Specifically, the MadCatz Xbox 360 Game Pad Pro, and the Joytech Neo SE Advanced Controller Xbox 360. I'm only interested in these because of the "cross" D-Pad, as I think it might work better for DOA4 than the standard 360 D-pad. The Madcatz has gotten decent reviews online, but I'm interested to know if any of you have any hands-on experience with either controller.

IMO, when officially licensed, MadCatz makes a good controller. Their first round of Xbox 1 controllers were well-made and a good alternative to The Duke. I know nothing of Joytech. Maybe find out how good their other products are -- that'd probably give you a decent indication of how good/bad the 360 pad is.

The Madcatz is supposed to be very good. They have a wireless model ready to go, but MS wants to keep a monoploy on that market for awhile longer.

I stopped buying third party peripherals after I had a bundle with MadCatz controller foisted on me when I bought a Dreamcast at launch. The d-pad was made of this soft rubber that eventually wore down with constant use, it was fucking terrible.

What does this have to do with the topic at hand? I never buy third party peripherals, particularily MadCatz products. I always find it's worth the extra 10$ (or whatever) to get the quality stuff. Maybe they've improved ovwer the years, but my experience with their products is negative.

Thanks for the opinions/suggestions, guys. I may take a gamble on the Madcatz controller, and I'll let you know how it works out on DOA4.

There are good 3rd party controllers. But they are a select few. There was a good one for the GC, but i forget the company. And Blockbuster has their hip gear controllers for like 10 bucks. I actually bought one for the xbox and was surprised at the quality. i ended up splitting time with it and the official controller.

I can't speak for their 360 controllers, but their XBox ones were absolute trash.

Logitech has made plenty of great console controllers.

I agree with giving the Hori a shot. Any of the Hori pads I've had over the years have always been magnificent. In terms of quality, it usually goes (in my experience): First party, Hori, Logitech, MadCatz (if officially licensed--yes it matters, their PS2 and GameCube product is kinda shite), then everyone else.

I get used to the first party and then anything else feels really alien. Maybe except for the Dreamcast and the XBOX orig controller. Hori does make some good stuff though.

Anyway, I'm going to echo the negative sentiments about MadCatz. They wear out within a year, and you're left with crap.

The right analog stick on that Hori pad looks like it would be hard to reach, or at least at a wierd angle...
