2015 PC Screenshot Thread of the Only Place Where Compression Isn't

Still no patch to disable CA(Without killing other PP effects) in Dying Light eh? Shame, game seems relevant to my interests and looks pretty rad

Alright, maybe I'm being a bit elitist, especially considering the quality of my own shots. But I'm sure you agree that it would be better if the average level of effort was higher. It takes no effort to press F12 during a cut-scene, and you're not showing anything that's really worth seeing in a screenshot thread if you haven't contributed anything to that shot. In fact, if it's a cut-scene with great graphics or an amazing set piece, chances are we've already seen it a million times in other screenshots, previews, trailers or Let's Plays. And that's just not interesting.

I like to believe that most people posting here have the potential to do some great stuff, even if it's just finding a good looking interior scene and downsampling, but I just don't see or understand the appeal in posting cut-scene shots without mods. You're not showing anything that you've done yourself, you're just essentially re-posting someone else's work with no changes whatsoever. It's not like I'm asking the world of people - just a bit of effort. And when you put in that small bit of effort, you end up feeling much better about your shots, too. But if you don't want to, then fair enough, it's your posts. I'm just sharing my opinion in the hopes of making the thread more interesting.

Who the fuck cares? Aside from objective stuff like obeying the post limit, avoiding pre-rendered scenes, spoilers for new games, overly compressed images. Just IGNORE IT. You can just as easily keep on scrollin'.

Everything else is subjective and therefore is fair game. This is why we are still seeing samey-Skyrim shots. People are more than free to post whatever they want.

This is just a screenshot thread. Not "Screenshots that have to qualify as art" Thread.

Nope, none whatsoever, and I tried everything. I've sort of learned to live with it. You can try to cancel out some of the effect via ReShade. The lens pattern is so strange, however, that you can't get it all removed. The game's tonemapping is so spot on that you're really not going to want to do without it unless you like tweaking your ReShade for every changed scenario, or have it all look the same.

Yo Techland! Help us out here! We're dying in your chromatically aberrated light!

And yeah, the game is quite well-designed I must say. Really lovely stuff. The tonemapping can get even more interesting once you get smacked on the head (and freeze time just right), which is how I get the more outlandish lighting set-ups.
Ignore the hit-you-in-the-face motion blur on these if you will:

EDIT: I'd love access to the in-game tonemapping settings, for obvious reasons.

Yeah, looks much more coherent without the filmgrain. I think I am done with filmgrain for good.

Oh, that looks nice. I never even tried it without filmgrain... :)

Light in the second screen (and alt) was so hard to capture. I somehow managed to bug my flashlight through a wall from the opposite side of the room and the light from the flashlight kept flickering like crazy. I had to take 50 screens to capture it...
Took these using the same Metro ReShade preset :)

I'm aware of the old stuff but never k we this was a mod. Thanks for the links. Now to improve performance as even SLI 970's can't run this at 60 all the time.

It's your CPU that the game is hammering. When there aren't many characters around even my single 760 can maintain 60-120FPS at nearly max settings most of the time. Shit only goes down the drain when 100+ characters are interacting or there's a lot going on in the middle of a city. This game is the sole reason I plan to overclock, but there isn't a ton you can do as I understand.

ArmA is built on a fairly antiquated engine and apparently doesn't utilize more than two CPU cores so clock speed counts for a lot. On top of that the game is calculating the trajectory of every bullet over long distances instead of hitscanning everything, not to mention the complex AI. Lastly I hear RAM speed counts for a lot in this game too.

Draw distance seems to be the biggest individual factor in graphics settings. I usually keep mine below 1600.

I was pretty much biased against the Far Cry series having worthwhile lighting (seeing as Nick brought that up), but shots like these make me reconsider:
The Nvidia god rays do a decent enough job of presenting a pleasing looking effect at times but it is no substitute for a quality lighting system. These are cherry picked shots I'm using.

Can't you just use a different aspect ratio, create a custom resolution? Then you'd see the bars in-game, but the images wouldn't need them. Like this.

I prefer that. I think screenshots with letterboxing in them look bad. I always crop, even when injecting letterboxing for games where i cant use a custom resolution. But.... just my $.02.

I run an SLI rig and going to windowed mode (metro seems to have broken fullscreen aspect ratio scaling) causes scaling to break.

Hence. But yeah, no reason to waste performance on those bars if you can.

Yeah, if you're going for the high pixel density, you'd better not be rendering a lot of them only to cover them up with black bars in post processing. That's just retarded. Also, you can run a game in fullscreen, not windowed, if you set up a custom resolution / aspect ratio combo and set up your desktop scaling right.

Of course there's no law against going about it in a wasteful manner, but... yeah, it's good to try out different options.

Welcome to the NEW Far Cry 3 now with added Mastereffect reborn Reshade, bloom and technicolor enhancements! I know I know..no need to tell me the lighting now looks even more awesome..you can thank me later naysayers hehe :--p

Did I tell you I LOVE PC GAMING AND MODDERS? I'm fairly new to PC gaming but since I got my LG34UM95 and a decent spec pc I've never looked back at my PS4! Reason I gloat about Far Cr 3 so much even though I'm aware it's a last gen game and there are plenty of next gen games on these forums that some of you guys are taking incredible shots of, is because I played about a quarter of the way thru Far Cry 3 on the PS4. I hated the hand holding and ugly as hell HUD so I gave up..but then I discovered the beauty that PC gaming is and man oh man I don't know why I waited this long! Being able to customize not only the visuals but the interface too..I'm in HEAVEN. Enough banter! Here it is in all it's 1440p ultrawidescreen glory.

Would you mind listing out the various mods you have installed to achieve that level of quality? Crazy looking.

I'm looking forward to the 2016 PC Screenshot Thread of Stop Asking Unreal for their Skyrim Mod List

a.) I searched the thread and the results I was getting were for other games
b.) This is my first time in the thread and therefore my first time seeing his screens
c.) The thread is 25 pages long, give me a break for not knowing that this is a common request .__.

From a few days ago

That's true, i'm not going to release every ENB settings i tweak for every screenshot as i don't keep them for myself...

I use Opethfeldt's ENB as a base.

It is just a VERY common request

I think he/she was just kidding(I hope) but I'm all for sharing and hey nothing wrong with asking. That's why we're all here, to share and get our games looking as good as possible to enhance our experiences. More importantly you made an effort to do a search..well I hope that made you feel all warm and fuzzy inside..hehe.

Thanks, it's Far Cry 3 believe it or not :)

I don't wanna bash but imo that doesn't even come near Crysis. FC3's lighting has always looked like plastic and there's not much one can do about it. Even the "next gen" FC4 has that "fake" kinda look. Don't get me wrong, nice screens but FC3's lighting good? Not

I'm trying to use steam's screenshot tool as well as radeon pro to get reshaded shots of Tomb Raider, but all I'm getting are unprocessed shots. Anyone have any other ideas?

By unprocessed you mean that ReShades postprocessing effects aren't showing in your screens? Try using ReShades default screenshot option "printscreen"

I know it's not a very popular thing to say, and I'm certainly not trying to be snooty, merely helpful (in a somewhat haughty kind of way) but if you just search for:

'Unreal Skyrim mod list'

...you'll get more information than you'll ever get here.

But anyone asking for the mods Unreal is using probably doesn't know that Unreal has a website dedicated to the mods they're using..

Just as a general PSA, Steam does not capture any post processing stuff. It didn't with SweetFx either, and I don't think it will with any other method.

Still the first thing I would do as it would maybe even net me a forum post where this was being discussed. Also you can use forum search options. I know asking is easier, but it's kinda not good form. I always feel: search first, then ask. But hey, that's me.

Now, with all my whining, I just have to add an appropriate picture.

FYI, you can set up ReShade to output to bitmap as well as peng, by adding this line somewhere:
#pragma reshade screenshot_format bmp
I personally prefer Dxtory to get my shots.

If using MasterEffect, you can search for the beginning of the line below and add the toggle function to be able to switch it on or off. YOU decide if it's on or off on launch. Two examples:

technique MasterEffect < bool enabled = 0; int toggle = 0x23;> //END key to toggle effect, defaults to disabled on launch and save
technique MasterEffect < bool enabled = 1; int toggle = 0x2D;> //INS key to toggle effect, defaults to enabled on launch and save

Your version of the file might use words for the boolean switch (false/true), although I think it works either way.

Oh dude, thanks for this. I've been beating my head against my desk trying to figure out why the toggle keys weren't working. Huge help.
