2012 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Don't Use Imgur

TronLight, you are too paranoid :). Steam won't ban you for using another type of .exe. At least in my experiences and several other people, Valve isn't likely to monitor what files every single Steam user have on their computers and subsequently assess whether or not to entirely ban anyone from the service.

Yeah, you're right probably.

Anyway, a pair of screen of mine:

Damn, Eatchildren, now I *have* to start up a ME2 playthrough.

Regarding the textures: I really like what JeanLuc has done. It's not overdone or intrusive compared to the original textures, while they are extremely high quality. It's astonishing that one man/woman has accomplished so much more than a multi-million dollar developer has.

That's why I like them. I often shy away from texture packs as I'm a stickler for games matching the artists' intended vision, especially for games with great art direction like Mass Effect (if the game looks like junk, eg: Oblivion, I'll take all the mods I can get). JeanLuc seems to have basically gone over the original textures in a higher resolution, line for line, colour for colour, and only added logical details where appropriate, like fabric patters, scuffed metal, etc. Otherwise they look exactly like what I'd expect from official work.

Which is maddening, as it shows what could have been possible and what wasn't. I'd kill for Mass Effect 3 to at least try and push PCs a bit harder than Mass Effect 2 did, but looking at the required specs it seems to be taking the same path; a brute force port that just uses the extra processing power to clean up the IQ. Would be nice for some higher resolution textures and additional effects.

IW has always named their Call of Duty games by their own number so yes, CD5 is technically correct as the .EXE is called IW5. They never gave a shit about the fact that other games were being made in their series.

About TR: Anniversary, try turning off depth of field. The engine is older so the effect really just softens the background in a ghetto manner.

Example, hmm I should see if there are any AO comps that work:

I think is threat is somehow going in the wrond direction. I'd prefer more quality than quantity and more discussion. Seems more like a spam thread for the fraps folder.

i am with you. oblivion is a huge offender as far as quality of assets goes so replacements are almost mandatory there, but i would never go near something like the deus ex 1 texture replacement package.

your shots have completely sold me on that mass effect texture mod for precisely the reasons you stated. it's way too sexy (and faithful to the original look) for me not to get it working for my current me1 playthrough and future me2 playthrough. i stumbled upon it on the bioware forums a while back but decided against it at the time due to needing a different exe. that seems to have been a mistake.

If I'm being honest I can't see any difference in the ME2 textures EatChildren posted except for the clothing.

Edit: Wait, I think Miranda's lips are more chapped.

that's what it's for: replacing the hilariously low-res default character textures

http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/128/index/5314761/1
This modification is designed with the sole purpose of improving select textures (mostly for characters) in Mass Effect 1 and 2. When the game was released, character textures ranged from a resolution of 512x512 to 1024x1024. Because of this, many of the textures appeared to be pixellated or blurry. Much speculation has been thrown around as to why Bioware used these textures when they have sources of 2048x2048, and the most probable argument is the limitations in disc space and texture memory for the Xbox 360.

This mod aims to improve that. My goal was to massively improve character detail while keeping Bioware's fantastic design as intact as possible. Character textures now range from 2048x2048 to 4096x4096, which is 4x more detailed than the default textures. The modification comes in a several flavors, which I will explain below.

yeah, I pretty much always kill DOF, it's more often than not detrimental to the overall quality of the image. The Witcher 2 is one of the few games I've seen that actually make good use of it.

anyways, just powered through Kane and Lynch 2 tonight, uploading shots now
