This has been great every year. Takes quite a bit of effort to even try them all but I always do.

Basically like going to an indie E3 on your couch. A lot of them are super low budget though, just to keep expectations in check.

Halls of Torment is great (on steam). I imagine the console version will be great as well. Def recommended if you're into vampire survivors type games. It's one of the best.

I love these demo drops. Some of the games will probably never be released. And many of them are crap, but there are always two or three that have a great potential.

Nice to see Halls of Torment on console finally. Xbros eating good with that and Deep Rock Survivor.

Baki looks incredible

Didn't know there was a Baki game coming out, and it looks like it's Punch-Out inspired. ( Little Mac Little Mac )

Too bad it seems to have the looks and budget of a flash game. :goog_relieved:

The Gothic Demo looks pretty a'ight.

Though none of the other Performance / FPS options seem to work. It only runs at 30fps with V-Sync no matter what option you choose.

Also, this is the first time I've seen a 50fps option in a console menu, I'm guessing this demo is copying over stuff from the PC version, these variables aren't gonna be in the console version on release.

Looking at the above list I already played several of these demos.

- Gothic 1: surprisingly great demo.
- Nikoderiko: by the end I was pretty impressed for a DKCountry clone. Will get on sale.
- Sulfur: lots of potential. Great premise, interesting art style. Difficult balance is fucked though currently. Very easy to take damage.
- Knowledge or No Lady: I usually hate stuff like this but the girls are cute and it does seem decent if you just want a harem FMV game. Cheap too. Most similar demos for other games like this were worse.
- Towa: great art style, decent gameplay. Way, way too much dialogue.

It probably does. Support the devs to hopefully get higher budget games in the future? Thats the dream I guess. I'd kill for a violent Baki MMA game in 3D.
For a few bucks I wouldn't mind! Should scratch the itch until the next season comes out.

I remember seeing a dude at the mall buying a Baki DVD in the 2000s. I asked him what it was and gave me the TLDR. Bought a copy myself and I've been a fan ever since. I'm not an anime guy but that and Hajime no Ippo are two of my favorites. Up there with Ninja Scroll.

You go around the super market asking people what they are buying? :goog_relieved:

Sounds based. You sure did the right thing, it's a super fun series to watch. I'm not too much into anime either but I loved Baki, just a bunch of crazy dudes trying to take martial arts to the limit, what's not to love there?

Super market? Is that what they call shopping malls in your country? We were in the DVD store at the mall. Back then you had to go there for niche stuff you couldn't find at big box stores like Best Buy, so it was like of a hangout spot for younger guys.

Ooooh, just like in the movies! We have malls here too but I never thought of them as hangout spots. But I'm a pothead so I usually hanged around parks and natural spots, so who knows.

And sorry, me calling ther mall super market is just one of my many ESL-isms lol.

All good man, I figured. Here a supermarket is where you buy produce and groceries.

I had a blast with Halls of Torment, but then again I spent days playing Vamp Survivors.

NODE: The Last Favor of the Antarii is kind of cool. Hard to describe it, but it is like a puzzle game where instead of directly controlling a character (a robot in this case), you need to give a set of commands first and then it does them.

Gloomy Eyes could be fun for kids that want to solve puzzles.

Beacon of Heyda looked intriguing.

Tormented Souls 2 looks like the same thing more or less, just with slightly better graphics. Editing between camera angles still needs work.

Real quick off topic:

On topic :

Lel, yeah the names and shit can get a bit chaotic. You should start with the original series, then move onto the Netflix revival.

(old series)
Grappler Baki - Kid Saga > very cool, loved it and the music slaps
Grappler Baki - Maximum Tournament > could be better animated and they censored a lot of the violence, but still worth it as it introduces a lot of side characters for the rest of the series
(new series)
Baki - Death Row Convicts
Baki - Raitai Tournament Arc
Baki Hanma: Son of Ogre part 1 Prison Arc (2021)
Baki Hanma: Son of Ogre part 2 Pickle Arc (2023)

I really like the Netflix adaptation. Animation could use some more budget sometimes but it's still well drawn and according to those that have read the manga, quite faithful to the source material. Enjoy! For me, it became better the more I watched, and even if there's more to come the current ending is amazing and well worth it.

Remake of a PC classic RPG.

I overlooked this, but since posters in the thread seemed to enjoy it I tried it out.
This is gonna be VS all over again. I'm gonna dump like 60 hours into it within a week then never touch it again.

I fell off of it much quicker than VS, but it's inexpensive and is like if VS and D2 had a lovechild.

I like that VS has shitloads of characters and weapons, but I'm digging the streamlined approach here as well.
They really nailed the 90's look/sound they were going for and the music may be the best part of the whole package.

Oh sweet thanks. I'll defo check it out. I assume the grappler series (old) as you mentioned is not on netflix but is the new netflix series like a re-imaigning or a continuation?

Hall of Torment is definitely fun. Total nostalgia bomb. I like that you can aim attacks.

Plum Grove has a nice Paper Mario HD2D look but is super slow, little glitchy at the moment.

I'll check out the Yooka Replaylee demo... to see if it's actually markedly better than the awful original.

yeah... idk...
it feels better than the original, but it still has many issues imo.

for one, the entire game just feels... limp... I don't know how else to describe it. everything feels unexciting and the visual feedback on basically anything in the game lacks impact or excitement.

also, I instantly found a technical flaw. the aim camera has a movement update issue. probably the typical Unity Engine stuff, where the rigid body object the camera is attached to uses the wrong tick rate or some shit.

That's pretty cool, though I'm getting weirded out why many of these games need to have their demos timed, instead of kept available.

FOMO marketing tactic. Steam does it too. Gives the customer urgency to try it out before it's too late.
I know Steam does it too, though at least for some of the themed events I had demos that didn't stop working after they were over.

It's just weird to me to use it as a tactic once, and then not put it back at least for release to give people a chance to try it.

For me a time limited demo is a thing to ignore. I'm not going to drop everything to play it before it goes away. Who knows, maybe I'd actually buy games like Commandos Origins or Anno 1800 if I had the opportunity to check their demos on my own terms.

Look at Gothic Remake, the demo not only is available since February, but the devs are constantly improving it based on the new mechanics they've implemented. Plus they recently made it available for console players. That's how it's supposed to be done.

PAL is back?
Joaquin Phoenix Reaction GIF

Locked 50fps could actually be viable for VRR owners.

But I don't think those options are for consoles, just some very early demo code mixup. The demo doesn't even run at anything other than 30fps, despite all the options, at the moment.

Just joking a bit. PAL50 is okay, it's been the norm for me up til the 3D era when 25fps became the norm, which is NOT okay.

The problem with PAL though was that the game speed was slower and the screen was squished with black borders top and bottom from outputting 480 vertical res on a 576 vertical res screen. I don't want to go back!

PAL was alright during the Commodore era when most devs were in Europe. Once 99% of the games were made in NTSC land and (not) converted to PAL it was hell. N64 Ocarina of Time ran at 17fps…
