2014 Microsoft E3 Conference

What's with the excitement for Crackdown? Has everyone forgotten how awful the second game was? I loved the original but my hype is in check until I see gameplay.

Also duck Phantom Dust, that game was garbage.

Man, totally awesome. Good thing I had sort of a media blackout before the conference, so I was pleasantly surprised at all of the offerings. Super job, Microsoft!

I just got off work, Phantom Dust (HOLY SHIT) and Scalebound (HOLY SHIT).

But other than that, how was the conference? Gonna go around gathering data now for the E3 summary topic, but just want a general impression of any big news I missed other than the two above. (I know Tomb Raider was announced, but fuck modern Tomb Raider)

So Multiplat games aren't games now
, well done for that post. Microsoft will never do right in the eyes of some. Like when Sony showed indie game, ohhhh I forgot those are considered games. They showed plenty of exclusives. As I think Sony will too

Who said they aren't games? They are games, games that I will buy on PS4. At an MS conference where they should be focused as much as possible on making their console stand out, that's not good. A lot of people are looking for reasons about why they should jump into the X1. Multiplats don't offer said reasons. You get it?

They are games, yes, but why would I play them on xbox one? Ps4 will have the better version.

A straight conference but pretty much every conference other than Sony's last year caps out at straight or decent enough for me.

I don't like shooters so most of it was whatever. Dragon Age looked cool. I like the idea that Phantom Dust is coming back and that Kamiya is doing a game but I've always found non-gameplay trailers to be a completely worthless thing. I care about how the game is when I playing it. You could watch a CGI trailer for solitaire that makes it seem like the action packed and mind blowing title ever created game ever created. Plus if there's no gameplay to show it makes me think gameplay is either ass and marketing know showing that would drive people away or the title is so far off and pie in the sky that there is nothing of worth to be shown.

There were some indie games that seemed cool. The sneaky thing that looked like Limbo, something that was totally black and white, and another game that I think was black and white but had someone doing like a Bayonetta air juggle on someone.

Decent enough conference though. People like shooters and stuff and there was a bunch of that. I'm a weirdo though. My tastes do not align with the general public and I look forward to watching conferences knowing full well that there will be almost nothing I'll actually want to play in them.

There seems to be many people who thought this was a good conference. That's the problem. It was just good. We wait for these every year. I'm not looking for good, I'm looking for amazing with a side of megatons. Microsoft didn't set the bar very high for Nintendo and Sony this year.

There were no real megatons I think.

Them not mentioning Kinect or the Cloud once (I didn't notice it if they did) said more than their entire conference games lineup.

Microsoft is hurt badly, I think - and this conference didn't do much to help them heal.

It was games games games, nothing wrong with that, but where's their vision? Their goals?

This conference was very un-Microsoft.

If I were looking to get an Xbox One, I'd be looking at actual reasons to why I might want one. They presented exactly two games:Crackdown and that new Platinum game. For Phil
"GAMES GAMES GAMES" Spencer, I was expecting more exclusive content because that you cannot remotely possibly get on the desktop or PS4.

If you already had an Xbox, I guess its OK. If you don't have an Xbox, it was a garbage conference that gives you little reason to get one unless you must have that Halo Collection pack.

They presented more than exactly two games, and I'm not talking third party. Whether or not you like them is a different story.

So what do we expect Sony to show? The same multiplayer games? If so, then damn. Of course a few exclusives, but damn.

But whatever, show me pie charts.

If Sony have something from Rockstar that would be huge, or a new Fallout. Realistically, we'll see Destiny, some VR stuff, PS Now, indies and first party stuff we know about. Maybe a couple of small surprises.

Well paced conference with some nice nods like Playdeads new game and Ori and The Blind Forest.

Sony was in a pretty bad situation, but they had a strong global presence to survive on. MS has no such thing, they needed to get people buying X1s now, and E3 was their chance.

Don't get me wrong, Platinum's game is something I'm looking forward to, I'll likely buy an X1 for it but if it's coming out in 2016, it's irrelevant now, when MS most needs it.

Nothing in the conference makes me say "I need an X1 this year". A remake, SO, and Forza Horzion 2 (I'll settle for the 360 version this year), and inferior multiplats. MS needs exclusives to differentiate themselves.

I guess it's what you are looking for in the conference. You not having a X1, you want MS to show why I should buy it now not later. Me owning a X1 and PS4 I want them show me why I own them right now. Your point is fair, but I think it's way to early for these company bust open all these first party studio exclusives

You're gonna love the Sunset Overdrive trailer. It's great. The Halo Collection is pretty amazing as well. ntkrnl really hurt anything being a surprise, though.

Crackdown was announced, there was lots of CG. I thought it was a good presser, but the leaks hurt them something fierce. Without those, it would have been a much better presser. As it stands, it felt relatively safe with no real bombs.

Oh and there's some spectacular DLC for Dead Rising 3.

I missed it, but doesn't seems like the flood of games that was hyped, and Gaf is still up. Leaks really take the air out of E3 these days.

But whatever, show me pie charts.

Sony said last year that SCE would publish 20 games, with 12 new IPs in the ps4's first year. maybe they'll actually show some of those.

Seems like they focused on games, regardless of the sources, and offered a fairly diverse showing. My only complaint would be in seeing pre-rendered only trailers titles that have been rumored for ages now (Scalebound, Crackdown, etc.). Seems like relative to how long the grapevine has been buzzing about them, there should more progress to show than pre-rendered stuff.

The good news is they haven't been puffing their chest out talking about games games games. Project Beast alone is big, so hopefully they have some surprises to go with it. If it's just Last of Us, Uncharted 4, and multiplatform stuff I'll be disappointed.

If you read the leaks on this forum, you were never really shocked. It was the spoiler effect in full force. It was boring for me.

Read his quote again. It was games regardless whether they are multiplatform or not, so it was a 'games, games, games' conference. And your comment on reasons why you must buy their machine is up to you, I love Forza Horizon, I love Halo and I like Crackdown, so maybe its not your cup of tea, but let's not pretend like their conference had no exclusives. Not all games is for everyone and by reading some people's comments I could swear Microsoft's conference was super bad.

I'd give it a solid 6.5. Big improvement over the negativity of the last E3 which was refreshing to see. If Microsoft keeps XBox alive, I think this leadership will make a much better box next-gen. That, to me, was the big positive takeaway for this conference.

I think Sunset Overdrive is the star for MS, but sadly, it's not enough. MS needs more true exclusives now that they are not the best place to play third-party games anymore. Hopefully they are addressing that need, but it obviously doesn't happen overnight.

I hoped/expected Crackdown to be announced. As a huge fan of the first game, I thought I'd be more excited though. I need to see something more to convince me they are back on track. I didn't get that here. To me, this is the same way I felt when Insomniac burned me from RFOM to Resistance 2. I continue to hope, but I firmly realize that can lead to disappointment.

I don't really get the hype for the Platinum game.

I don't know. Maybe I fell into the "...but Microsoft has the GAMES!" hype. I didn't see it, and I expected more on the exclusives side.

The BEST thing about the MS conference was that it was nothing but GAMES, from start to finish.

That was what they needed. That's what they did and Phil Spencer is definitely the right guy for the job.

Is it me or does Sunset overdrive look like Insomniac just put ratchet and clank, and resistance together... and then tossed in token charismatic white skater dude for added perceived cool factor. I thought both the parent games were cool, but didn't enjoy playing either. I'm very skeptical of Sunset overdrive.

Well, a pretty solid show. No real megatons but then again Platinum game and Halo got leaked. At least the Platinum game would have been a huge suprise (wasn't the first "leak" for Platinum exclusive from cboat?) Without the leaks more people probably give a 9/10.

Shows how serious they take Sony and their will take to get back on the "games" part instead of selling the best multimedia device.

Good show MS.

So many games and some gems like Scalebound and an awesome new look at Sunset. Also great gesture by bringing back fan favorite games such as Crackdown and Phantom Dust. I was exhausted by how many games they were throwing at me, twas fun.

It looked more like a cartoony Infamous to me.

New IPs
Resogun
Knack
Drive Club
Hohokum
Doki-Doki Universe
Playroom
Helldivers
The Order 1886 (delayed)
Rime (delayed)

Sequels
InFamous
MLB
Last of Us Remastered
Killzone Shadow Fall

Looks like they've already shown at least 9 of the 12 new IPs and at least 13 of the 20 games, and that's from memory for me. I'm sure people who actually pay attention to Sony could pretty easily come up with a handful more.

Good luck ever creating a game that doesn't bear a resemblance to another series.

I don't get this.

It feels like if not all of this shit was leaked that it would be pretty awesome news...no wonder they're unhappy with the leakers.

I don't really get the hype for the Platinum game.

Platinum has a very vocal fan base. Also, it helps that they generally make fantastic games, even if they don't sell very well.

Overall from what I saw this year looked like a massive improvement over last year's shameful display. Looking forward to see how Sony turns up the heat and how Nintendo does what Nintendoes.

Wow was EA's presser pretty damn boring. That was a serious stinker, I almost fell asleep 3 times during it.

To the people upset that there were no big surprises for Microsoft, don't forget you are on a website that usually is good at spoiling those big surprises. I feel they showed a great array of games for different fans. Sure there were multiplats, but I can guarantee you Sony will have some too. I hope Sony brings their A game tonight!
