2014 Microsoft E3 Conference

But NTKRL said there'd be more. There was nothing outside of PD which was already heavily rumored. What the heck happened?

Maybe that stuff is too far out, and it had to be pushed out of the conference? Phil Spencer did say some stuff was getting pushed out of the conference, makes sense to push out the stuff that is too early to show/announce. I was hoping they'd show some of those types of titles, though.

I'm on #teamcontrolledleak but now starting to doubt it. Also disappointed no white Xbox One.

Serious question: how can you still be on #teamcontrolledleak after this conference? It basically ruined their entire show (from a surprises, perspective, that is. It was still a very solid showing as far as content goes).

Definite system seller with Halo 1-4

No way in hell are HD upgrades a system seller...I'm a complete Halo fanboy and while that was my most exciting moment of the conference, its not gonna convince me to buy an Xbone...

Halo 5 + Forza 6 next year will do it though...and I'll pick up The Master Chief Collection on the cheap...

I can't find my previous post in this thread so idk if it went through since I'm on mobile...

But if it didn't..

Grade: B or 7/10

Notes:

- Did what they needed to do and focused on games...no Kinect, no TV, no cloud...
- Sunset Overdrive looked cool
- Halo looked awesome
- Forza Nurburgring announcement did not need to be on stage (complete filler)
- Horizon looked good, but I wanted to see more
- Too much focus on multiplatform games that are going to look/perform better on the other console
- Fable looked cringeworthy bad IMO
- The Platinum Games...game..can't even remember the name, didn't do anything for me
- Crackdown looked cool, but not a system seller...

I think overall it was a good show and Phil Spencer was true to his word that it'd be all about the games. Loved that they just jumped from one game to another. But the fact that nearly everything was leaked prior to this definitely dampened the excitement for me. I think they did enough to convince me to get a Xbox One without a doubt, but interested to see what Sony has up their sleeve. Since there's hardly any leaks for Sony, I'm expecting to be more excited to see what they unveil now.

They announced games that won't be out till 2016. I don't think they have any issues announcing things too early.

There's something about the Halo re-releases that irks me. It's this centerpiece of their conference, and people are going ape shit over it, yet it's something PC gamers have been doing for years: bumping up the resolution and if a fan is so inclined, releasing an updated texture pack.

What does it say about the industry when a 10 year old game is a show stopper?

The inclusion of all the media features on XB1 with Kinect is what made it appealing to me, yes i want games too. But I love the original vision of the device the XB1.

This conference just focused on games and to some it was a disappointment, others it was good. But when you just focus on games like everyone was yelling at MS to do, the X1 just isn't that appealing.

Halo....Halos everywhere

That was an alright conf. They pretty much showed games all the way as they said. But nothing was really exciting.

Sony can win E3 easily if they play it right

GTA V - timed exclusive 2014
TLG
Proj. Beast
No CG BS trailers

If they do this, it will be over.

Win E3 for you. Not everyone likes what you like.

I am 99% off the team at this point. 1% of me thinks it might have been a desperate measure gone wrong.

Yes, but my point was that they didn't announce everything for 2015, and beyond. You don't actually think that's all they have, right? Which means Ntkrnl wasn't exactly wrong about what he said (although, I'm a little sad that there wasn't too much announced outside his leaked stuff).

I'm thinking they were pretty selective in what they showed for the early stuff/early announcements. Especially since they only had 90 minutes (and it looked like about 60 minutes into the show is in when they made the switch from 2014 stuff to 2015 and beyond stuff)

this is what happens when things get leaked... you get disappointed and you are only setting yourself up for disappointment. Blame the leakers.

I am beyond disappointed. I even went to their Pre E3 event because I am such a big MS fan. More than half of the show was all 3rd party games that have already been announced.

Evolve, Witcher 3, Call of Duty, The Division, Assassins Creed, Tomb Raider, etc. Stop wasting our time. Last years press conference was amazing and was all about exclusives and gameplay. This one was all about 3rd party multiplatform games and CG.

I bought my Xbox One on day one entirely based off of last years conference. This one makes me feel like I don't have much to look forward to. Bring back Banjo, Battletoads, or Conker, don't just tease us.

Fable Legends looked awful too. Overdrive looks great as always. As for the Platinum games thing, I can't judge it since it was all CG. Crackdown and Phantom Dust are too oddball for me, I see much more demand for Rare IPs than either of those.

Phil Spencer and Major both let us down.

You must be hating your avatar, too.

:/

It says 343 Studios can't fill Bungie's shoes, and that's cause for concern for Halo fans.

Sony can show a 40 minute conference of WonderBook: VR bogaaloo and the last guardian for Vita at the end and they will think Sony Murdered Microsoft!!.

Fanboys will undermined anything Microsoft does. Also God this EA conference sucks.

No, it's just MS set expectations too high and delivered mostly multiplats that will play better elsewhere and CGI trailer for games that are years out. You don't get why that's disappointing?

Beats me. I saw no such thing, yet we had a massive thread speculating on what it might be lol

That thread man. Fallout 4, ME4, etc. Good stuff.

I would say that huge megathread about which third party game MS had got full exclusivity for, did more damage than any leak.

Fallout 4! GTAV! Mass Effect

What a load of bollocks, get a grip. I guarantee Sony will be getting a kicking from some, and praise from others, with an even mix of hype! and meh by the time their conference ends.

That doesn't mean they announced every game coming out until 2016.

Pretty much.

Eh, you could have gotten Kinect+game for 430ish range last month, probably still can right now.
Why get an inferior SKU without a Kinect for 400?
It's not just a money thing or getting "a good deal" (tho that's a small part of it, I can certainly afford an Xbox One right now). It's the premise that the kinect will no longer play as big of a role as MS originally wanted it to. Had they dropped the kinect bundle to $400 I still wouldn't have bought it, even if I could turn around and sell the pos peripheral and make some money back.

Sunset OD looks amazing. COD looks good but I think they need to show MP at this point. Excited for crackdown but it might be 2016. The witcher looks great but I'll get that on PS4. No interest in playing old Halo games.

A lot of people thought it wasn't really a great presser. Especially not after Phil Spencer's hyping. It was solid. Nothing more.
It has nothing to do with "undermine everything MS does".

MS really doubled down on its 18-35 male demographic and its established IPs including resurrections from the original Xbox.

I think why people aren't hyped is that, aside from Halo and Forza, many people weren't really excited for Crackdown and Phantom Dust the first time around, so for people who wanted to be sold on the platform, it was deflating. MS is trying to sell its IP brand power with games that don't have much of that to offer.

Followed the live blog, and for every one claiming Microsoft would own E3 all I have to say is the day is young, but I'm not too impressed.

Just watched most of the trailers.... cue Donald "everything was CG."

Platinum has me intrigued, Halo collection doesn't do much for me, but I'll buy it, Phantom Dust could be cool, but the trailer tells me nothing, Crackdown should be goofy fun, Sunset Overdrive looks ballin, Ori looks cool, the one by the Limbo people looks okay... and that's it, really. Spark looks like hot garbage.

Seems like it was the "giant buildings getting destroyed in beautiful CG" conference. Where was the "big" third party exclusive?

Kinda shitty we knew everything from the leaks, but even if I hadn't, this conference still wouldn't have been amazing. 7/10, 4 from it being all about games, 3 for the actual content.

Enough for me to be really happy I have an Xbox One, but not enough that I'd be super jealous if I didn't. SO is still my most hyped game, though the promise of a Platinum MonHun/DMC is almost too much to take!

May I ask why so many of you are disappointed by third party games being shown at the conference? It's important to associate your platform with all games. Not every consumer knows it'll be multiplatform.

In a perfect world the conferences would be all first party games for us hardcore fans, but that's not a very smart business decision.
