3DS Streetpass Experiences

Can you even get street passes when listening to music? I haven't gotten a single one since I started playing mp3's on my 3DS.

Yea you can.

I left the music player on in sleep mode when I went to the rec center on my campus. and then bam, streetpass.

Got 3 hits yesterday at uni, 2 new and 1 repeat (first repeat), they all had a puzzle piece I needed, I've unlocked all puzzle panels, still only finished one though. I seem to always get a hit when I take it to uni.

I need to find the guy who I first tagged with, he had every puzzle complete. He must have been a worker at GAME or Gamestation.

Would sure like to take it to an expo though.

Still none. Nothing. Nil. Nada. Carry it to work daily, take it to the missus' place, carry it when I'm out shopping. Nothing.

GameCity is on in a couple of weeks. If I don't get any hits then, I'm concluding that nobody else in my city owns a 3DS.

Live central London
Work central London
used to pick up street pass hits all the time during rush hour on the tube, REALLY dropped off these days.. perhaps 1 or 2 a week
They really need to get more regular updates to street pass games - looking forward to Novembers update

Have you tried slowly walking near schools to ensure you get a clear connection for streetpass? I mean really slowly, try leering through the windows to gauge if anyone looks like they would have a 3DS

If that doesn't work, you can always try a uni. It's where I got most of mine.

Much as I'd love to loiter around outside schools leering at children, I'm in the office whilst they're in the playground.

Not a bad idea but I walk past most of the uni buildings on the way to the missus' place and I've not had a hit yet.

I spent all my playcoins on heroes that pretend to be my friends in Streetpass Quest :(

Mistaken?

Oh, erm, yeah. Mistaken. Definitely mistaken. I'm not a stalker, I just carry binoculars for fun.

I finished the whole of Streetpass Quest using the hired mercenaries, it was not fun, lvl 2 warriors doing no damage for the second half of the game :(

It may be better to walk into the buildings, I'm sure the range required for Streetpassing isn't all that, added with the thick external walls as well will most likely not result in a successful connection. I thought no one had a 3DS here in Brum, but I just found that you have the most success with uni's and game stores.

Best of luck with GameCity, I actually kinda want to go there, but you know....Nottingham and all...

I thought it was fun. That's when you start learning how to effectively use magic. Purple and green 4 lyfe.

Honestly, street passes wouldn't help you too much anyway, unless you're walking past the same people over and over again.

Picked up three at Lakeside Mall here in Metairie, LA on Saturday around 2pm.

The place was packed, so I'm not surprised, but this was the first time I got more than just one at a time.

You know, I took my 3DS to Nuit Blanche (HUGE numbers of people all around downtown Toronto) and Canada's Wonderland and I didn't get anything. Blah. I got most of my Streetpasses in July and I've gotten barely anything since then.

There were so many people at NYCC this weekend. Most of which were at the Nintendo Booth (including StreetpassNYC). We've been really getting lots of Streetpass tags all weekend, and it was amazing!

Yesterday I was at the FS Batman launch, and despite the guy sitting next to me playing ZeldaOOT, no streetpass data.

I get the sneaking suspicion that some people never set it up in the first place.

I carry mine with me all the time and had only gotten about four tags (since I bought mine on price drop day). But then, I went to the local Renaissance Festival last weekend. Pow! Four more in one day!

Heh, I have just tagged someone this morning that has given me data for every SP-enabled game I have: Ridge Racer, Nintendogs and DoA Dimensions

Nintendo 3DS System Update: At the end of November, a new system update will deliver a range of cool new features and enhancements, including 3D video capture, which will let users record up to 10 minutes of 3D video and enable people to create their own 3D stop-motion animation videos. The update will also add new puzzles to the StreetPass™ Mii Plaza™ and a new dungeon to Find Mii. Other features will be announced in the future.
It doesn't say anything about a new Streetpass game, though. (This is from a press release.)

Well, I'm pretty sure my 3DS was stolen from my hotel rooms in Danvers, MA this morning. I just got home from vacation and noticed that my 3DS wasn't in my bags. I called the hotel and they said the cleaning staff didn't turn it in. So, if anyone Streetpasses with DredPirateStorm in the Danvers/Salem area anytime soon, please let me know. I guess this is what I get for bringing my 3DS around with me to try and Streetpass with people...

Ouch, that really sucks. My boyfriend had his 3DS stolen from school a few months back. It really sucks because he lost all of his StreetPasses from Video Games Live!, and he lost three games with it (nintendogs + cats, Pokémon White, and Art Academy). Hope you can get it back somehow! We weren't able to get his back, so we had to buy a new one... =/ All this before the price drop, too, lol. But yay for Ambassadors!

Did you try writing Nintendo? If you or he is a long time fan and write a compelling letter Nintendo has been known to be really customer friendly and replace stuff for free, even if you can't quite prove it was stolen.

Seriously? I knew Nintendo costumer service was awesome, but not that awesome, lol. Eh, his grandparents offered to buy him a new one, so we just did that. We waited a few weeks to see if the police could find it, but nothing turned up.

What sucks the most was that he lost all of his Pokémon with his Pokémon White. And he had Pokémon on there that he'd transferred all the way back from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, including lots of event Pokémon. Even a free replacement from Nintendo can't fix that. =/

I'm sorry to hear about your boyfriend's 3DS. I'm upset about the Streetpasses I lost as well. I had mine since launch and was only able to collect about 40. I'm also missing Pilotwings, Star Fox, and Zelda.

I did give Nintendo a call and they said that I'm safe from having any personal data stolen from me since it isn't stored on the system (credit card, address, etc). They said that if I did decide to replace the system they could transfer over my purchases and Ambassador status to the new system. They could also put an APB out for the old system if someone tries to call in a repair for it in the future.

As I'm typing this I also realized that I had an SD card in the unit that had some photos and songs on it along with my save data. Luckily I didn't have any personal pictures on it, but I did take some cool 3D pictures on a few trips that I never transferred onto my computer. The more I think about it, the more bummed I get :( Maybe the cleaning crew will find it at the hotel tomorrow.

EDIT I FOUND IT!!!!! Apparently when I was unpacking at home it must have fallen out of my luggage and somehow found its way under my bed and behind my shoes. I have no idea how that happened, but I'm so relieved that I didn't lose it :)

Woo-hoo! I got 2 passes over the weekend. A little disappointing as I spent the whole weekend shopping (ie; carrying the missus' shopping) and popped into quite a few games shops.

Still, 2 is a good start and they got me past the armoured ghost.

Missed this post before. You're not missing much this year, the line-up ain't so great. I'm looking forward to the Journey demonstration, I really enjoyed Flower last year. It's worth the risk of being stabbed.

HUGE SUCCESS AT YOUMACON TONIGHT!

Wound up with over 30 tags in less than a day (new record!)

I completed my last three puzzle panels (Pikmin, Zelda, NSMB)

Just need to finish up my 2nd playthrough of Find Mii (in 2nd to last room)

I got my first two StreetPasses on SM3DL last night, one of which was from john tv. Apparently they re-activate bonus rooms with a mugshot of the Mii who sent it. It's not a huge deal, a the game basically throws 1-ups at you, but nice nonetheless.

Finished Find Mii for a second time on Friday and got over 100 tags yesterday as well. Youmacon has been awesome. Now if only I can try out Four Sword with other 3DS users while I'm there

Finally met the 2,000th person in my Mii Plaza while at Comikaze Expo in Los Angeles:

If I ever reach such a number....lol

anyway, Youmacon 2011 is done, and getting lots of the tags was spectacular

Here's my current plaza stats:

396 SP tags
Plaza pop. of 270

Will I go back next year? Eh, maybe. Hopefully the 3DS will have lots of new SP Mii Plaza content worth completing by then

Wow, that is impressive. I'm sitting at around 70 miis with a few new ones each week. I need to hit up one of these conventions at some point.

I really fucking hope that Nintendo is secretly building a far more involved Streetpass RPG game somewhere behind the scenes. Imagine a single-player mons-style RPG where you collect different-coloured streetpasses for xp or leveling or equipment or something like that. It's very un-Nintendo like not to utilise a unique feature like this for something more than 'oh you passed a guy, now you can play again'.

There's a lot of gameplay opportunities here, I think...

Streetpass is getting a 2nd quest and more puzzles at the end of November but I don't think Nintendo will ever make it as involved as you talk about. They wouldn't want to create a game with that much detail and gameplay for free.

The streetpass quests are just incentive to get you to carry your 3ds with you everywhere. The real pay-off is for streetpass stuff you get from games that support the feature.

Putting this here for the record since there's going to be a major event in Santiago, Chile this Friday where Charles Martinet will do an autograph-signing session. I expect to get tons of tags there, and since it's my first time in Santiago since I got the 3DS, most of my tags should be new!

300,000 steps done, that's like walking from one end of Swansea to the next.

I wonder how accurate that is. I should carry around my Personal Trainer: Walking Pedometer and 3DS at the same time and see what the number is at the end of the day.

I doubt it's accurate at all mate. I think sitting down and then standing back up again yields a few steps on the Pedometer! Hahaha.

Hm I get off at 6 on friday, I can be there by 7. Hmm this is kinda tempting.

I think at some point Nintendo - or even a third party developer? - should take the next step and create advanced streetpass games for sale in the shop. Something simple enough like the adventure but with more options, armor, worlds etc... so that it could be sold for a low price to guarantee enough players.

For a non-free game there would be less hits in any case, sure, but as long as it would include the option to play with coins it's not such a huge risk for the buyer. It's obvious there are some gamers getting seriously hooked on streetpass, a bit like how a percentage of Pokemon players fall deep into the gameplay.

Hooooooly-eeeeeee sheeeet. Major success at the Charles Martinet event. Streetpasses all over the place and I got my copies of M&L3 and SM64 autographed by him. I even Streetpassed with Charles!

Only thing I regret was forgetting to bring SFIV3D. I maxed the ten entries way too early and didn't have the game with me to "clean" it.

But hey, I'm not complaining. It was a once-in-a-lifetime event.

I had a weird Street Pass experience today. I must have passed someone at Best Buy and traded data with them. But, the only data I traded was my Music preferences and Mario 3D Land gifts. They did not show up in my Plaza at all.
