Awesome! I've been checking every day for restock news. I'm glad I'll be able to order one soon!

How much do these cost in dollars?

Planners cost around $20 for the original size, $30 for the large, A5 size. Covers range from $12 to the stupidly expensive leather covers at $300. Shipping averages to around $12.

As a general rule of thumb, if you see a JPY price you can usually get an estimate for how expensive it is by taking the last two digits off. So, say, 3740JPY would be, roughly, $37. Right now though, the exchange rate in favor of the Dollar over the Yen, so 3740JPY would come out to $31.

Yay! Got my Techo with the Earthbound cover today. Now I just need to figure out what to do with it since I'm petrified of sketching with a pen.

I checked the status of mine a bit ago and it still says "In customs". I really hope I don't have to go pick it up. I got it delivered to work to specifically avoid that.

wow this looks amazing. seems pretty similar to a MUJI calendar I got recently, but better put together.

I'm pretty tied to my google calendar at the moment, but it seems useful to have somewhere to write things that span multiple months/weeks

Hey actually, do updates stop showing up after it leaves customs? Is it then USPS's item, and therefore doesn't show up under Japan Post's tracker any more?

My EMS shipment tracking has always proceeded beyond the customs exit.
Normally after leaving Chicago it take ~2 days for the tracker to show that it was in processing at the delivery post office then a bit longer to go to final delivery.

I'm in the same boat as you with my Techo, though, still waiting for an update after it left customs. :p

Mine went from "Departure from inward office of exchange" to "Processing at delivery Post Office" (X2) before the knock on the door.

Hmm. Well, Saturday was when it showed up in customs and I'm sure they weren't open Sunday, so I'm probably just being too impatient. Hopefully by the end of the week, though.

I don't understand the Usps tracking. It says "Processed Through Sort Facility
ISC LOS ANGELES CA (USPS) " then under status of item it has "We have received notice that the originating post is preparing to dispatch this mail piece."

Does that mean it hasn't left Japan?

No one understands USPS tracking, because USPS tracking hardly exists

I only paid attention to EMS tracking. Strange you haven't received your yet... maybe it's being in LA proper versus me living south?

Setting up my payment and shipping details so I can just click through on my phone tonight. Going to use my card with a foreign transaction fee, though..

Thanks for nothing, Discover

is the cover of the planner (the english one) leather or is it just some kind of faux thing? It doesn't look like leather to me but I can't quite tell from the pictures I've seen.

http://www.1101.com/store/techo/2015/planner/detail_cover/c_hpr.html

still not sure if I want that or to import the japanese one since the todo/hours markers on the day pages seem a lot better

edit: to be clear I mean the cover of the actual book, not the cases.

It is just a textured material to give the appearance of leather.

There's a pretty neat interview with Sonya Park, who designed the english Hobonichi, which explains some of her thoughts on why the design is different from the JP edition.

I got mine today! I went for the navy cover. I kind of like how it's understated. I'm sure I'll pick up more covers in the future.

I also made my first entry about what I did on Saturday.
The Marigold cover just got back in stock so I ordered one + an original Techo for my wife. When I was trying to choose my cover she mentioned she liked that one.

I love the design of the English one.

By the way, everyone, do you use the clear plastic cover protector? I don't really like the look of it :/. I wonder how long these nylon covers last without it.

Those all look great! I feel bad that my Hobonichi is all text at this point. I need to get some images in there. My friend mentioned getting a cheap Polaroid to stick little pictures in there. I have so many ideas to have more fun with my Hobonichi (and I already love it!).

The clear cover on cover looks totally yucko to me. It's like wrapping your furniture in plastic or something. I get trying to preserve nice things, but they sort of cease to be as nice if they're covered in plastic.

The nylon case feels pretty sturdy to me. My Hobonichi still looks nice and fresh after banging around in my bag for a couple of months. I'll see how it holds up with heavier use as the year goes on.

Team no case on case.

I've been reading about the Techo pretty intensely over the last few days. I've never really kept a journal but I'm always making doodles in note books at work and writing down thoughts here and there.

But it'd be just like me to spend $50-$60 on something cool and fail to use it.

So I'm going feauxbonichi route this year and if it works out, if I keep up with it semi-regularly, I'm going whole-hog with a 2016 edition next year.

Cool, I'm not alone in Team no case on case :). When I was looking up techos online I saw a lot of people with the plastic cover on.

Yeah, I've been trying to figure out how I can get pics I actually take in there. The pics I put in are from the pamphlet that I happened to still have. I'm going to keep my eyes open for a cheap, easy to use photo printer.

Wow, the Navy case actually looks really good. I might get it over the Black case.

Edit: It's sold out too. I guess I'll wait for a restock. Still hoping to get this before February.

I was going to go for the black at first but ended up getting the navy. I'm glad I did since the color is really nice. It's fairly dark, more like my second picture than the first.

Edit:
Got my order in but had to try like three different cards lol

Nice! What case did you go for?

I was doing bar trivia and literally stepped out so I could put the order it when it restocked, lol. Set an alarm and everything

Yeah, I ended up with the Black one. The Navy looked great, but I felt the Black would stand out less (I don't like people wanting to see my planner lol)

I was really considering the Navy. I tend to enjoy muted, understated colors. I usually don't have time for flashy designs. But the combination of the specific red with the light tan on the Apple just looked really... nice, so I ended up pulling the trigger on that instead. Good to see the Navy 'in person' though, it looks how I had hoped it would be.

Ah, Apple was the first cover that caught my eye since I'm really partial to red. Did you get it already? How's it look? I was worried it would be too bright.

Still waiting for it to ship, unfortunately. I was hoping it would be included in the stuff that restocked today, but alas the wait for whatever "late January" means continues.

I have to admit I am a little worried about it being too bright for my liking. But the way I saw it, I already have a Rhodia pad on my desk which is blindingly orange. A little red won't hurt me!

Haha, yeah. I bet it'll look real good. I'm curious to hear your impression when you get it. Hopefully it ships soon!
