2014 FIFA World Cup |OT7| Krul luck for Costa Rica after masterstroke from van Gaal

Thread title sucks, NL was superior the entire match. The statistical difference is insane.

Fuck Costa Rica for forcing the penalties with their anti-football, justice was served.

It is really weird though, the BBC I think did a bit about it in the pregame yesterday. It's completely alien to any European to root for 'uefa'. It just doesn't make sense to support a country just because they're in the same confederation. Which in CONCACAFs case is a pretty corrupt and shitty one.

the BBC are total hypocrites. I don't give a shit about CONCACAF but

I remember all the same stuff about "oh Ghana's the last African team in the cup, do it for Africa," etc. etc. really patronizing, reductive garbage from all the big media outlets in 2010, even more so once Suarez's handball happened. it was shrill and so fucking annoying.

God, what an awful match. I can't blame Costa Rica but shit, 115 minutes of pure boredom. Based Van Gaal, Based Krul, deserved win.

Amen. See them celebrating right before the Pks even started? Glad they lost.

WRONG.

are we, tv-watchers, part of those teams now? I'm glad I won then. I just hope they start sending me the checks I rightfully deserve for being a part of the team.

I'll probably sue though since I didn't get the correct uniform

Is this the first time you watch football or are you just obnoxious on purpose? Ever heard of the tearm "12th man"?

Yes, every single fan of a national ANY team of ANY sports EVER refers to themselves as part of the team.

As a neutral, its hard to deny the possible drama of a Brazil-Argentina final. Two historical powers and rivals playing in the Maracana with Leo Messi looking for the final jewel in his proverbial crown.

Still from strictly a football perspective, you'd think that the two European teams would produce a better contest.

Jeebbus fuck, look at the final four for each World Cup and 1 of the Final Four this Cup is in one of the other Final Fours for the previous Cups.

There's a reason why only eight teams have won WCs in the history of the competition. It's not a tournament that tends to favor upsets and underdogs. Eventually quality rises to the top and these four teams have all been consistently good (or at the very least contenders) for a long time.

Props to Costa Rica for making it this far, made it out of a tough groupstage, beat Uruguay. No minor feat.

I understand yet despise their style against the Dutch though, and I am glad we managed to win. I think I aged 10 years during those penalties.

also KRUL!!!

I was rooting against them, but CRC employed the same (valid) tactics as Greece (sans our counters :p).

People calling it anti-football are ignoring the qualitative differences between CRC and NED (aka 'reality'). They survived 2h against the better team, that's always an achievement.

meanwhile @ Argentina

Yeah because Argentina lit up a bus parking squad earlier...oh wait, they beat Iran 1-0 with an injury time goal. Netherlands have scored 12 goals in 4 games compared to Argentina's 7 goals going into the quarter finals. Where the Dutch have faced Spain, Chile, Australia, and Mexico. Argentina on the other hand got to face such pellinial giants of football in the likes of Bosnia, Iran, Nigeria, and Switzerland. They beat each of those teams by a single goal. Excuse me if I don't shake in fear of the fabled Argentinian squad of doom.

man, that was so intense.... penalties are heart-sport ;___;

krul was amazing :> lvg made crazy decisions that paid off like whoa tonight

the next two matches gonna be so fun. classic match ups <3333 im so gonna be a wreck at work next week lol

Congrats to Netherlands. We all knew they were the better team from the start and it was incredibly tough for a team that obviously doesn't have the experience or personnel that the dutch have, but I can't shake the bad taste in my mouth from the two clear penalties the ref didn't give us during the 90 minutes.

Rooting for NL to take it all though. They have always been my favorite international team other than my country.

Name and comment does not compute.

There's a reason why the NCAA Tournament always ends the same way too.
