2015 PC Screenshot Thread of the Only Place Where Compression Isn't

Alright Nick, I don't like to complain, but I think you should try and be a bit more selective over the shots you post here. You seem to be posting the same sort of shots from Far Cry 3 over and over and then filling up three posts in a row with them over and over.

Find a few select shots that you think stand out instead of posting seemingly every screen you take.

EDIT: Screen so I'm not just bitching without contributing:

Far Cry 4

The Order is amazing IMO. Aside from the lack of texture filtering on all surfaces, nothing on consoles has ever come so close to basically perfect IQ with what i've seen so far as the best AA and temporal quality on games ever on consoles. It even does CA reasonably well (To the point I don't mind). Which says a LOT. These guys aren't idiots.

It's definitely not for everyone (Especially the "Everything has to be 100% ultra sharpness!" Crowd And people who hate wide aspect ratios that are letterboxed like in film). But it's god damned nice.

Also: That GTA IV shot above. Dear gawd, excellent composition
Has someone some tips for better AA ?

If you have an Nvidia card you can do this (Needs AA fix) + downsampling.

If you have an AMD card, downsampling (Using GeDoSaTo) + SMAA is probably going to be the best you'll get.

To be fair, Far Cry 3 is incredibly samey. Its world is completely forgettable because everywhere you go it looks the same. There are 3 shades of green for grass, 2 shades of green for trees, and everything else is the same beige sand/dirt and blue sky/ocean. There's not really very much you can do with Far Cry 3 for screenshots, other than "hey look at this cool grass density and fire propagation".

Anyway...

First of all I'd like to know if you are you a moderator?

If not..then please don't suggest what I should do, plain and simple. Nobody is forcing you to look at my screens or anyone else's for that matter. As an FYI I take hundreds of shots per gaming session and I select the best ones. On average I'll take 5-10 shots of one scene and pick the best ones. I would also argue they are not the same shots over and over again.

Last of all I am obiding by the rules in the original post..so unless you're hiding another issue please don't hesitate to let me know..

Thanks in advance,

Nice shot btw...I can't wait to play Far Cry 4.

Nick

I guess I'm not the only one that thought we were seeing the same FC3 shots over and over again :P

I'm not about to tell people what to do though.

I don't think it was his intention to insult. They have been a lot of FC 3 shots recently now that he mentions it though.
Damn

Its just basic courtesy man. Most people are pretty good about not flooding the thread with comprehensive and indulgent chronicles of their entire playthrough of a game.

This thread typically takes some moments to load up and scroll through due to the constant large images posted throughout and its a nicer experience when you're seeing the picks of the litter rather than rummaging through the same sort of shot over and over.

It is just advice, though. I see you are not going to take it, so oh well. I tried.

For the record, I agree. I think that this rule....

  • Thinking: Think before you post. Is the screenshot really worth posting? Does anyone care about some ugly texture you found? No.
...supercedes these other two....

  • Limits: 2 screenshots per post. If you have more than 2, make more posts or use thumbnails.
  • Spamming: No more than 3 consecutive posts of the same game. Link to an album of your collection.
I mean I don't wanna sound like a dick since I haven't put in screens for a long time now (usually on my chromebook), but I'm a frequent visitor and I can get behind what you're saying, it's in the spirit of the OP. 3 consecutive posts is a limit not a quota.

Re: Homeworld.

Gearbox is fine with this so long as it's taken for what it is: an unofficial and unsupported hack.

Most of Relic's debug lua was deprecated by the time I got involved, so I hacked in a few things like incremental free camera control, camera tilt and FOV adjustment. I also had to add a hotkey for pausing the game as there was no way to hide the little 'Game Paused' label that pops up. The camera will still be locked to its focus object, but with a bit of patience you can get whatever angle you want.

The game does not 'hotsample' or, being OGL, support Gedosato. This limits you to driver-based custom resolutions or DSR. The way I got portrait shots was to rotate the camera... and my head.

I've fashioned this into a neat little Cheat Engine table and will post it when the game unlocks in - *checks* - oh, tomorrow. There's nothing to suggest it won't transfer to retail.

EDIT: Oh, and the game supports depth buffer-dependent shader effects in Reshade such as SSAO and DoF.

Excellent. Thank you so much!

I get what you're saying..I get a little too carried away with my own excitement at having visited certain areas and I'm inclined to share those with everyone as well as my customized settings for the mods. Sure..I'll be a bit more selective given that it does take a while to load up at times.

Jim still hating on everything Unreal posts. Getting old really.

"Hating" is nothing short of an idiotic term. Sorry. Jim has all the right in the world to comment on an objective fact: the vast majority of Unreal's shots are the same type and taken in the same areas. Whether you agree or disagree with him on the lack of interest the shots have is up to you, but to call legitimate criticism "hating" is intellectually dishonest. What kind of community would we be if we were unable to give and take valid criticism?

Ah, don't mind him. He'll take every chance he gets to throw a dig at me, however unfounded. I don't pay him any mind. Tis why I can only see his posts if somebody quotes him :P

So this is for Nick Pal and posting all the FC3.

I've been lurking around and actually really like some of those shots, but they get buried in with the ones that look more like "standard" gameplay snaps. There have been pages where it's almost unending FC3 because you've posted 6-7 separate times on a page with 2 shots each from it. That's a lot for a game that is pretty samey-looking (imo)

You've also posted 2 of the same shots on the same day, with only the tiniest hair of a difference between them (but probably without realizing it):

Anyway, here's some that I liked:

And the lighting looks surprisingly good here

But there's some pretty iffy stuff too, like

IMO it's almost like filler shots with no direction. They're more spontaneous maybe, but in the others I see some composition happening and some thought or gut about how you set it up. The thread isn't for beautiful artistic visions, but putting in what seems like filler just kinda serves to hide the nice stuff. Plus, if you really like this game why not show off in the best way you can and not muck it up and make us sick of seeing it. Sorry for a bit of a rant, but some selectivity can go a long way.

Btw dig the new color setup, being subdued actually makes it look more striking, strange as it sounds.
