Personally one of the most underrated games this gen. It led to much better environment movement in ALL games. You couldn't release a FPS with average interaction after this. And it had a great protagonist, interesting story and looked fantastic, DICE are craftsmen, that's for sure.

Woah, let's... let's not say things we can't take back.

Does ME ever go on same for $5 on Origin? For some reason the time trial DLC isn't available on steam. Would there be any way to activate ME on Origin without buying it through them?

My bad everyone I'll get tired of DOF soon I promise. Quite my most favorite effect in games tho...

I replaced completely DC's weather as I wasn't really satisfied with it. I like it so far. I guess I'm almost done in tweaking every zones in the game to my liking.

Sky looks a bit on the fake side in this one. Desaturation will do wonder.

SweetFX is the bane of gaming - not because it's bad, but because any time a game looks good without it, people ask "is that using SweetFX?" lol
It's not because it looks good, it's just because it looks better than I remember from when I last played it. I recall it having a heavy orange/brown/sepia tinge to it, hence the question :p

I caved in and bought the game and DLC this week. Did a few maps and they were a lot of fun.

Hehe. Well SweetFX doesn't work well with everything either. I had that moment where I tried almost every game out there with SweetFX. Very few games came out great...

Sleeping Dogs, Fallout 3, Dead Space 1, Assassin's Creed 3 and Batman AC are the only ones worth it so far in my opinion.

If it's on sale on Steam and you buy it through there, you can just punch the Serial code they give you into Origin and it usually redeems.

If it doesn't you can contact customer support, give them the key, and they'll add it to your account.

Eurgh, that looks like a PSP game. Damn, my memory had this game clocked as looking pretty great.

It pretty much is a PSP game. The second is so far beyond the first I have no idea how they got it working on the PS2. Anyway, I take those screens back, I just found out I can play at 6x internal res and keep 60fps.

The worst part of continually improving graphics tech is how amazing games that had unbelievable graphics can barely hold their ground against new ones.

HL2 should get an update, at least to a Portal 2-graphics level

Nope, good art is good art no matter how old it is, and HL2's macro art will always be fantastic, even if the micro details were limited in technical scope. To change it just for the sake of appearances would only be to desecrate it, like that Fake Factory mod someone posted a few pages back.

You cray man, you cray. If anything HL2 still holds up against modern games merely due to it's artistic merits. Of course it trails behind technically but in an age where games can still look like shit regardless of how advanced tech they're using I think HL2 manages to shine.

A dimly lit, bland corridor isn't going to look amazing however good the graphics tech is. Find similar locations in more recent games and I'm pretty sure they won't look much better.

I beg to differ! It works well with everything, it's just that not all effects work well with all games (although even that is debatable depending on how severe you set the parameters for said effects).

Games like Mechwarrior Online in particular are horribly flat by default and pretty much require the use of curves so as not to look completely boring. I still don't understand why devs go for that sort of art direction...

SweetFX can be nice in some games, however far too many people just plaster their games with every SweetFX option there is and turn up the values. Looks like ass. Saturated colours does not make a game prettier.

I don't use SweetFX because it breaks D3DOverrider and I don't know of another way to force triple buffering if a game's vsync doesn't do it.

Working my way through my backlog. Have some Max Payne 3 to round out the end of the year:

(using some SweetFX, DPX shader + some liftgammagain to remove the greenish tint)
