$30 plastic stands sold separately. $70 and $80 games. Charging for upgrades and cloud saves. Console gaming has become a money sink

No one likes paying more money for something than they did a week ago.

It isn't an argument against these recent price hikes still being more affordable today compared to minimum wage.

You have it better than you think do.

I have it better than I think?

I earn double the money I did five years ago, but somehow I feel pooer? How is that? Maybe because the cost of living has gone through the roof. Every bill and expense has increased by a massive amount.

As I said, if you want to pay publishers more money then go for it. Personally, gaming is starting to become too expensive as a hobby.

YOu can choose to not buy games and to get a different hobby. Walking is pretty cheap.

Lol. Wow. Thanks for the advice!

Anyway, it would be modern/console gaming I'd leave behind. I have enough retro games in my Steam and GOG library to last a lifetime.

The games aren't $100. They are $80 or $70. And the fact is they remain substantially cheaper compared to minimum wage today. And thus for a young person much easier to obtain than back in the 80s and in other eras.

And you get much more for your $$$$ as well compared to that era. Pitfall was a 38 minute game according to Google. And maybe 3hrs for completionists.

I think the logic says you have it a lot better than you think you do. ;)
>my money is worth less so i should be happy giving all of it to japanese coprorations.

When we ask why gaming has fell off, look no further than this thread, friends. Retards with too much income and a sunk cost fallacy are why.

To be completely honest it's not much more expensive than it ever was.

It's just that the Internet has changed. See PS5 Pro fiasco or any other gaming fiasco the last couple years.

We like to cry to see if we can impose our will on large corporations. Sometimes it works. In this case it won't, methinks.

I missed this. Did they release it simultaneously with their base model or something? That would be some fiasco but I don't know of a successful console manufacturer that's ever done this

I agree with you but my PC was becoming a time sink. I decided a long time ago my time is worth more than my money. It's why I pay someone to mow the lawn. It's not big deal for me to go out there and do it myself but I'd rather spend that time gaming and pay him $80/month to mow my lawn 2x a month. I used to wake up early and do it now I wake up early and play games.

This is the world we live in now. I just booked some flights: base cost which was frankly appalling, choosing a seat costs money, adding luggage costs a fortune, they want to charge you for getting on the plane early, they want to sell you insurance incase their flights don't depart on time....then the extras...do you want a car at the destination? a hotel? do you need holiday insurance? Then when everyhting is ready its taxed and surcharges are added because i booked something myself. Everything is itemized to oblivion...it's tiring and perhaps I'm getting old but easyjet can fuck off and so can gaming companies.
Funny I just booked a ticket a few weeks ago and made this reference to my wife. They nickel and dime the FUCK out of flight travel nowadays. For one of my flights, the base ticket didn't include the carry-on but for an extra $30 you can make flight changes, pick a seat......oh and NOW you can have the carry-on! So they've figured out how to charge for that by up-selling you on a few other features you're gonna probably want to have included.

This the same guy?

what an idiot.
It's not 700$ to upgrade a ps5.
It's a whole console.
The 2tb nvme is alone almost worth the price difference... let alone better performance.

He just bashes it because he can't afford it. Relatable but not professional

step away from the ledge. it will be ok.

It's wild how much gamers suck dick, and run to defend their multimillion-dollar bing bing wahoo industry. Not including memory cards was scummy and lame. Had I twitter at the time i'd be mad posting about it online then too. PS2 was literally the only console to 'need' multitap, and it was stupid and lame. I'll complain about it all day long every day.

They are not my friends; they aren't doing me favors or helping me out by selling me a product. They are businessmen, who just want to overcharge as much as they can, and it's idiots like you enabling them to do so. I want to be charged a fair price, not fucked in the ass overcharged thank you, games are in many ways literally cheaper than ever to develop for, this isn't the 90s anymore. For indie developers you can literally use engines for free, for AAA you can now just use those same engines instead of spending huge resources of time, and money developing them in house, and then having to spend more time and money training your employees to use your proprietary engines. You know have industry standards, and easy to use engines and interfaces. You have free assets, you can outsource your assets, or even your programmers. Industry standardization has immensely helped cut game development costs. And even just the prices of PCs that are used to develop have dropped immensely compared to the insane stuff they had to use in the 90s. The userbase has expanded far more than in the 90s too, more buyers literally mean you don't have to sell it at such aggressive prices to turn profit, and then with lower prices you can potentially get far more sales too. And then there are whole new revenue streams that didn't exist in the 90s, microtransactions, macrotransactions, dlcs, limited editions, deluxe editions, season passes, battle passes, time subscriptions. Now you can literally give a game away for free and still make money off of it.

So yeah, I'll complain all day, that I want to be charged fair prices on games. I get it, they have to make money too, but I don't want to be railed in the ass overpaying either, because kids like you run to defend the corporation, and tell them how 'it's okay, please charge me $200 more, because really when you divide the money I paid, by the time I played it really it's a good deal" and "well umm actually it was expensive in the 90s so i should pay more now too" Like are you retarded? Genuinely? Or you an investor pretending to be a gamer to gaslight people or something? Why do you want to pay more? Where do you even draw the line, or are you such a blind sheep there is no line, and you will hand over your money until you literally can't afford it anymore?
Amen brotha

The price increases are weird but didn't happen by accident.
We've said before that companies held the $60 for a VERY long time. So they found various ways to get more like digital deluxe editions with skins, early access to play the game, season passes, battle passes, micros, etc.

Now they've come to wanting to just get more for the base product but without a reason to justify it since they can make money through the means mentioned above.

So if they want $80 then they should be bundling the digital goods deluxe products with pre orders. They should include free season passes. Include currency for skins etc.

The cost for these things is minuscule. Who determined a blue outfit is worth $10? Creating it is something a Dev can do in a day, maybe two. Hell I'll be generous and say a week.

Give and take.

They need to get rid of paid online for the people who don't care about subscriptions and "free monthly games". Biggest bullshit scam ever to force a fee to play online games that are already going to cost $80 fuxking dollars.

These companies are all disgusting pos

Take it as a wake up call lads. It's been said a lot over the last $20 years, but we're out of road to kick the can down. A terrible storm is approaching and we will not do what is needed to avoid it as a country. Get off of financial autopilot. Make contingency plans. We're going to experience austerity in the next 10 years on a scale we never thought imaginable.
