2013 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Let the JPEG Die Already

Cross-posting from the other thread:

Resident Evil 5 cutscenes with removed borders

you got me all hot and bothered, there. I thought there was a mod to actually remove them... If I run in a cinematic AR, though, would the borders cause it to shrink and have blackness on the sides? or would it just crop to the size of my screen, I wonder...

ANYWAYS!!! Everyone's favorite HL2 Mod!

You'd think with Call of Duty making a bajillion dollars every year that they'd try a little harder to not make it look so freaking ugly. Yikes.

Agreed and wow.

We can only hope that this next generation ushers in much more graphical fidelity than the last did in it's respective time aka, never gonna happen. Hopefully, they'll at least be forced to get or build a better engine, along with Bethesda...

Damn... should I even bother with any of the Crysis games with a 1GB AMD 5770?

I did Crysis on my 4870 1gb which is similar in specs. It ran 1080p on mid-high fine. Crysis 2 DX9 also ran just fine.

Can't say I tried Crysis 3, but you'd likely have to turn details down to mid-low.

If you're playing them for pure eye candy, well, maybe avoid them. The gun play is good, and the story is kinda interesting if short/shallow.

You don't have to/ shouldn't quote the images unless they're obscenely large.

Just makes it more of a hassle to see them full sized.

I thought 2560 in width was considered too large for normal screens. Nevertheless, I'll revise accordingly.

Great Sheva and lava shot. Too bad all the whining about the supposed racism in RE5 ensured we probably won't see her again anytime soon.

Why would Capcom misunderstand the criticism? It wasn't focused on Sheva or the fact that it takes place in Africa, but it was particularly aimed at the idiotic and racist depiction of a tribe in Africa.

Definitely, it's embarrassing how ugly the game is. The MP in particular is one ugly looking game as opposed to the SP campaign which is passable at times. Hopefully with the next-gen consoles we see a dramatic step up.

I'm still bewildered by that bizarre Dtoid article where Dale North went on and on about how it was the best looking PS3 game of all time and it would blow away everyone in that regard.

luckily the game ran very well so massive amounts of aa/downsampling were not an issue. didnt dig into mp that much but the sp looked alright for a quick and dirty port.

when it gets cheap enough the campaign is worth checking out, was a nice surprise

crysis 2 and crysis 3 should be playable with that card on the lower settings and decent resolutions.

Crysis 2 sails well on that card... especially if you do not turn up the dx11 stuff.

I don't see why not. You won't be getting the kind of IQ you're seeing here, but that'll run them fine.

Fair enough. I'll likely stick with medium settings with most dx11 stuff muted, but I'll see how far some light mods can take me.

I'm a little late in responding, but since nobody's said it yet: Mr.SpaceCowboy, I appreciate you. Your posts made me laugh.

I am going to miss the absolutely hilarious IQ I can get off current gen games once the next gen stuff launches (at least for the year or so it takes for PC GPU's to completely obliterate their console counterparts again). I mean 4xSGSSAA and downsampling from 3k resolution while maintaining 60 FPS is pretty damn funny.

First post here, been wanting to share a lot of my images.
Don't worry though, these are probably the only Crysis 3 screenshots you'll see from me.

Took me a while to figure out if I liked the way the grass looked with SMAA over MSAA, came to the conclusion I prefer the way it looks with MSAA.

I love taking pics while playing, gonna post a few.

Sine Mora blew me away, so beautiful:

Mass Effect 3 (Omega)

Man, pictures lose a lot of quality. I used abload, do any of the other sites give better results?

I'm feeling this. I think next-gen console launch will get expensive, but not for the consoles :P

At least if cosole games render at 1080p with some AA on average (compared to 720p no AA this gen) the performance gap shouldn't need to be as large to get great IQ.

It's tough to do certain games justice with screenshots. Some people think they know how good certain games can look by just looking at screens and YT videos but you really need to see them with your own eyes to give an informed opinion.

Anyway, Trine 2 needs more love:

There has got to be a middle ground between the overbearing green, and cartoonishly vibrant colors of those two.

Edit: Oops, quoted wrong one

There's SweetFX, but it uses the original post-processing filter as a point of departure, thus forcing you to desaturate the green colors, while the red and blue are extremely oversaturated (especially the former).

Because the post-processing changes from chapter to chapter, you also have to change the values accordingly. It's simply too much of a hassle.

The ENB for RE5 does not allow for proxy libraries, so that's not a solution either.
