2015 PC Screenshot Thread of the Only Place Where Compression Isn't

Some picturesque scenes.

This is using the "movie like" config I was talking about some time ago... ReShades screen function still doesn't capture everything correctly in some games, and in this case Metro Redux :( Still, this looks almost the same as ingame...

Good god, that looks incredible.

Regarding screenshots - have you tried using something else? I use MSI Afterburner to take screenshots because it seems to capture everything properly, whereas most methods seem to miss some effects, or even the entire post-processing injector you're using.

Thanks!
Well I took a screen using steam from the exact same spot but it turned out the same as this one... I currently have MSI AB so I guess I'll try that out next and see if it'll work out :)

BTW, Metro doesnt have aspect ratio correction so things that are not 16:9 will get squashed. I think you can kinda see it in the screen.

Use another host, like Flickr, your shots are compressed to hell and back. And save as PNG if you don't know how to do 100% jpeg.

Someone should be added as a mod for this thread only and his/her sole purpose shall be to bring justice to everyone who post compressed imgur screens.

But yeah, reading is hard I guess.

I will happily do it if it's possible, seeing as I check this thread around every 3-4 minutes while I'm browsing, because the amount of people not following the basic advice is getting ridiculous and out of hand. Most of the shots in the thread are now either compressed, shitty thumbnails linking to the full image, shitty thumbnails linking to the full image that can only be accessed by clicking multiple times on the external website, don't have the HUD turned off, are cutscene shots, aren't at all interesting/good, or all of the above.

The OP (and in fact the entire first page) says nothing about turning off the HUD being a requirement or cutscenes being forbidden. I personally don't mind either HUD shots or cutscene shots. It's especially nice that it's not forbidden since I prefer not to run mods on games, and mods may be required to disable HUDs. I thought that the artshot thread was for HUDless only, artistic, special effects, etc. shots, but perhaps I misunderstood.

Whether something is "interesting/good" is sort of subjective, since the only OP example given was that pointing out a bad texture in part of a game isn't so great.

Vampire, hilarious GTA shots.

Yeah of course. I'll upload them today. I'm trying to use MSI Afterburner to take screens and get all the effects to show up but I can't even get a fucking screenshot taken using AB... Well I've lost my hope in getting them show up so maybe someone else can...

Apologies for the last posts quality - these are PNG with flickr, please give me feedback if the quality is acceptable.

IQ seems fine but don't post your images as links...

The art shot thread is for screenshots that have been edited in post.

And no, this thread is not necessarily for interesting or even well-composed screenshots. Just high resolution with no compression. Some of us like the former, but I don't think it should be an expectation. I think screenshots are always better without the HUD though. Thta's really only useful for the player. Gets in the way if you're trying to show off visuals.

I'm not really a huge fan of cut scene shots myself. But I like exerting some control over the screenshots I take. I don't expect everyone to feel the same way about it.

What kind of PC Gamer are you??!

Far Cry 3's lighting is sublime

I think it looks.... ok at best. Like pretty much everything in that game.

Having the thread in Gaming again is both a blessing and a curse. New eyeballs and new posters is healthy for the thread, but bad if none of them reads the OP.

And yeah, nothing wrong with cutscene shots, as long as they are in-engine. And whether something is interesting or good is entirely subjective.

FC3 is not a bad looking game, but everything just looks so.. fake?

But then again, I'm not a huge fan of the little more stylized look that game has.

Alright, maybe I'm being a bit elitist, especially considering the quality of my own shots. But I'm sure you agree that it would be better if the average level of effort was higher. It takes no effort to press F12 during a cut-scene, and you're not showing anything that's really worth seeing in a screenshot thread if you haven't contributed anything to that shot. In fact, if it's a cut-scene with great graphics or an amazing set piece, chances are we've already seen it a million times in other screenshots, previews, trailers or Let's Plays. And that's just not interesting.

I like to believe that most people posting here have the potential to do some great stuff, even if it's just finding a good looking interior scene and downsampling, but I just don't see or understand the appeal in posting cut-scene shots without mods. You're not showing anything that you've done yourself, you're just essentially re-posting someone else's work with no changes whatsoever. It's not like I'm asking the world of people - just a bit of effort. And when you put in that small bit of effort, you end up feeling much better about your shots, too. But if you don't want to, then fair enough, it's your posts. I'm just sharing my opinion in the hopes of making the thread more interesting.
