3DS Update Now Available: Adds Miiverse, L+R to activate camera, etc

but no messaging with friends on miiverse on 3ds tho :(

We can't msg friends on the PC/web version of Miiverse as well.

That said, if I remember well, the msg about the 3DS miiverse update says "friends stuff not currently available" or something like that. I think they will give us the friends stuff in a future update.

By the way, are there games other than Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate that share the exact same Miiverse community for both Wii U and 3DS versions?

I have used a UK debit card on the South African and Australian eShop (and the Japanese Wii Shop). The thing to bear in mind is your bank will charge you for foreign currency transactions (check these policies out beforehand) which might make it slightly more expensive (or slightly cheaper, NOE use 1.1 EUR = 1 GBP for setting prices)

Got it. Thank you taking the time to clear this up.

Question: I have my NNID on my parent's Wii U and would like to delete it for when I get my own, can I sign into my NNID on my 3DS fine, delete the Wii U and still be good?

NO! The NNID setup explains is very clearly: you delete your NNID => you delete everything. It doesn't matter where you delete it, the whole point of the NNID merging is that you now have one account. If you delete the NNID on your parents Wii U, you will lose everything associated with it since you ...well ... deleted it. And you will also not be able to use the same NNID (unless they have changed this since last year).

You either make a completely new NNID on 3DS now which you will then later use on your own Wii U, or you keep using your parent's Wii U and give them a the new one when you buy one. Assuming you haven't both bought stuff with multiple accounts.

Anyone else having trouble logging on to eshop? Can't sign on to it since the update. :(

it's down.

Opening of Miiverse on Nintendo 3DS!

We’d like to announce that, as of today, Miiverse is available on all systems in the Nintendo 3DS family.

To access Miiverse on your Nintendo 3DS, you will need to perform a system update and create or link a Nintendo Network ID. If you already own a Wii U console and have a Nintendo Network ID, you can link that ID to your Nintendo 3DS system and use the same ID for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. You can then use either device to browse and post in communities for both Nintendo 3DS and Wii U software.

We have not yet created a community for every Nintendo 3DS title available, but we are working on it, so please be patient!

Some features of Miiverse, such as friend requests and private messages, cannot be used on Nintendo 3DS. If you like, you can use the “follow” function to keep up with your friends and other players - when you and another user follow each other, your posts to your activity feed will also appear on their activity feed.

However, please note that in order to avoid any trouble that may arise from registering strangers as friends using the Nintendo 3DS system’s Friend Registration, it is forbidden to post or write your Nintendo 3DS friend code anywhere on Miiverse.

There are a number of other points and precautions to keep in mind when using Miiverse, so please be sure to read the Miiverse Code of Conduct. You can find it here: User Menu ⇒ Settings/Other ⇒ Miiverse Code of Conduct For more details about the latest Nintendo 3DS system update, please select the internet browser icon (the blue globe) below, or click on the link if you are using the web version of Miiverse.

Yeah, "server fault".
This problem is the same that happened the other times big updates happened, right?

Pretty sure it's the first time there's such an incident after the update. Since people can still download the system update + link their NNID, maybe that means there's a problem server-wise : problem during this night's maintenance?

By the way, looks like the Nintendo DSi Shop is now offline too :

Servers are most likely getting HAMMERED by the number of updaters/NNID linkers, and Ninty probably overestimated the amount of people accessing the site.

Again Nintendo confuses people with how they name basic services.. Just don´t call it "link" and imagine login/logout instead. If you delete your psn/steam/nnid account - your stuff is gone. Of course. So you don´t want to "delete" your NNID if you want to use it later on a different device. Regarding your problem: You can login to your existing NNID with your 3DS. If you get a Wii U yourself call Nintendo to "logout" from your parents Wii U and to "login" on the new one since there is no System transfer app in the moment for the Wii U and you can only login to your NNID on one 3DS/Wii U at the time. Bullshit and difficult? Yes. But still possible.

ok yeah best thing about this is the mobile website. Surprisingly efficent considering we're talking nintendo here

So if digital games are still linked to the 3DS...what was the point of the Nintendo ID update?

Merge wallets w/ WiiU account, your NNID basically merges WiiU and 3DS eShops though games are still separate between the two. Games are tied to the account, not the system. The account is tied to the system though unless you system transfer.

But it's essentially the same thing, no? (Not the wallet / Wii U part, the digital games part). If for whatever reason, my original 3DS is damage or not available, I can't buy a second 3DS and download my previous digital library?

Prior and post update still require "system transfers"?

Miiverse..?

lol

There are various ways to prove your ownership of an account (NNID, hardware serial number, linked Club Nintendo, etc.). The annoyance is that you have to call Nintendo to get an account transferred in such cases, but it is entirely possible.

So if digital games are still linked to the 3DS...what was the point of the Nintendo ID update?

They are not and as far as I can tell, have never been... There has always been the System Transfer feature, and this update removed the 5 System Transfer limit which means you can now transfer your 3DS NNID (and all your digital purchases) to as many 3DS's as you want (still one at a time, though). Still no such feature for Wii U, but hopefully it will come in future...

Read the update notes for the "point". It links your wallet between Wii U/3DS and allows you to cross post in the 3DS/Wii U Miiverse's as the same account.

You can watch WiiU-Posts on 3DS. No idea if possible on WiiU, but why shouldn´t it be?

Kind of. You don't have a list of all WiiU Communities on the 3DS afaik.
BUT you can "favourite" the ones you want if you post something in it from your WiiU and then visit your own profile on the 3DS and klick on the community. :)

My 3DS is linked to my Club Nintendo account. By linking my Wii U NNID to my 3DS, will my NNID be linked with my Club Nintendo account too?

I'm putting off linking my Wii U with Club Nintendo because I'm waiting to see if I'll have enough coins to hit platinum.

Darn, I guess I better come up with a new name then :/

Thanks for the response

What are people doing?
I go to the albw community to see screenshots, too many are in 2d...
There should be something to tell if it's 3d before opening one, I'm wasting my time.

Huh, interesting. I guess if someone is playing with 3D off, the screenshot will only be 2D when posted. And I know a lot of people don't bother with the 3D, so..

There is definitely a list of all Wii U-only communities on the 3DS Miiverse. Go to the Community tab, scroll all the way down to the bottom and click the Wii U Communities blue button. Then scroll down a bit a click the More button. At the moment I see 170 Wii U communities right from my 3DS :)

Yeah it's also bothering me but then you can't blame 2DS owners, they probably don't have the choice. 3DS owners disabling 3D before taking screenshots are another story though.

No it´s not the same. I´ll quote myself here:

Should be possible. Just connect the new 3DS to your existing ID. Done.

So we have three scenarios:

You have a new 3DS (XL, custom design, whatever): Do a system transfer. Your ID will be transfered as well and your old 3DS will remain empty. Now you can sell it.

You want to sell the 3DS but keep your NNID: Format the device. ID still intact (online), but obviously the device doesn´t know about it anymore.

You lost your 3DS: Call Support. They will provide you with the options 1 or 2 if you can support some kind of proof.

Why lol at miiverse. Do you even know what it is?

Although I mostly play in 2D (I can't handle the 3D when I'm tired and I'm often tired lately), I'll be sure to pop 3D on briefly for posting a screenshot.

So I can not log into the store. I bought a $50 e-shop card this morning, and have been trying all fucking day to download something. Fucking nintendo.

Welcome to Sony and PSN a week ago. None of these companies seem to have it together. :P

lol

Not without going through customer service. And yes, system transfers still need to be done. It's not a magical cure.

Also: nothing lol about Miiverse!

Initial impressions of Miiverse are pretty positive. It seems like (surprisingly) Nintendo crafted a neat, little social playground. It's lacking in some areas, but it's definitely a good start. I'm surprised neither PSN or XLBA (that I'm aware of) weren't ahead of Nintendo in creating something like this. Doesn't seem to be an option to reply to posts, and it also seems like you can only either post text or freehand but not both in a single post. Other that that, I think it's a clean and inviting system. I'm glad they added it. I like that you can follow specific users like on Twitter, etc.

As an aside, it looks like I was able to use my GD nickname after all. :) It just required a new NNID name.

I don't think swapnote will be missed much now

I miss it, i cannot chat or interact with all the people i added as friends on my 3DS we used to arrange to meet up in AC-NL or play other games online, 99% of these people the SwapNote was the only way i had to contact them, Nintendo didn't even give us the decency to make other arrangements by giving us notice that SwapNote was closing so we could exchange email addresses or anything.

If this new update with NNID/MiiVerse enables people to get back in contact with their FC/3DS friends then there is no issue & SwapNote won't be missed, but from what i have heard this is not the case for this update, it seems that the friends i had added with Friend Codes are lost forever.
