Story here

Speaking to TheStreet.com, Allard said that he was "not sure" about the final price point, with a decision on pricing still "probably about two months away" - but confirmed that the price would "be in the neighbourhood" of the $300 price tag of Xbox at launch.

Sale +1 if true. Not terribly surprising. Sorry if old.

Jesus friggin Christ how many times are we gonna get these threads?(answer: many times til they official price announcements).

However there is NO reason, absolutely NO reason to expect both MS and S to launch their consoles at anything other than $299.

One argument I kept hearing tossed about was this talk of the components being so expensive right now... hell the components are ALWAYS expensive at the beginning of each generation.

$299... keep it in your heads.

Sorry D, but we're going to have a thread on how much the PS3 is going to be later this afternoon.

If I get a Blu Ray DVD player with a built in PS3, for $299, I am getting two.

I wonder how the Blu-Ray/HD DVD fight is going to affect Sony's manufacturing schedule? I think they'd go it alone, UMD style, if they couldn't secure agreement with the other parties. We'd still have plenty of content from the Blu Ray side, but I would prefer everyone was on board first.
