2013 Thread of Game Gifs (prepare your bandwidth)

FreeSpace 2, a game of TAG (hitting an enemy with a TAG missile brings the the full power of your support cruiser's flak and anti-fighter beams to bear against it with deadly accuracy)

I don't understand how some of the gifs in here can so smooth and have so good quality.

Anyway, here's my first try at making one. I don't like the dithering and I have no idea how I can get rid of it but keep the file size small.

Dithering makes the file size bigger, just a heads up.

But sometimes, you just can't have a really great looking, small, smooth GIF because there are just too many colors in the scene. For example with yours, the rotating red light pretty much doubles the number of colors you need for the GIF to look right, because you need the normal color of the room, plus the color of the room in the red light.

It's tough working with 256 colors when you really want it to look great.

Yeah, still cant believe that after so many years we dont have new standard based on h.264 compression or something similar.

Ps. Anyone knows new site for gifs? Minus limit is now 15mb ...

I've been using Flickr for images larger than 15mb

Thanks, didn't know about the effect colors could have. I'll keep trying out some stuff and see if I can figure this stuff out because I love me some sexy gifs.

Damn, looks next-gen.

And yet that is mostly medium settings with very high textures. :P

Those Freespace 2 gifs are so good, it's a shame that Volition is shackled to Saint's Row for the foreseeable future.

Did we ever find out what happened to the "legacy" titles in the THQ implosion?

I think so... I want to go back through it just to make sure. I remember being like: Whoooooa, and I dont remember checking my framerate to see if it was going all over the place or not.

EDIT: OH SHIT IT IS.
Starts @ 12:00

That's console footage though, as it was the first I could find, so theres a LOT of missing post (like all that smoke and dust at the bottom of the dish)

At first glance I mistook this for Aliens. You can imagine my disbelief, which I'm glad was reassured in the end.

I shot this at over 60fps so that I could add that cool slow mo effect when the dragon lands.
