I feel Horrible Goaltending might be a factor too. Rask and Rinne are DrJekyll and Mr.Hyde goalies. They can look like Veznia winners one game, absolutely terrible in another
I dunno bout that. Sanjuro had been calling Rask out for years now. I've also seen some analysis that Rinne has declined significantly and that stellar D is bailing him out.

I know everyone wanted more TNA but I liked the fact that only 4 teams made it past the group stage. It made the initial games much more exciting knowing the top teams weren't going to get a couple of easy games they don't really need to win to start the tournament. Canada wasn't able to shrug about barely beating Slovakia or not really care that the Swiss took them to OT like they would in an Olympics.
In the Olympics they had 3 groups of 4 teams each. For the top teams, that's one easy game against a team that just qualified.

While limiting it to 4 teams makes round-robin games more important, it can also make the 3rd game meaningless. If more teams could make it to a quarterfinal round, there's more incentive to try harder in every game because there's a chance to advance. If the top 3 teams in each group advanced, the stakes would be much higher for the US vs. Czech game.

Plus a best-of-three final could be a ratings nightmare if it's Sweden vs. Europe, for example.

I'm really bummed that TNA is eliminated. I'm not even excited for the rest of the tournament. Just boring ass hockey from here on in.

It just occurred to me that if NA beat Sweden in regulation, and Russia vs Finland had the same score, then Sweden would have been eliminated

Crazy how much the results could have swung based on one goal

.

But having more teams guarantees more meaningless games period. I don't understand your argument. Having quarterfinals basically guarantees a few dud games with outclassed participants too unless they keep a couple of non-nation all star teams.

Yep, that's why that one point was SO IMPORTANT for us yesterday, and why the game was so damn stressful (especially with that awful start we got), and why is was such a relief that we managed to bring the game to overtime. It meant the difference between being third in the group and winning it. TINY margins with this kind of group stage.

Okay, true but I was thinking more Finland.

Last season consisted of an AHL D though... with an old #1 Dman. Plus Rask hasn't had a reliable back up in two seasons. Thank god Dobby is back!

Can't say I've been following this closely. Was just tipped that someone was talking about my best friend.

Team has issues for sure. I just would never consider Tuukka to be old reliable.

Can't disagree completely. Anyways back to watching Bergy and Marchy wreck the world.

Lol at their not being a NA vs Canada game. Dumb hockey marketing strikes again. It should have been a guaranteed game pre-tourny.

Not gonna lie, a few minutes in I switched to the football game and forgot about this extra exhibition game. Weird they scheduled it after the tournament started but oh well.

If they have this again next year, and USA has the same management, it's going to be hilarious hearing their excuse for not having Ghost on the team.

I think it's shame that Russia advanced instead of Team NA. With no pressure and with that crazy speed hockey I could have seen them even having chance to upset against Canada. Russia instead will get destroyed. Outside of that 6 min period against Team NA they have been pretty bad.

Team USA always gives up when the games no longer matter to them.

Also Andrej Sustr has more goals in this tournament than Steven Stamkos.

... you know, an Abdelkader hat trick to tie it up in the third would be pretty funny. Just imagine the tears of joy on Torts
