More proof that all games need a Photo Mode. There's just so much to the world in the Souls games that really makes it worth seeing from more than just the normal gameplay perspective.

Man Dark Souls continues to be the fuckin coolest. The DS1 aesthetic is something that I feel is really missed in DS2. DS2 has its own look and style that I also enjoy, but DS1 just feels so oppressive and dark. I've been seeing a lot more of Dark Souls lately and it just feels so much more like a real and bleak world. I love it.
This is precisely why I like the first game. The art style and the world itself just adds to the hopelessness of it all. Even with no enemies around, there's still a feeling of dread hanging over your head.

I recently learned about the 'Golden Ratio' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_ratio) which is used in (among other things) photography a lot. I found it a shame there wasn't a helper available for us screenshotters to overlay the screen with the golden ratio fibonacci spirals to make it easier to get that well-balanced composition. So I made that effect, for reshade! :) It's available here: https://github.com/FransBouma/OtisFX

See two examples.

Hopefully it's useful to you all!

# rule of thirds

The golden ratio is good, but be careful how you use and implement it. It is something which can be overused in any field. Because of this, it kind of loses its appeal, similar to other concepts such as the Vitruvian Man. Not everything is about humans...
It's a tool like any other: use it to your advantage when it can bring advantage. Whether or not it's useful in theory... thousands of years people are wondering about phi, I don't think there's any doubt it is useful ;). It's not for 'humans' alone. The pictures below turned out to be better (at least to me ;)) when I tweaked them with better positioning of the camera.

Well Flickr just became worse. Now requires sign up just to download images.

I also miss Dennis' presence in these threads, and other boards. Some of my favorite captures.

Man I need to buy GTA5. Didn't play online much but these screens make me want to create a character and just run around taking screenshots. I'm assuming most of you are creating private rooms?

Open the "all sizes" window in a new tab via right click, no need to sign in (works for me in Firefox)

I never started GTAO once, also wouldn't be advisable when using mods/trainers.

I agree. The ratio can be useful. But when I meant it is not always about humans, I meant that the content and how you frame it does not always have to be relatable to humans, it doesn't have to make sense to the viewers. Some of the more strange choices of composition and placement can also be effective if it deliberately goes against things such as the rule of thirds, golden ratio, etc.

But of course, it is entirely up to the person making the image to do what they want with it.

Oh absolutely. It's not a 'place things this way and your picture will be great' kind of turn-key-solution :) It's just that with a little guidance on-screen, things can go from 'ok' to 'great'. It can give guidance how to get from ok to great, that's all it's meant for, really :)

I've been kinda interested in The Park. How is it, Neoraider?

It's very short, like... 2 hours of gameplay. I had some credit and got it little cheaper, but imo. it's worth 10$. I really liked it, not really scary but to me very interesting. I had low expectations.
