3DS Streetpass Experiences

That's how Nintendo Zone and SpotPass works. Your 3DS automatically connects to the Internet and if there is any SpotPass content that you can receive, your 3DS downloads it automatically. There is no asking or setting up a connection at all.

I've picked up signals from Nintendo Zones while driving on the freeway before, so it's definitely possible that you've passed by a Nintendo Zone unknowingly and your 3DS downloaded SpotPass content for you.

Anyway to turn that off? The person I normally streetpassed last year works where I work and they just did the whole AT&T thing there. It's a pain I want a lvl 7 mii everyday >:0

Unless it's a Best Buy, no, I have no idea how to turn off the Nintendo Zone. There's no option to block Nintendo Zone from your 3DS, so the only way to do it is to turn off the actual Nintendo Zone. It sucks that it interferes with StreetPass... Though it doesn't block out StreetPass completely, as I've gotten StreetPasses in Nintendo Zones before.

Work at a Home depot so we aren't next to each other much sadly :/ Isee him once a day at most and pass him for like 10 seconds.

But it is. :P
Do you have proof? Because I'm fairly certain that the 3DS can only automatically connect to Nintendo Zones. If you're not in a Nintendo Zone or a Wi-Fi connection that's set up in your 3DS's settings, then your 3DS will never show that it's connected to the Internet.

Huh? I'm pretty sure that's not true...

Yes it is. One day I was playing with some buddies and all our consoles automatically connected to one of those hotspots that are open but require browser login. We noticed because suddenly, everybody's orange led began to blink like mad and all of us were online in the friend list. Then we went to check the browser and the login page appeared, and we couldn't play online or access the eShop but somehow the friend list uses some protocol or port that is not "catched" by the security system and managed to get through so we imagined the console just tries to use any open wifi around and runs with it.

If your 3DS is shut, you SHOULD still get Streetpasses. From what I can tell, Streetpass is only disable when the internet is being actively used (for Nintendo Zone, that is when the system is OPEN and in a NZ area.)

That's odd, because I've tried the same thing once and wasn't able to connect in any way at all. It was during a StreetPass event at a mall and I had brought my DSi because I wanted to give someone else some DSiWare that I didn't want to transfer to my 3DS. You had to log in via a web browser to use the mall's Wi-Fi, and I wasn't able to connect no matter what I tried, on either 3DS or DSi. And I remember testing my Friend List to see if it worked, and it didn't show me as online. No orange lights or anything.

This is true, for the most part. Sometimes I've found that 3DSes still refuse to StreetPass each other as long as they're connected to the Internet, even if they're closed. For example, sometimes when I'm trying to StreetPass with my roommate, we let our 3DSes sit there and nothing happens. But if we unplug the router, the green lights on the 3DS instantly light up. I assume that one or both of the 3DSes are currently downloading data from SpotPass, which would disable StreetPass at the time. Turn off the Internet connection and the SpotPass stops, allowing StreetPass to work.

As far as I'm aware it's strictly a European thing. Nintendo have a deal with a range of wi-fi providers (BT - http://www.btopenzone.com/ - being one such provider) that supply free wi-fi to handhelds. I say handhelds as this has worked since the DS Lite.
As there are thousands of these hotspots then you will get random connections and Spotpass downloads just walking around in pretty much any major city. I've had this happen a few times and am still yet to connect to an official Nintendo Zone hotspot.

No, this is true for the US, too. Nintendo calls any AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot a Nintendo Zone (whether it has special content for the Nintendo Zone viewer app or not), and your 3DS will automatically connect to any of those hotspots. But as far as I've seen, the 3DS cannot automatically connect to open Wi-Fi hotspots if they're not AT&T (and thus not a Nintendo Zone).

Actually, you can automatically connect to any hotspot that has security disabled and is named "attwifi", and it will even enable Nintendo Zone. I've done this with my home connection and I don't even live in the US.

Well yeah, I've done that trick too, but the 3DS can't just automatically connect to any Wi-Fi connection with security disabled, it has to be a specific one, like "attwifi", used for AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots.

Got around 30 StreetPasses from the UMD Gamer Symphony Orchestra concert in DC, and 4 or so in transit to and from.

Getting that 50 damage in one turn award in Find Mii 1 is pretty tough...

Got one hit at the mall today from a Gamestop employee (third time he visited me). Looks like I'll be going to some of the Orlando Disney parks next week so here's hoping I get plenty of hits.

Ugh, I just screwed up and I figured I'd just put the warning out there.

When you recieve a Mii in StreetPass Plaza, there's an option on there to copy it to the Mii Maker. With any Mii you've recieved via game invite or whatever (like Mario Kart or SwapNote) the game will clearly warn you that taking it to the Mii Maker will remove it from Mii Plaza.

StreetPass Miis do not give the same warning. I just copied my StreetPass Plaza gold pants Reggie to my Mii Maker, and while I like the fact that I have him in there now (gold pants and all,) I no longer have him available for rehire in StreetPass Mii Plaza. I live in the middle of nowhere and have a total of 2 streetpasses in the last year not counting Reggie, so for me that's a pretty big deal.

Find Mii II is going to be that much more of a pain to finish for me now.

Somebody did say they got a crazy amount at Disney. I'll be on my Disney vacation May 22nd and plan on hopefully getting all of the Mario Tennis purple panels since that's all I need.

I hope I'm telling the truth now: afair a gaffer had the same problem but he could copy Reggie back to the mii plaza somehow.

You can bring him back into your StreetPass Mii Plaza by pressing Y while his Mii is selected in the Mii Maker, but I'm pretty sure you still wouldn't be able to use him in Find Mii anymore. You can try, though.

Keep in mind that this only happens for Special Miis and Miis received via Invite Mii. Normal StreetPass Miis can be copied to the Mii Maker without leaving the Plaza.

Yeah, it moves him to Mii Plaza but he can't be rehired anymore, so there's not much point. Thanks anyway though. I guess the fact that there's no warning for Special Miis is just an oversight by the developers.

There is a warning for Special Miis that you've scanned via QR code, but just not for Special Miis obtained via SpotPass. They should've put some kind of warning for SpotPass Miis, though.

You live in Orlando? Which mall do you go to?

No, I live in Clearwater. Update on my Orlando trip to Disney: was there for two days and got around 28 hits. I was hoping for a bit more but then again I was there during the week. Some of the international hits included Japan, Mexico, Canada and Antigua (first on the list). Too bad only one Japanese person had a region set to his profile =/

Plaza population exceeded 3000. The oldest Miis are now getting erased as new ones arrive. Miis over 3 months old no longer show their last game icon.

I was just visiting my boyfriend this weekend and brought my 3DS along as I usually do, but didn't end up playing it at all (and therefore didn't bother recharging it after it had died). It stayed in my backpack the whole time and the only time it was likely on was while I was in the car.

Anyways, I just got back and turned it on and the light looked kinda weird (I think the blue and green light were on at the same time maybe?). Then I checked my notifications and I had 1 new notification for Mario 3DLand and 3 new ones for Mario Kart, but not a single streetpass. I even checked my plaza and there's not a single new person in there.

Not really asking a question or anything I just thought it was all kind of bizarre.

Wow that's a lot. Would that be a fairly typical number for an active user in Tokyo?

At that point they probably start becoming impersonal. I wonder if they'll raise the cap again or just say "screw it nobody cares about all of them." It would be interesting to get some sorting options though.

goddammit, yeah i did this too - was gold pants important/a universal color or wha?
also, how do you rehire for find mii 2? ive wasted so many random people on a light-blue-shield-having-ghost.

Ran into an annoying issue today - I tagged a friend's 3DS for the 4th time last night, and I used him in Find Mii II. Afterwards I tried to use "Hire Old Ally" to use him again, but he was nowhere to be found. I do have a little over 1000 tags, but IIRC he shouldn't have been cycled out yet. Any ideas?

Edit: Nevermind, just had to close & re-open Mii Plaza. I guess he wasn't an "old ally" yet.

The assumption is probably that you'll never scroll the parade back far enough to see over 3000. If there were more data tracking and a higher or unlimited size capacity, it'd probably be another story.

yeah, i bet it and started again so i should be in 2 i think? where would it show up though? i recall only seeing the same "venture forth" and "hire a wandering hero". did i do something wrong when i beat it?

Did you only beat Find Mii once or did you beat it twice? You have to beat it twice before you can even play Find Mii 2. It's a different option you can pick when you choose between Puzzle Swap and Find Mii.

holy crap okay no i only beat it once, i thought that was enough...fuck that, i'm just gonna keep working on puzzle pieces, bound to be someone with a light blue shirt at the zelda concert.

Is there any reason a 3DS would stop StreetPassing? I went by the GameStop I'm hosting a MeetUp at to clear the details with the manager and the 3DS demo they have up wouldn't tag me. The wireless switch was on, natch. Upon further investigation, the thing hasn't StreetPassed anybody in almost a month (twenty eight days was the most recent one).

Now, as far as I know nothing has changed, it's the same demo and everybody at the last MeetUp tagged it.

Is it possible the demo unit hasn't had Streetpass Plaza loaded in the past month, and so all the old streetpasses haven't been cleared yet?

Streetpassed 7 people at a Playstation event in Toronto. Hohoho.

Oooooh, I wonder if you got me. I picked up a full roster of 10! Including Shane Man God who had many puzzle pieces. My Mii has a round brown head with stubble, glasses and a green shirt :)

I did notice I tagged DoctorWho from gaf.

edit: looks like I did get you, but not in Mii Plaza. Guess I was already full then. We have a paltry 5% compatibility in 3DS Sound App!

Yep, I picked you up in Mii Plaza (Zaheer). My Mii was a Dwight (The Office), but named EvilMario. :P

A few of us from Toronto-Age were sitting around talking for a couple of hours. I wish we would have known more people from GAF were there.

Aaahhh, haha. Yeah, I guess I don't really venture into OT-land very much :(

All in all, picked up about 20 StreetPasses today (I refreshed Mii Plaza a couple times). Good haul!

...also, Rubenstein scolded me for taking out my 3DS at the event >.>
HAD TO CHECK MAH STREETPASSES DAWG

What was the retail demo? Some demos entirely disable Streetpass... I believe. I've noticed this -seeming- to be the case in the past...
It was Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, the same demo that was in the unit in March when our whole MeetUp group tagged it.

Mario Kart 7 is the only recent demo to disable StreetPass, as far as I know.
