that Brian Moehler replaced him. How come? He's not down with the blister problem again now, is he?

EDIT: My bad, Beckett's starting tomorrow.

Good going, Unit, another non-quality start.

The 2005 Yankees are even more annoying to watch than last year's.

Fucking hell, get that asshole Tom Gordon out of NY.

I can't watch the METS game (here in NYC mind you -_-) but I'm looking at the score at YAHOO and they seem to be ass raping the Phils hardcore tonight. @_@

No matter what happens, I just can't wait for this year to be over.

Tom Gordon, Paul Quantrill, Kevin Brown, Rey Sanchez, Mike Stanton, Felix Rodriguez, and Steve Karsay can all be taken off the books.

200 MILLION OF OLD.

RODRIGUEZ AND WELLIE CRY.

Get some damn youth! The baseball version of the Oakland Raiders are here!

part of me wants them to fail miserably because this team is in dieing need of change. change something dammit. posada should not be on this team, they should have traded him for unit when they had the chance.

and can someone tell me why jeter didnt bunt when there were guys on first and second and 0 outs plus he was 1 for 16 lifetime against the pitcher??????

Awesome win for the Jays. :D

Great to see Doc get a win and a solid game at Fenway, although Batista had me a bit worried.

Do not worry my friend Calder! Batista, much like Devo, knows how to WHIP it, but he's not going to give up the ERs.

Beer, who is that in your avatar?

Whats funny is you can only split a two games series with us, starting your two best pitchers and we started guys that are only in the rotation because of injuries. :lol

We'll see next week (I believe) when Cub ass is kicked all over Wrigley when we get Wilson, Harang, and Milton in the lineup for the series.

On one hand, Johnson's mediocre play is surprising (it's the DRays fer chrissakes!), but on the other, it's not. The last I saw of him in the AL (in 1998, I think), he was really not that dominating. At the time, I remember seriously thinking he was washed out. But then came the trade to the Astros and - more importantly - a move to the NL where he was suddenly facing pitchers and weak @ss number 8 hitters. The rest is history. This year, with Pedro carving out opposing hitters like it's 1999 (and him having a bad season in the AL last year - by his standards at least), there are definitely some parallels to be drawn I think.

Wood is getting shelled. Maddux is getting shelled. Zambrano hasn't put it all together yet. Dempster has been iffy. Nomar hasn't been hitting yet. ARAM has been in a slight slump. Yet Cubs are sitting at 7-7. I'll take it.

The pitching will heat up as the season goes along, and Nomar and Ramirez will start shredding the ball. I envision good things to come!

Backe Attacke beats the braves, that win felt good.

Congrats to Willy for hitting his first career hr.
