So you know how sometimes you just really dig something but you don't look that much into it? Like you just kind of accept it for what it is and let it roll.

I saw Charley Bradley at FYF this year and it was mesmerizing. So I started listening to Victim of Love a lot, which is an absolutely amazing, flawless, timeless album. Timeless to such a degree that I figured it was a reissue. Nope, 2013 release. Massive omission out of ignorance.

If you ever have the chance to see Charles Bradley live you HAVE TO. The man is a murderer on the stage. Let Love Stand a Chance is fire.

Edit -- WATCH THIS. FIRE!!!

Chromatics | Kill for Love

Great list man. And <3 for Chromatics. Though I'm a little surprised After Dark 2 is not on your list.

Yeah, I just never really listened to it that much. I like a lot of it, but there's some really annoying tracks on there especially that Farah track "Into Eternity." I like the track itself, but her just talking over the track is super annoying.

Ah yeah, didn't like that one much either.

Farah has an album out soon apparently. She's had some interesting songs, but nothing major yet. Hopefully she and Johnny have some interesting stuff up their sleeve for her full-length.

03 | Daft Punk - Random Access Memories

07 | Dream Theater | Dream Theater
08 | The Strokes | Comedown Machine
09 | Haim | Days Are Gone
10 | David Bowie | The Next Day

The hate some people have towards Random Access Memories amuses me. Is it because it was hyped up before release and overplayed afterwards? While I would agree, I still think its a great album with some great tracks (up there with Discovery).

Not expecting this to have any impact. Really I just want to list Protest the Hero 25 times.... because this, this, this and this.

01 | Protest the Hero | Volition
02 | Dream Theater | Dream Theater
03 | Haken | The Mountain
04 | Wintergatan | Wintergatan
05 | Trivium | Vengeance Falls
06 | Ingested | The Surreption
07 | Persefone | The Great Migration
08 | Breakdown of Sanity | Perception
09 | A Day to Remember | Common Courtesy
10 | Glamour of the Kill | Savages
11 | Carcass | Surgical Steel
12 | Erra | Augment
13 | Within the Ruins | Elite
14 | Scale the Summit | The Migration

16 | Avenged Sevenfold | Hail to the King
17 | Deathember | Going Postal
18 | Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! | Pardon My French
19 | Tesla Boy | The Universe Made of Darkness
20 | The Safety Fire | Mouth of Swords

I managed to miss a lot of albums this year, despite being on Spotify all day at work. I'm always so far behind because there's just so much to get through. Not even set time aside for the new Ayreon record yet. It's a reeaallyy long album.

2013's 2012 album of the year: Sonata Arctica: Stones Grow Her Name. Holy shit is it good. Holyyyy shiiittt.

I just thought a lot of the songs were boring. And I really disliked all the vocalists on there except for Todd Edwards. I mean that really ruined some of the tracks for me. Especially Pharrell sounding like he was about to fall asleep on Lose Yourself to Dance and Get Lucky. The instrumentals on both of those were pretty enjoyable, but they're totally marred by Pharrell's dull vocals.

1 | Steven Wilson | The Raven that Refused to Sing
2 | TesseracT | Altered State
3 | The Ocean | Pelagial
4 | Soilwork | The Living Infinite
5 | Sigur Ros | Kveikur

7 | The Safety Fire | Mouth of Swords
8 | Orphaned Land | All is One
9 | Leprous | Coal
10 | Atoms for Peace | Amok

20 | Dream Theater | Dream Theater

Yeah, Slow Focus is in my top ten and it's not even my favorite Fuck Buttons album.

I'll have my list up before the 12th, I promise

01 | College | Heritage

Lately I've been wallowing in Neo 80's music and College is my favorite artist to come out of the whole neon-dazzled movement. Start filming Drive 2 in your head with "Les Automates".

02 | Mike Ratledge | Riddles of the Sphinx

My favorite newly unearthed 1970s avant-garde feminist film soundtrack of the year. Dig that ARP synthesizer with "Sequence 2".

03 | Slasher Dave | Spookhouse

Slasher Dave got my attention when he name checked John Carpenter and Fabio Frizzi on his Soundcloud page. Relive the horror of the early 80s with "House of Screams".

04 | Daft Punk | Random Access Memories

Daft Punk loves disco so much...and so do I! Feel the love with "Giorgio by Moroder".

05 | Patrick Cowley | School Daze

My favorite newly unearthed early 80s gay porn film soundtrack of the year. Use your imagination with "Journey Home".

06 | Dust Witch | Tetragrammaton EP

These guys have listened to an awful lot of Goblin, but that's not a bad thing. Confession Time: I own this on cassette. Share my progressive shame with "Heldscalla".

07 | Umberto | Confrontations

With his latest album Umberto moves away from the giallo sound, but only a few years forward in time. Indulge in even more 80s nostalgia with "Night Fantasy".

08 | Anamanaguchi | Endless Fantasy

Sure, it's hyperactive cotton candy, but it's just so damn fun! Load up on sugar and buzz along with "Bosozoku GF".

09 | Various Artists | Outrun Europa

While there are a few older tracks on this Retro Synth Wave 80s Something compilation, most of the tunes here seem to be new for this release, so I'm considering it a go! Here's Cartridge 1987 (no, seriously) with "The Chase".

10 | Zombie Zombie | Illuminations EP

What makes this an EP and not a 12" single? All fourteen minutes of "Illuminations (DJ Sotofett's House-Chugging-Tuff-Tripp-Mix)".

xx | FnordChan | FnordChan EP

I chose a good time to finally check out spotify, I've looked through every post in this thread and I have a ton of new music to check out. I am so far out of touch when it comes to new music haha.

Lots of neat choices in here, most I haven't heard. I love the whole retro synth thing.

Are you a John Carpenter fan by chance?

Thanks! As mentioned I've been positively wallowing in both retro and vintage synth sounds this year to the point where I've only been into new music if it sounds like old music. The GAF thread about Neo Synth 80s Music Wave isn't helping matters any.

Are you a John Carpenter fan by chance?

I-Heart-John-Carpenter.jpg

I love John Carpenter so much. (And Alan Howarth, too!) Some of my favorite reissues of the year were the swanky vinyl releases of the soundtracks to Assault on Precinct 13 and The Fog from Death Waltz Recording Company.

I-Heart-John-Carpenter2.jpg

Also, my introduction to Zombie Zombie was their album Zombie Zombie Plays John Carpenter, which is pretty freakin' awesome.

FnordChan

Wow, that's awesome! Would love to get Assault on Precinct 13 on vinyl.

And I've never listened to Zombie Zombie before unfortunately, but I'll definitely check out that John Carpenter album by them.

I bought one album from 2013 this... er last year and that was Burials from AFI. It is fantastic and has been near endlessly played since its release. So by default it's my AotY but it probably would have been anyway.

10 | The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die | Whenever, If Ever

While I don't really listen to much emo rock anymore, it will always hold a special place in my broken heart (//_-) I dig the shit out of this CD and so should you!

09 | Chance the Rapper | Acid Rap

I dig the production and the voice, I completely understand why someone would hate it, they are wrong, but I feel ya.

08 | The Cyclist | Bones in Motion

I got really high once and listened to this while watching Planet Earth on mute. Life changing shit

07 | Julia Holter | Loud City Song

I would probably seriously harm any one of you for a night with Julia Holter. Not a night of fucking even, just to brush her hair and drink tea or something.

06 | These New Puritans I Field of Reeds

This shit is inspired as fuck.

05 | Majical Cloudz | Impersonator

This shit is even more inspired as fuck.

04 | Cate Le Bon | Mug Museum

Lo-Fi pop magic. Drink tea and smoke a hand rolled cigarette and listen to this.

03 | Fat White Family | Champagne Holocaust

Garage Rock fuckin rips
These dudes rip

02 | Chelsea Wolfe | Pain is Beauty

I saw her with Russian Circles twice in the last year. I love her oh so much and when I got to hug her, it moved her up to the top 3 artists of all time. She is my alpha and omega.

01 | Parenthetical Girls | Privilege

Zac Pennington is brilliant and anything he does is automatically number one on my list. Fuck, this is so good. Please listen. Please understand. Fuck Reflektor, Fuck Modern Vampires, Fuck Yeezus, PRAISE PARENTHETICAL GIRLS

Modern Vampires is ok, Yeezus is whatever but Reflektor is not good
