2015 PC Screenshot Thread of the Only Place Where Compression Isn't

The reshade tweak also works with Crysis 3. How convenient.

And just because I was interested in seeing if ReShade would work on old, old games, here it is with circular bokeh depth of field, DPX, gaussian anamorphic lens flares, SSAO and a few more other shaders... with 2003's Jedi Academy, one of my favourite games of all time, a game that I played every single day with barely any exceptions from 2003 to 2011.

I think you'd be better off running the game at a native 21:9 resolution than covering up parts of the screen with black bars. Crysis 3 definitely supports that. I have a 2560x1440 monitor, but can play at 2560x1080 with a custom resolution. Or 3840x1620 if I feel like tanking my frame rate :)

Good point, I will remake some custom resolutions later and disable DSR.
Also, I would love to se screens from your comp with the tweak on. You could easily pull 4K and above in these games. I am terribly terribly terribly VRAM limited.

I tried your ReShade in Crysis and I find it way too blurry with Grain + CA + FXAA and I personally can't play with it enabled. It's still a very nice preset for those "film like" shots. Those C3 screens are nice too but that CA is way too much and has to go imo...

I must admit I am posting these in a rather tongue and cheek manner, ;D

Definitely going to tone down the CA a bit, for some reason it is XXX more apparent in Crysis 3 in comparison to Crysis 1. I wonder why... must be an art thing.

As usual I was changing settings constantly so you might not get the exact same results. Also these settings don't work well in some of the maps - the volcano map, for example, is blindingly bright in most places. I mean, ultimately it's an old game so there's no HDR or any tonemapping, which means that you should probably wear sunglasses if you're going to be using bloom and curves on some of the brighter maps.

Yeah :D CA in Crysis 3 is probably more apparent because Crysis 3 itself has CA enabled by default. You can disable it by adding this line in system or autoexec.cfg
r_ChromaticAberration = 0

Thanks a lot! I'll probably tone down a few of the settings anyway. For instance that DoF is a little too much for me. I can't play games where I feel like I need prescription glasses. I prefer a little more subtlety. I really like the look of those F.E.A.R. shots that people have been posting. That's almost perfect.

Sorta on topic, I plugged reshade into C3 to check it out, and while its nice I don't think I can bring myself to shoot the game again. With a timestop, the thppppbbbt art would still allow for some dynamic moments, but as of now I'm quite done with the surprising drabness they managed out of frigging JUNGLE NEW YORK CITY.

Which depth of field option is this? Also, do you have a good understanding of how to use manual depth of field? I am trying to get some near FOV depth of field to apply to the sights/reticle of the gun but leave the rest of the gun untouched. The god damn options seem to never do what I want them to do.

I've really been enjoying the flexibility of Marty McFlys own DoF solution MAGICDOF. I've been able to tweak DoF exactly how I like it.

Really loving the Reshade shots on older games, it's making my itch for a PC build grow. I've held off on getting some games to enjoy them at their best on PC one day so this tool looks like it could add a lot pop to some that may not have aged so gracefully. Would love some more Jedi Acadey shots, that game always interested me when I was younger and the FEAR shots have been great as well.

Oh yes, absolutely. I changed almost every shader's settings to be over the top just to prove to myself that they were all working together in a more or less acceptable way. If I were you I'd just turn depth of field off in Jedi Academy anyway, unless you want some static far DoF, because you move around so much and so quickly that the focus can very easily get lost constantly.

please share your settings. Like the file. I need to play C3 like this at least thrice.

Use a low curve for near DoF. Something like 1-2. Set a manual focus distance of 5. Then use a very very high curve for far DoF. Like 50. Just to disable it.

You should get good near DoF and no Far DoF. Trying to get them both working at the same time is very difficult.

I agree with Jim, though I'd suggest a manual focus distance of .5 (maybe he meant that?). Perhaps even lower, if you just want only the closest part of the gun out of focus. Its supposedly units in roughly meters.

This is all talking about GP65CJ042 DoF, which is a strong hit to FPS. So far, I haven't seen how to use Matso's DoF manually, though its much lighter to run, and I haven't tried Marty McFly's yet.

You could combine the two to have distant/autofocus DoF with Matso and always have the back of the gun out of focus, but you'd need some powah.

I use 4-5 a lot when I go for near DOF. I find that a distance of 1-2 will still miss a lot of what I'm trying to blur. I think it depends on what you're going for. I guess if it's just the gun model, then a smaller distance would be fine.

Marty's is very similar to GP6, but the distance is measured from 0 to 1, 1 being the farthest distance possible. I like both, and Martys magic DoF has way better performance at max quality. I Just like the look of GP6 a LITTLE bit better... and when I take screenshots, that's all I care about :P If i was worried about performance, I'd use magic DOF.

Nice! Somehow I didn't know there was a third act... played the first two around a year ago and it was amazing, they really nail the unsettling and surreal feel.

Holy crap those shots look awesome! But, what FPS you getting? And what are your specs? I'm interested in picking up DAI, but haven't due to lacking story and repetitive quests. If it looks this good, though...
Honestly it doesn't take too much, a quad-core CPU, at least 4gb of RAM and a decent card, I have a GTX 780 and it's running wonderfully.

Are you using your own SweetFX settings?
Yes it's my own custom SweetFX. Mainly it's DPX tweaks, tonemapping and light HDR.

And here's a Nug's Life:

looks so nice. wonder if my 970 can handle a 4k downsample + sparse grid AA. trying now!

edit: seems like I can't get both to work... either one or the other? sparse grid AA worked with 1080p, but once I edited the .ini to 1440p the aliasing came back. strange. i guess i'll go with 1080p + super AA.

Apparently SGSSAA only works at 720p and 1080p with REmakeHD for whatever reason. It wouldnt' be the first game to have strangely stupid issues like this.

Yeah, it has a really nice interface for collecting an storing. :( Shame it is acting stupid.

Ruins it for me :P

That's b/c C3 already has CA of it's own.. DOUBLE CA!

How does that end up working out performance wise and with the UI/HUD and all?

Got any gameplay footage? :D

Tongue in cheek or not, I think all of these shots have been incredibly cool and interesting.

It seems completely transformative. Keep it up duder.
Dammit :( I like their website interface so much. Eh, so i need to change host.
From memory - I used to really like Minus before it got crummy and I transitioned over the Stash. It is pretty similar. Drag and drop to easily upload. Can group into folders. It's easy to get the high res URL.

I'll check it, thanks

I've got to go and get some uni stuff done but I should be back soon. I'll record some footage and link you to it asap! Performance isn't great, but bare in mind that Jedi Academy is a pretty old OpenGL title that runs on the Quake 3 engine, so hacking in all this post-processing annihilates performance. I'm only getting around 40 FPS or so at 1280 x 1024 with no AA other than Reshade's FXAA... as opposed to 200+ at 1920 x 1080 with 4x SGSSAA - and that's with an oc'd GTX 670. So I might just record it in 720. :P

Also, the HUD is affected by the bloom and lens flares because it's super bright and colourful, but the postprocessing on the HUD isn't too bad and my eyes are trained to observe only the characters and the environment after years of improving my duelling skills. Still, if you want to you can turn the HUD off with cg_draw2d 0, although the kill feed and chat still shows up - an annoying issue, as the bots tend to talk to you and each other all the time; a cool feature for 2003, but now it's just distracting. Mind you, Jedi Academy isn't the kind of game I'm going to be taking really complex screenshots of anyway, because it's still rather ugly and really hasn't aged well. I was just using Reshade with it out of curiosity. Anyway, I'll be back in about two hours or so and then I'll see if I can get a video or something. :)

PS - mercenar1e, you can press F8 to take a HUDless screenshot in Outerra. They're saved in the game's root folder by default. Make sure you're saving them as 100% JPEGs or PNGs (you can change the settings in-game) or you'll get really low quality shots.
