What made dsr convenient for me was that it didn't affect the resolution of anything outside the game, so I could switch back and forth between resolutions and programs without the interface changing size, plus it didn't decrease performance as much. Though if the blur comment is true then I might stop using it.

Custom resolutions work the same way. You just set it ingame, you don't have to change the desktop resolution before playing the game.

I dunno, as long as it's 4.00x it's looks the same to me. Any other DSR scaling will look like ass though.

Also you're missing out on not having a high refresh rate screen :lollipop_beaming_smiling:

Hmm... they look about the same to me. Apart from some pixel differences due to the slight difference in angle between the two images, sharpness and clarity seem to be the exact same.

I remember DSR clearly looking blurrier than custom resolutions, even at 4x scaling. Maybe Nvidia changed it at some point so that "smoothness" at 0% actually disables the gaussian blur filter on top of DSR.

On a sidenote... Anything below 4x DSR still gives you improper scaling with a horrible image. How come they haven't fixed that yet? I can create a custom resolution to get 2.25x supersampling (1366x768 >>> 2049x1152, 1.5x on each axis) which is not nearly as demanding as 4x but still gives pretty good anti-aliasing and some extra clarity, but with DSR it's just broken.

Ok, I tried using custom resolution and I've got to admit that you were right in that there is no downside to it, works pretty much like dsr for the purpose of taking screenshots except that it doesn't limit your resolution based on your monitor. I think I didn't try it before because I got spooked by the warning you get the first time you enable it, that stuff about possibly damaging your monitor and corrupting your bios. I should've looked into it more but then I found out about dsr which seemed to do basically the same thing with less risk so I just forgot about custom resolutions. Now I feel like shit cause I've got a bunch of screenshots that I used to be really proud of and now they're forever tainted for being on a smaller size.

I still disagree about the blur thing though. I think that only happens when you downscale to less than 4x. Here's a comparison:

Personally I use DSR at 4k on my 1080p 144hz monitor and I'm happy with 15% smoothness and reshade fxaa or 1660p with the same depending on the game I don't mind a softer image as long as you use sharpening filters as well

xPikYx xPikYx My native resolution is 768p so any extra blurriness beyond what i've set intentionally (such as FXAA) is a negative for me. I always try to have the cleanest possible image, hence why I didn't like DSR even with 0% smoothness and chose to use custom resolutions instead. But each to their own... There's many different monitor and games out there, you never know what will give the best results for your taste.

I might say something stupid but the thing is that your monitor is a 768p? probably the quality is neither the best nor the resolution is exactly a multiple of 4k res (it should be 720p). You must find the exact multiple resolution of 768p for the best result

But I didn't say I play at 4K, I only use that resolution for screenshots. I play at 2732x1536 or 2049x1152 which are proper multiples of 768p. I was just explaining why I don't use DSR with smoothness on.

Skyrim with a lot of mods, the objective was to keep the game the closest to vanilla, simply with enhanced graphics (and a locked 60 FPS):
