A thread for people that are trying to play 52 games in a year. Tell us how you're doing and what you are going to play next - claim a post and update us on your progress!

How do I take part?
Claim a 'main post' where you will list all your completions for the year. You can use fancy images or special formatting to make it extra cool. In addition to this post your updates, completions and thoughts as singular posts throughout the year.

Does my main post need to adhere to a format?
Nope! We previously did, but now you can have it formatted however you like. Take some inspiration from previous year posts. Here's a beautiful example!

Do I need to post reviews, scores, dates and stuff?
Also nope! It is highly recommended to spruce up your completions with mini reviews, a score (for example 2/5), your playtime duration, date completed, platform or any such fun statistical information but it's not required. You do you.

What's that Hall of Fame thing?
Those who beat the challenge get placed in the shrine that is the 'Hall of Fame'™. Furthermore you'll get a pretty little medal that denotes how many years you've overcome the challenge. Cool kids have been doing this for over five years.

How do I know when I've completed a game?
That can be tricky to determine, but it's ultimately up to you. If its a straightforward single player game then it's typically when the credits roll, but if it's say a multiplayer session based game maybe its when you've unlocked a certain feature or completed a battle pass.

Do the completions need to be games released this year?
Nope; any video game will suffice. It can be first plays or replays, classics or recent releases. It can be a game you started last year but are finishing this year.

Do board games count?
They do not. Vidya games only here.

I want to record durations, do I have to manually count?
No, most platforms (Steam, Xbox, Nintendo, etc) will do the duration tracking for you! If in doubt you can also use sites like HLTB to fill in the blanks.

Do episodic games count as a single game or X amount of games?
That's up to you. It's alright to count something like Life is Strange as one or five games. Your choice, for whatever makes sense with how you've been playing. Ask other users if in doubt.

What should I do once I've completed the challenge?
Send me a DM on this platform, with a link to your post that shows all the games you've completed, and I'll make you thread famous by adding you to the Hall of FameTM. If I take a while to respond don't panic, I tend to go into periods of hibernation throughout the year.

Is there a deadline?
Until Dec 31st 2026 @ 11.59pm!

Starting in 2020 our Discord (http://discord.backlogbeat.com/) has since grown to over 150 members. Among discussing the 52 Challenge (posting updates, picking games, etc) we also coordinate a slew of other totally cool game activities (see below)…

A play on a traditional book club that sees us choosing and collectively playing a nominated game per month, sharing our thoughts and opinions through to beating it. Those who beat the current nomination get entered into the raffle to pick the next months; share your favourite games or recent releases you're excited for with us!

Jan: -Jul: -
Feb: -Aug: -
Mar: -Sep: -
Apr: -Oct: -
May: -Nov: -
Jun: -Dec: -

It's the same thing as above, but only for movies! Similar approach in that all you need to do is watch the nominated film to acquire a raffle ticket with an even lower bar to enter as most choices can be completed with a leisurely sub 3 hour investment.

Jan: -Jul: -
Feb: -Aug: -
Mar: -Sep: -
Apr: -Oct: -
May: -Nov: -
Jun: -Dec: -

Sometimes it's tricky to get a thing nominated but there's enough folk playing it that it makes sense to carve a dedicated place and play together. Elden Ring is a great example of a game that reaches new heights when played alongside others.

Come say hey, everyone is welcome and folks from these threads are our favourite kind of people! You'll likely see a lot of familiar faces :)

And so there lists all those that have risen to the challenge during this or prior years! If you see yourself beating the challenge, please remember to send me a DM with your post once you're done!

Thanks for doing this again!

1. Sonic Generations x Shadow - PS5 - 1/5
2. Dragon Quest I HD-2D - PS5 - 5/5
Such a wonderful game.
3. Luigi's Mansion - Switch 2 NSO - 3/5
Pretty good, but the last boss kind of soured the experience for me and the controls aren't as refined as one would expect from a Nintendo title.
4. Kirby's Air Riders: Road Trip - Switch 2 - 5/5
Perfectly blends the many modes of Kirby's Air Riders into bite sized helpings for a compelling single player experience.
5. Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta - PS5 - 4/5
I prefer the original and even at that, I think the game has lost some of its' luster mechanically and narratively.
6. Mario Galaxy 2 - Switch 2 - 4/5
I played half way through this back in the day so this is my first clear. I know people prefer this over the original, but I'm firmly in the opposite camp. Still a really good time.
7. Split Fiction - PS5 - 1/5
8. Tetris 99 - Switch - 5/5
9. Stasis - Deck - 2/5
It's a beautifully detailed P&C adventure, but I'm not much for Sci Fi settings and I dislike how segmented the game feels with your inventory rarely having over six items in it.

Normal mode

Game 1 - Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment - Switch 2 - Completed Jan 2nd, 2026
I've actually been playing this off and on in co-op mode with my son for the last few months, but finally finished it and watched the credits roll tonight. Amazing game, one of my favorite Zelda things to come out in the last decade. My only real problem with it was that occasionally it just didn't feel like a Zelda game at all without Link, and most of the characters were unknown to me. I didn't play Tears of the Kingdom, so that's probably why. Anyway, a great game to kick off the new year with!

Game 2 - Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel - PC / Epic - Completed Jan 3rd, 2026
Picked this up for free during Epic's last big multi-game giveaway. I'd had my eyes on it for a while but finally decided to take the plunge because I'd heard good things. It was... okay. Very much just "okay". It doesn't really do anything that unique or different in the bullet heaven roguelike genre, though the graphics were good quality and the game ran reasonably well. Very much worth the price I paid for it.

Game 3 - Plants Vs Zombies: Replanted - Switch 2 - Completed Jan 3rd, 2026
I picked this up when it was on sale recently, I was a big fan of this game back before EA owned it. The adventure mode was still a lot of fun, and the game ran great on the Switch 2 (as one would expect after playing the original on a PC from 20 years ago). This seemed like a good follow up to Insaniquarium (which I finished recently) because it supposedly uses the same engine. Still a good time.

Game 4 - Vay - PC / Steam - Completed Jan 6th, 2026
I've had my eye on this port for the better part of a year, but it hadn't gone on sale once since it released, and I didn't want to pay full price ($7 lol). Finally got this as part of GAF's Secret Santa gift exchange! I'd played the Sega CD original, but I don't think I ever finished it as the difficulty spikes were just terrible. This new port has a ton of QoL features (recovery on level up, fast-forward mode, selectable EXP and Gold modifiers up to 4x) that made the game trivial, but fun to experience. Of course, they also made what was previously a 20-25 RPG experience into a 6-7 hour one, but that's okay. The voice acting was cringe but amazing. The jokes were super dated, but fun.

Game 5 - Terminator 2D No Fate - Switch 2 - Completed Jan 15th, 2026
I'm a bit on the fence about this game, on one hand the pixel art is incredible, and the game follows the story of Terminator 2 (and gives more context with the future scenes), but on the other hand it's too expensive for what you get. Game only took a few hours to beat, and some of the levels were straight up bullshit - especially the final level. I'm glad this exists but it really should have been about half the price, at which point I could have easily recommended it.

Game 6 - 12 Labours of Hercules 16 Olympic Bugs - PC / Steam - Completed Jan 16th, 2026
More Hercules, still a fun game that I like to use to wake up my brain every morning. This one was pretty similar to the previous 15 games in the series, but they added a few new mechanics that were fun. My favorite was that adding resources when they're capped just filled your special bar, and I also liked the special ability that just gave you extra resources, as it added some new interesting strategies to some levels. A few of the puzzles were really challenging, I guess I'm on to number 17 next...

Game 7 - Ball x Pit - Nintendo Switch 2 - Completed Jan 21st, 2026
I was hesitant to replay this again after hating the "menu" on PC, but actually found it a bit better this time around and easier to do without having to min-max / micromanage to get the achievements like in the PC version. The core gameplay (throwing balls in the pit) is still amazing, and ran especially well on the Switch 2's hardware.

Game 8 - The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero - Nintendo Switch 2 - Completed Jan 22nd, 2026
This game was absolutely incredible. Some great QoL upgrades of Trails in the Sky 3. Really great new characters for this arc, and lots of returning characters as well to round out the roster. The first half of the game was a little on the slow side, but by the midway point the game really picked up, and I was hooked straight til the end. Took me about 42 hours to complete. Can't wait for the next chapter.

Game 9 - Pokemon Rumble - Wii / RetroAchievements - Completed Mar 21st, 2026
OK so it's been a minute since I've beat any games, mostly because I started playing Final Fantasy XI again. Anyway, Retro Achievements came out with Wii support, and Pokemon Rumble was one of my favorite Wii / WiiWare games on the system. The gameplay is still really satisfying after all these years, and the achievements popping up really helped with the game's replayability.

Game 10 - Dragon Quest VII Reimagined - PC / Steam - Completed Mar 26th, 2026
I put way more time into this game than I probably should have. I ended up with around 60 hours on the clock, and my characters were about level 75 and had mastered all the jobs. The game is still just too long and meandering, though it finally ends up with an actual questline near the end, so that's cool. I enjoyed this a lot, and it's easily the best version of VII, but I do wish they would have included costumes for each of the jobs as it made the characters just a little too static.

Game 11 - Final Fantasy XI - PC - Completed Mar 29th, 2026
Can anyone really ever beat an MMO? According to HorizonXI and RetroAchivements - yes! It took me 114 hours, 44 minutes over 2 months, 11 days according to their website, but I finally finished the original game's "main story line". That's nowhere close to all the games content (which I plan to continue) but it's enough to be considered "cleared". I'm only missing 9 achievements, so I'll probably grind those out for a while before starting in on the expansion pack.

Game 12 - Dispatch - PC / Steam - Completed Apr 9th, 2026
This was my favorite game from 2025, and even though it's been less than a year since I played it I still very much enjoyed my second time around. This time I tried to make as many different choices as I did during my first playthrough, and the story actually turned out quite a bit differently even though the same beats were there. This game really elevates the genre, and games like The Wolf Among Us 2 is going to have to step up their game in a big way if they want to be successful.

Game 13 - Vampire Crawlers - PC / Steam - Completed May 1st, 2026
Loved Vampire Survivors and loved Vampire Crawlers (though not as much). While it's an interesting take on the formula, the turn-based card action doesn't really scale to the same heights as Vampire Survivors does - at least not yet, as I hear that there is quite a bit of planned DLC for the game coming out soon. Somewhat like VS, the real problem here is that once you unlock a winning combo of arcana cards and crawlers, it's difficult to want to do anything else in the game other than just keep winning. Still - a fun way to spend about 20 hours!

Game 14 - Final Fantasy XI: Adventure - Gameboy / RetroAchievements - Completed May 4th, 2026
I've been playing tons of Final Fantasy XI lately, so I decided to try the Gameboy homebrew Final Fantasy XI Adventure. It's a cute sort of meta-game about the main Final Fantasy XI storyline. There are no real battles or levels though, the entire game just became a big fetch quest simulator. But - it's got an interesting map layout that closely resembles the real XI map, which was fun. Got 100% on Retro Achievements, only took about 2 hours as I was fast-forwarding most of the time to account for the slow walk speed.

Reserved my own post :D.

Enjoy the challenge for 2026 all! I've most all thread images except HoF avatars to a new image host to help our UK friends out, let me know if its bad and I need to switch to a different one. I'll also do 2026 and future HoF avatars on this host too. <3

This is the year.

Edit: This is clearly not the year. I got a late start and there is no way it's happening. But we're gonna log this shit anyway:

1. Ys X: Proud Nordics (PC) - 45 Hours - 3/7
2. DOOM (2016) (PC) - 9 Hours - 3/18
3. DJ Max Respect (PS4) - 3/21
4. Rance 01 (PC) - 3/28
5. Resident Evil: Requiem (PS5) - 4/22

This year, I'm hoping to get through the AC series and make a dent in all the rpgs I have laying around. Wish me luck!

It was pretty tough but forced me to finish a few games (Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon, God Eater 3 and later Daemon x Machina) that I didn't want to touch again. So count me in! I'm currently playing Resident Evil 5 so that will most likely be my first finished game of 2026. Trying to finish the postgame at Etrian Odyssey 2 which I already counted as 2025 since I finished the game already, so I still don't know which one will be the first one I will start and finish in 2026.

And kudos for the work in this thread!

Resident Evil 5
First game of the year, RE5 for Switch. Having finished 4 before wanted to continue with the series before the 7-9 pack is released. Control is different so took me a while to understand it, still not as good as present day shooters but was easier to use than RE4. Not much horror here, though, felt it much more like World War Z than Resident Evil. Finished it in normal difficulty. Also finished the two extra stages, much shorter than the ones from RE4. Story is cool, haven't played 2 nor 3 (they are Cloud only on Switch) so got major spoilers but I don't really care. Some bosses were hard, fortunately you can opt for a rocket launcher and skip the battle entirely. Around 20 hours to finish.

Hogwarts LegacyBought the Switch 1 edition and then the DLC for Switch 2, so ended up with both full versions. Played it on Switch 2, I think my first Switch 2 game ever. Battery lasted between 2 and a half and 3 hours depending on battles, so was a pretty sluggish pace. Game is good, only seen a few glimpses of the first movie but wonder why I couldn't just play as Harry. Map is immense, lots of things to do but many are just repeated missions. Finished the game missing two missions I couldn't finish because I lost myself in the map plus several locations I didn't visit in the coastal area. Took me 74 hours to beat, got 80% completion rate in normal mode.

Overbold (UFO50)
Man, what a ride. I bought the collection only for Valbrace but decided to check a few games before playing it and got caught here. The concept is simple, 8 stages, Smash TV-like roguelite where you add packs of enemies to beat in every stage (chosen randomly), beat them, get money and buy upgrades for the next stage. So, you could reach the final boss in your first playthrough but with the basic fire weapon and 3 bombs. I tried many different tactics, there are 16 different skills, some upgradeables and by the time I wanted to quit I was already too invested. Finally finished it after almost 20 hours and hundreds of deaths just after I finished Hogwarts. First gem of that pack. Note that numbers of times played refer to the times you start the game from the main launcher, not amount of times you start the game from within the game.

Night Manor (UFO50)A simple graphical adventure, you wake up inside a manor and need to escape while escaping the stalker. It gives me some vibes of Friday the 13th for NES while inside the house. I got the "bad" ending after about 4 hours and the "good" one after 6. I really enjoyed it, you "die" but it's not really a death, you continue playing and at the end of the game it tells you how many times you "failed", in my case 8 / 28 times respectively. Not feeling the "hiding" from the stalker, it's almost as if they made it too hard to fail on purpose. Really nice little game.

Resident Evil 6Finished all 4 stories. Started with Ada since I was going to finish only one but after realizing it was pretty short (about 6 hours in Normal) I decided to play the others in Amateur. Chris' story was insufferable, too much action against humans, looked more like a shooter. Ada's had variety and spoilers galore, Leon was more "classic RE" though not that much and Jake's was fine, would put it closer to Chris than Leon. It's not a bad RE6, heard it was the worst in the series, personally 5 was a bit worse because of the item management with your partner. According to in-game clock took me 21 hours.

VEDA visual novel (with options to alter the course of the story) and simple strategic battles where you attack and move to either left or right and must combine the correct attacks with movements to evade monster's attacks and to damage them or their limbs, getting experience to buy skills. Story took around 6 hours. Ending does not seem to depend on options, though, which is kind of disappointing. Liked the art and animation.

(Rock On! Island (UFO50)A tower defense game where you need to protect your cave from dinosaurs. The twist in the game is that instead of a cursor you are actually a character that can fire at the enemies instead of just placing cavemen and upgrading them. The game has 12 stages but you only need to beat 7, and 2 stages are more "tutorial like". There are 10 waves per stage but two that have 15 and 20 waves, every wave consists of one or more type of dinosaurs, each with their strengths and weaknesses. Had to play the last stage twice, I didn't know you could upgrade your own weapon. Took me 10 hours to finish all stages including the secret village.

Tormented SoulsA throwback to old fixed camera horror, you are a girl who wakes up naked and missing an eye in a bathtub and must uncover what happened. The story is interesting, the environments are well done (though they don't really feel asphyxiating), not much variety of enemies (just 4 types or so) but the limited ammo and saves make it up somehow. You end up realizing what is going on relatively early but why you started that way is pretty shocking. It includes both modern and classic tank controls, and though you have 3 different endings you can play them all from your last save beating the boss. Took me over almost 13 hours.

Remothered: Broken PorcelainI started this one, realized I had to play Remothered: Tormented Fathers first so I quit and played the other, a year later return to this and I must say it's not as bad as ratings say. Surely, when it launched it probably was a bug feast but other than a couple of janky camera setups it worked fine. The story is both prequel and sequel to Tormented Fathers, the stalking is much easier here, it feels like you actually have an opportunity to sneak around contrary to the previous game, the new out-of-body experience skill is pretty cool, the bosses are fine... the story might be a bit convoluted but it's not that bad. However, I used a guide though most of the game because I thought it was going to be a bug feast but in the end it wasn't that bad. Font could have been larger and game could have better color palette, though. Took me 8 hours and a half.

Valbrace (UFO50)This is the game I bought UFO50 for. I started playing the Floor 0 or tutorial, then quit to play a few others. Finally tackled this and man, what a beautiful game. Grid-based, turn-based dungeon crawler with active, real time combat inside the room, no transitions. Combat is fun, you always feel like you should be able to beat everyone, found a dozen or more spells (though finished the game using only 3), There are maybe 10 weapons, armours and maybe 5 shields but every one feels different. There are only 3 stats which you can improve. Inventory slots are limited but you can improve it a couple of times. There are maybe a dozen different enemies and 7 floors in total with the tutorial. Took me a bit more than 8 hours to finish without mapping, just following walls with a hand. The game is well balanced, and feels too short once you finish it.

Attactics (UFO50)A very simple strategy game where you need to place your soldiers in one of the rows and they advance towards the opposite castle, if they find another soldier they battle, if they reach the castle they take one life away. The game had potential, unfortunately the opponent's AI is nonexistent (units would appear but they wouldn't move as you could), and most of the stages were to battle your opponent at a handicap (with the opponent placing 15-75% more units than you). Once a soldier reaches the other castle you cannot place anyone in between so if you have a row of 5 characters they will all take one life away unless an assassin (who shot vertically) was around. In 2 hours I beat all the stages.

Party House (UFO50)
A puzzle game where you must build the "ultimate party" having 4 "star" guests within 25 days/parties. To get them on board you must invite people, some of which increase your pop level (which lets you invite others) and others increase your money (which lets you invite one extra guest). You must balance earning money to expand the house with earning pop to invite better guests, if you invite more people than the house can fit your party is ended by firemen due being overfilled and if you have 3 troublemakers the police ends it due noise levels, earning nothing for that party. It took me a while to understand the mechanism but afterwards it's rather simple and entertaining. Finished all 5 stages in 3 hours.

Disco ElysiumA CRPG with options which influence the outcome of the different events, though most of them aren't actually fundamental to the story itself. You star as a detective who is drunk and drugged and cannot remember anything other than what people tell you, there has been a hanging and you need to find the culprit and why. Died many times due morale because I couldn't understand the system itself, then because I lacked money to buy morale healing items but after that it went well enough. The story is cool but it can get tiresome having to read that many times. Played on Switch 2 and it crashed after 3 or 4 quick savings and reloads. Got one of the two best ending in less than 35 hours.

Saints Row 3I heard it's a GTA parody, and yes, it felt like it. Main issue personally was to understand which missions had to be done in order to advance the story, apparently I had the full package with all the DLC and so I spent quite a lot of time doing DLC missions that weren't required to finish the game. Some missions were extremely hard, eventually I understood some of the mechanics but in the end I had to enable cheats for infinite health to be able to finish certain sections where you were just spammed with damage. It's not a GTA game and the story is all over the place but I liked it, would have appreciated it being shorter, though. About 19 hours to get 63%.

Shuttlecock-HNo idea when I bought this one, I think back when they were to censor a game or remove it from the eshop I bought most ones from EastAsiaSoft in case they were delisted. This one doesn't even have a "proper" ending so basically beat every stage and accumulate enough stars to unlock all the extra stages and unlocking the gallery should be enough. Game itself is just bullet hell, evading bullets while collecting items and surviving til the end, not much. And the last image for each girl which would be the "ecchi" one is censored so not much in terms of rewards. Better off buying anything else. Finished in 3 hours.

Divers (UFO50)You control 3 lizards that explore the the sea. The objective isn't clear, you just need to reach the bottom. There is a miniboss about halfway and the final boss at the bottom. You get money and experience when killing sea stuff, sometimes get some gems which you use to buy weapons, shields or items in a shop. Every character can only carry two things at a time so finding the perfect combination of items is important. Took me a little less than 6 hours to beat the final boss after which you get the outro. Game is saved by going back to the surface. A few secret things here and there but very minimalistic.

Grimstone (UFO50)An Western-like RPG. You control a party of 4 (chosen from 7 characters at the beginning of the game) and start on a revenge against those who killed your leader. The story unfolds in such a way that literally you end up in a battle between angels and demons with a twist at the end. Took me 20 hours and a bit more, just a little more to make it my most played UFO50 game above Overbold. The overworld map is huge, there are many towns to visit, equipment is limited but enough and the combat system is about hitting the button at the right time, some weapons hit up to 3 times so you need to press the button up to 3 times. And the ending, top notch.

Immortals Fenyx RisingA heavy game (~16gb) so I had to finish it on Switch 2 to free space. Crashed a few times, fortunately no progress lost. Game is cool but repetitive, lots of puzzles everywhere (which I saw some didn't like). I didn't finish every sub-mission but I can see many hours more of playing available. You end up using the same skills so only improving stamina and health is enough to beat the game. Now, the dialogs are extremely cheesy, Zeus is like an idiot throwing jokes everywhere... I'm over 10 so I was not the target audience but I enjoyed it regardless. Put about 64 hours in total (easy mode) according to ingame clock,

The Wanderer: Frankenstein's CreatureI've bought this game way back two years ago but never played it. It's a short game, took me I think 2 hours and a half to finish. You are Frankenstein (seen as a hooded guy) and must find out your creator. Only the names match the original work, though. As a monster you need to escape from some villagers, then steal an encyclopedia to study and learn the language and continue exploring until you find your creator. It's very artistic, most stages look to be hand drawn. The ending has a cute twist. Controls are odd, game is kind of isometric but with laggy input, to get near a window it takes several taps just to get the monster walking.

Akiba's Trip: Hellbound & DebriefedAlong The Wanderer I had bought both this and Undead & Undressed so I decided to give it a try. You are saved by a vampyre-like entity that makes you supernatural, then you are contracted by an organization trying to eliminate them all. You move through small sections of Akihabara fighting them and finishing some missions to advance the visual novel-like sections where there are some decision making but that doesn't seem to affect the ending that much (though game said there were multiple endings). You fight by removing clothes from enemies so that they get burned by sunlight. Shallow and predictable. Spent a bit over 11 hours to finish it.

Nonograms ProphecyExtremely simple, something more like a Flash game than a Switch game. It got a few good things like pressing L+R to fill a column or row when all the elements are the same. But that is all. The worst thing is that the hint numbers are scratched from first to last one, always, so if you have hints "1 2 3 1" and you turn one square on at the beginning of the row it will scratch the first 1, however if you turn one square on at the end of the row it will turn the first 1 too. If you scratch two it will scratch the 2 even if there is nothing else in the row, it assumes it's the 2. And because of that sometimes some values stay on even after you finish the stage. 138 puzzles but the last ones are of awful quality, most of the 20x20 boxes are filled with empty spaces. About 7 hours and a half to finish.

Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed Director's CutIt's a much more refined Akiba's Trip experience, areas are now connected and don't need to access the map to reach them, there's transition (though with a load screen) between areas, there are more areas, more NPCs, more enemy variety, more shops, etc. It looks like an alternate storyline where the protagonist becomes a "super hero". The game isn't that long, about 14 hours and got the best final with one of the girls, there are other 3 or 4 available. Battle is fast paced though repetitive, hit them in one of three spots til their clothes flash red and then strip them from their clothes. It has a New Game+ option which highlights which answers are the best to be appreciated by every girl. Kudos for licensing the YouTube preview of Kamenjoshi's "Fanfare" and for being so faithful to Akibahara even including a battle against the 48 girls of "AKW" and "NMW".

Slave Zero XDeluxe version was released with a buggy price on Argentine estore, bought it and a month they removed both versions and never restored them. I played a stage back when it was released then quit. Gave it a go again now and yes, it's not something I'd personally buy at full price. It's a DMC in 2D (backgrounds are in 3D with some rotations like around corners), there's parry and you have a Fatal mode which is like the Demon Form. Bosses and minibosses are pretty hard. Took me 9 hours plus maybe 30 minutes from last year when I tried it out. Game froze twice in loading screen and it crashed once right after beating the final boss, fortunately it saved immediately after and there was a final "escape" sequence to play from where I continued. Unlocks CC mode (waves of enemies) on beating the game.

Appreciate the 2026 thread.

And with that, I just finished a game today:

1) Doom 64: Unseen Evil (Steam Deck)

hq720.jpg

This is a Doom mod that brings both Doom 1 and 2 campaigns together, D64-style, into it's own quasi-Doom 64 sequel (or prequel) with some good additions of it's own and enemy types from all 3.

Here are all of the features:

  • The full Doom 64 arsenal at your disposal, including the Unmaker
  • All monster behaviors from Doom 64 recreated as faithfully as possible
  • Missing monsters reimagined in the Doom 64 style: the Chaingunner, the Revenant, the Arch-vile, and the Spider Mastermind
  • Quality of life improvements, including new sounds, new weapon animations, and customizable settings
  • The Terraformer: a powerful system that comprehensively transforms any Doom/Doom II level into a Doom 64-style level
  • Redemption Denied: an exclusive difficulty level that implements monster spawns from PSX Doom (and other surprises) into the vanilla Doom levels

This game fixes two issues I just couldn't get over with the original Doom 1 and 2, both of which involving level perspective and 3D space. Since it's in the graphical style of Doom 64, it feels more 3D due to that. This includes each level's puzzles and secrets, and it changed the way that one would interact those puzzles and secrets with obvious platforming included. It all just felt much more natural to me.

The original Doom 1 and 2 I would have given a solid B, which a lot of Doom fans might be puzzled by. These changes however, raise it up a full score and they make me fully appreciate Doom 1 and 2 in my own way, with an added plus due to the QoL additions and changes.

The original Doom 64 remains as a solid A to me. The HD Remaster brought it up to an A+. This is now equal to that.

Rating: A+

I will make it this time. Reserving my spot.

I really wish we wouldn't split the community with multiple goal threads. It's the journey, not the destination.
The other thread was mainly created for RPG-gamers due to the impossibility finishing 52 RPGs within a single year.

I get what you mean though.

Staking my claim! :p so in the immortal words of Fergie "Let's Get The Party Started…..In Herreeeeee"

1. Mortal Kombat II (32X) - PS5 (via MK Legacy Kollection), est. Playtime: 45 mins, beat the Arcade Tower on Medium Difficulty w/Scorpion on 1/1/26
I'm a long time fan of the series (I remember playing MK 1, 2, & UMK 3 in the Arcades before experiencing them on the Sega Genesis a year or so after each release) and of the original games I have the fondest memories playing the Genesis versions of Mortal Kombat II & Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. So I was tickled to death when I got the MK Legacy Kollection for Christmas and be able to revisit these games on formats I'd never experienced them on such as MK II for the Sega 32x. Now funilly enough at the time I did have a 32x (we had 3 games for it, DOOM, Cosmic Carnage, & After Burner II), but since I already had Mortal Kombat II for the Sega Genesis I never picked up/played the 32X version of the game until now and I gotta say it's imo a pretty good port of the Arcade version.

2. Mortal Kombat 3 (Arcade) - PS5 (via MK Legacy Kollection), est.Playtime: 1hr 30 mins, beat the Arcade Tower on both Novice & Warrior difficulty w/Cyrax as well as won hidden fights with Smoke & Noob Saibot on 1/1/26
When it comes to Mortal Kombat 3, it along with Mortal Kombat 4, are the only games in the series that I never played at the arcade so my only experience with them were the Sega Genesis & PS1 ports so finally experiencing the Arcade version of Mortal Kombat 3 was interesting. My only gripe with the game was that it didn't have several main stay characters such as Scorpion, Reptile, Johhny Cage, Kitana, & Mileena so I ended up maining Cyrax, Sub-Zero, & Smoke. When it came to the 2 towers I managed to breeze through the Novice tower without much trouble, but the Warrior tower gave me a bit of a challenge except for when it came to the Shao Kahn fight as I was able to cheese the ever living f*** out of Cyrax's Net attack for most of the match. Overall I enjoyed my time with MK 3 and while I was somewhat disappointed I didn't get the chance to do a stage fatality in the Bell Tower stage, but my favorite aspect of the game was the introduction of combos to the series.

3. Mortal Kombat 3 (SNES) - PS5 (via MK Legacy Kollection), est. Playtime: 45 mins, beat the Arcade Tower on Warrior difficulty w/Cyrax on 1/1/26
When it comes to the home console version of Mortal Kombat 3 I only ever played the Sega Genesis version of the game so it was very interesting to see how different the SNES version was compared to not only the Arcade version but also the Genesis version. Overall (and as a die hard Genesis kid I hate to say it but) the SNES version while easier than the Arcade & Genesis versions on Medium difficulty was a little bit more faithful to the Arcade version than the Genesis port was.

4. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Arcade) - PS5 (via MK Legacy Kollection), est. Playtime: 45 mins, beat the Arcade Tower on Warrior difficulty w/Scoprion as well as won a hidden fight with Noob Saibot on 1/1/26
I have a lot of fond memories playing this game in the Arcades and it's by far my favorite iteration of Mortal Kombat 3 as it adds some fighters missing from the original MK 3 (including my favorite character Scorpion) as well as make some improvements on/additions to the original Mortal Kombat 3 such introducing Brutalitoes.

5. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (SNES) - PS5 (via MK Legacy Kollection), est. Playtime: 1 hr 15 mins, beat the Arcade Tower on Warrior difficulty w/Human Smoke on 1/1/26
Of the home console versions of Ultimate MK 3 the only one I had played prior to today was the Genesis version and if I'm being honest it's still my favorite home version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 even after playing the SNES version for the very first time. I don't know if it was due to the overwhelming nostalgia I have for that version of UMK 3 or the fact that I hit something of a wall (I'm thankful that I'm playing this version via the MK Legacy Kollection as the rewind feature, which I tried to use as sparingly as possible throughout my playthroughs of these games, really helped me get through some parts where the AI was really cheating) during my playthrough of the game, but I still prefer the Genesis version of UMK 3 over the SNES version.

6. Mortal Kombat Trilogy (PS1) - PS5 (via MK Legacy Kollection), est. Playtime: 1 hr, beat the Arcade Tower on both Novice & Warrior difficulty with Sub-Zero & Scorpion on 1/1/26
Between this version and the N64 version of MK Trilogy the one I have the most nostalgia for is ironically the version I (up until last year) never owned, which was MK Trilogy for the N64. The reason I have the most nostalgia for the N64 version is because my sister, cousins, & I would play this (and Goldeneye) a lot whenever we were visiting our cousins. When it came time for my cousins to visit my sister & I we didn't play the PS1 version of MK Trilogy (which we did own), but rather played the Tekken games also by that time MK 4 had come out so I didn't really play a lot of the PS1 of MK Trilogy. So it was nice to finally revisit this version of MK Trilogy for the first time in about 15+ years.

7. Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (PS1) - PS5 (via MK Legacy Kollection), est. Playtime: 5-6 hrs, beat the game & spared both Scorpion & Sareena on 1/7/26
This is one of the few games in the series I'd never played before despite knowing about it since the day it came out and the main reason why I never played it til now was because I'd heard just how bad it was so I avoided it (along with MK: Special Forces) like the plague. Now that I've finally played & beaten the game I'm so glad that I waited to play a version that included the ability to rewind the game/reverse your mistakes cause that made things a little less stressful despite having to consult a guide during certain parts since the game doesn't tell you shit. Overall I'm glad that I no longer have to play this game (I got the 3 Trophies associated with the game) and can finally scratch it off the list of MK games I've never played.

8. Mortal Kombat: Special Forces (PS1) - PS5 (via MK Legacy Kollection), est. Playtime: 5 hrs, beat the game and earned all related trophies on 1/8/26
Just like with MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero I, prior to today, had never played this game and unlike with MK Mythologies the reason I didn't play this game for so long is because the premise didn't really excite/interest me. Though just like with MK Mythologies I was kinda glad I had waited to play/skipped playing this game for so long, but not because it was just as bad as Mythologies (it's honestly imo mediocre at best) but rather cause if I had played this game when it first came out I would've been disappointed. Mainly due to how short the game was & the shitty boss fights that you can easily win (if you can get close to them first that is) by spamming simple combos. Honestly I had fun running around beating up thugs and the (for Playstation 1 Standards) large levels you're given to explore, but other than that everything else about this game is mediocre imo.

9. Mortal Kombat 4 (Arcade) - PS5 (via MK Legacy Kollection) est. Playtime: 45 mins, beat the Arcade Tower on Warrior Difficulty w/Scorpion and earned the Platinum Trophy for the MK Legacy Kollection on 1/9/26
Of the 4 MK games that came out in the Arcades this and Mortal Kombat 3 are the only ones I didn't play when they came out and instead had one of their home console ports be my first experience with them. So it was somewhat interesting to finally play the original Arcade version of this game considering the home console versions had more playable characters, some additional modes and (if I remember correctly) not as cheap/cheating as the Arcade version was. Other than those 3 things the Arcade version was pretty close to the home console version and outside of the cheating AI (I did a few additional attempts at beating the Arcade Towers with different characters, but the cheating was so egregious that I only finished one Arcade Tower) I really enjoyed revisiting Mortal Kombat 4 (in general) for the first time since 1999.

10. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - PS5, est. Playtime: 21 hrs ,beat the game on Normal Difficulty with 80% Trophy completion & 92% Overall Completion on 1/12/26
I'm a big fan of the Indiana Jones movies, but the video games not as much so I was cautiously optimistic when this game was announced. Now that I've played it I gotta say this has got to be one of the best if not the best Indiana Jones games I've played. I enjoyed playing the game so much that I plan on getting & playing the DLC campaign Order of the Giants as well as 100% complete the game.

11. Street Fighter EX3 - PS2, est. Playtime: 1 hr 30 mins, beat Original Mode 8+ times on Normal Difficulty and unlocked all hidden characters except for Evil Ryu & M.Bison II on 1/13/26
When it comes to the EX games my only real experience prior to playing this game was Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha, which I had a lot of fond memories playing. Now when it comes to this game I honestly have no memory of ever playing it prior to this playthrough though it could be that this entry was imo extremely forgettable. I was able to zip through most of my multiple playthroughs without using a single continue on Normal/Medium difficulty and was able to unlock all but 2 of the hidden characters in the process so as far as fighting games go it imo wasn't really deep. I'd say this would be a mild curiousity for fans of the Street Fighter series and not much else, imo if you had to play one of the 2 EX games to make it to home consoles I'd say you're better off playing Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha than this game.

12. Dr. Mario (GameBoy) - Switch 2 (via NSO Subscription), est. Playtime: 1 hr, beat the game on Low speed on 1/22/26
It's been a very long time since I'd last played this game (1995ish) and I honestly don't know what possessed me to play this game, let alone play it long enough to get to the Congratulations screen for beating the first 20 levels. All I know was that I was browsing the GameBoy NSO app for a short game to play to kill some time (taking a sh!t, waiting in line, waiting while your car's getting worked on, etc.) and for some reason this was the game that spoke to me. I will say that 35 mins of my playthrough were spent on the last 2 levels which were hard as f*** even on low speed.

13. Capcom Arcade Stadium: Street Fighter II (Arcade) - Switch 2, est. Playtime: 30 - 45 mins, beat the game w/Ryu on 1/22/26
It's been a while since I've played the original Arcade version of Street FIghter II and lets just say that I'm not a big fan of this iteration of Street Fighter II, especially it's controls (which felt slow/sluggish to me), but the Capcom Arcade Stadums added a couple of interesting quirks (like rewind, super speed, super slowmo, & 3 challenge modes) that made it an interesting playthrough. Honestly this game is a skip especially if you already have the better iterations such as Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Ultra Street Fighter II, or the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection.

14. Capcom Arcade Stadium 2: Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Arcade) - Switch 2, est. Playtime: 30 mins, beat the game w/Ryu on 1/22/26
Out of all the Alpha games Alpha 3 is by far my favorite of the bunch especially the PS1 & PSP versions and I like it so much it's one of the few games (such as Streets of Rage 2, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Metal Gear Solid, Super Mario Bros 3, and Resident Evil 3) that I will willingly quadruple dip on (I have the PS1, PSP, & 2 different compilations that include it for the Switch/Switch 2) so that I can play it when the mood strikes me. Well after being somewhat disappointed with the arcade version of Street Fighter II that was included in Capcom Arcade Stadium 1 I felt the need to pop into the second volume/iteration of Capcom Arcade Stadium to play it's version of Street Fighter Alpha 3 and satisfy my fighting game fix for now. Even though this is not my favorite version of Street Fighter Alpha 3 (the PS1 version is my favorite, but that's because I haven't played much of the PSP version which is supposed to be the ultimate/most complete version of the game & I have a ton of nostalgia for the PS1 version) it was still a satisfying (although relatively short) playthrough that definitly hit that fighting game itch for me.

15. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound - Switch, est. Playtime: 10+ hours, beat the game on Normal difficulty with a overall B rank on 2/6/26
I picked up this game last year along with Shinobi: Art of Vengeance because I love 2D platformers and was itching for a good 2D Ninja game, but since I couldn't decide on which one to get I went with both. Going into this game I honestly thought it would be the better of the 2 games, but I was wrong, I actually liked Shinobi: Art of Vengeance a hell of a lot more than I did this game. Which was kinda shocking to me since DotEmu (the devs behind Streets of Rage 4, which I absolutely love) made it, plus I usually like the 2D Ninja Gaiden games over the 2D Shinobi games I've played. Though with that said this game isn't a bad game at all, gameplay was solid and it's an interesting side story set during the events of the original Ninja Gaiden. It for whatever reason just didn't vibe with me like Shinobi: Art of Vengeance did.

16. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Anniversary) - PS5 (via Sonic Origins Collection), est. Playtime: 3-4 hrs, beat the game with Sonic & all Chaos Emeralds on 2/26/26
I've been a long time fan of the Blue Blur and have fond memories playing & beating the original Sonic the Hedgehog games on the Sega Genesis all the way up to the day my Genesis died (f*** you NFL QB Club for killing my Genesis) so much so that I end up making up excuses to justify regularly revisit them. In this instance I'm revisiting them because I want to 100% complete the Sonic Origins Collection and earn the game's Platinum trophy which requires playing through all the games in the collection, 100% completing the in game museum, complete a set amount of challenge missions w/ S rank, do specific things (like getting a Jackpot in Sonic 2's Casino Night Zone) in each game within the collection, etc. Beating Sonic 2 and getting all it's related trophies now puts me one game away (Sonic 3 & Knuckles) from getting the last 3 trophies(Kill 10 Rhinobots, beat Sonic 3 & Knuckles, clear all 4 games) I need in order to get the Platinum trophy & 100% the Sonic Origins Collection.

17. Resident Evil 9: Requiem - PS5, est. Playtime: 11 hrs, beat the game on Modern Standard (Normal) difficulty with 36 of 50 Trophies earned on 3/1/26

18 Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater - PS5, est. Playtime: 9 hrs 43mins, beat the game on Normal difficulty with Modern gameplay, no kills & no alerts (Chameleon rank) on 3/12/26

19, Darkstalkers Ressurection - PS3, est. Playtime: 3 + hrs, beat both Night Warriors & Darkstalkers 3 Arcade mode on Normal Difficulty on 3/15/26
I'm not really into the Darkstalker series, but while awaiting the arrival of my copy of the Fatal Frame II Remake I decided to hop onto my PS3 to play a short game and that's when I remembered that I had done a blind purchase of this game years ago before it was pulled from the PS3 PSN store. So I decided it was time to finally give it a proper go and now that I've played both games that were included I can say that I'm still not really a fan of the Darkstalker games. Of the 2 games I only really enjoyed one of them (Night Warriors), but that's because I didn't care for the cheap enemy AI and the instant round setup (as soon as a health bar is depleted the game instantly goes into the next round without a pause or warning) in Darkstalkers 3.

20. Fatal Frame II Remake - PS5, est. Playtime: 20 hrs, beat the game on normal difficulty with about 75% overall completion on 4/5/26

21. Doom Eternal - PS5, est. Playtime: 20+ hrs, beat the game on Normal/Hurt Me Plenty difficulty with about 80% overall completion on 4/9/26
I have a spotty history with the Doom games as I've played just about every single one of them that's come out, but have only beaten 3 (if you include this one) of them (the other 2 being "Shareware" Doom aka Doom Episode 1 & Doom 2016) so far and to date my favorite one is Doom 2016. As for this game, well it's currently my least favorite one of the 3 games in the series I've beaten. I love the core combat, gore, level design and lore that added with this game & Doom 2016, but I absolutely hate the constant & at times insanely difficult combat arenas. The reason being they randomly ramp up in difficulty mid fight, don't feel even remotely satisfying once you beat them like they (imo) did in Doom 2016, and feel like they ramped up the difficulty just as a f*** you to the player. Due to this and hearing that the DLC essentially ramps it up even more than the base game I probably won't be touching the game's DLC at all.

22. Sonic Chaos - Game Gear (via Mega SG Game Gear Adapter), est. Playtime: 2 hrs, beat the game with all 6 Chaos Emeralds on 4/22/26
For my birthday in late1994 I got a blue Sega Game Gear along with this game (my birthday cake was also Sonic themed and there is a photo somewhere of me & my grandparents sitting in front of that cake) & Disney's The Lion King and absolutely loved it even though I never really beat it. While I no longer have that Game Gear (and I'm kicking my self for not keeping as it's apparently now hard to find) or that particular copy of the game I recently acquired a Mega SG Game Gear/Master System Card ver 1.1 adapter set and a bundle of Game Gear games that included it along with Sonic 1 & 2, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, & X-Men: GameMaster's Legacy. So of course the first game I had to pop into my Mega SG using the Game Gear adapter was Sonic Chaos and for my first playthrough of the game in over 20 years I got all the way to the final zone of the game (but without any of the Chaos Emeralds cause I'd forgotten you needed to get 100 coins to access the special zones where they were hidden and wouldn't realize it until my next playthrough) when I hit a game over. My second attempt went a lot better as I had managed to get all the chaos emeralds (though I litterally got the last one I could possible get on the next to last act) as well as rack up a lot of continues in the process. Which ended up being a good thing as the final phase of the final boss was a one hit instant kill face off between Sonic & Robotnik and I died so many times that it came down to the final life on my final continue when I managed to finally 1 hit kill the sob before he could 1 hit killed me then collect only chaos emerald you get from a boss fight to end the game with the "Good Ending". Overall I enjoyed my time revisiting this game even though it was relatively short and a breaze to play through until I got to the final phase of the final boss fight.

23. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - Game Gear (via Mega SG Game Gear Adapter), est. Playtime: 2 hrs, beat the game on 4/22/26
This was one of the games that came in a bundle of Game Gear games I had bought after getting the Game Gear ver. 1.1 adapter for my Mega SG system and if I'm being honest this is only the second Power Rangers video game I've played & beaten (the other being Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid) which is a bit shocking cause I was a big fan of the first couple of seasons of the show (I especially loved the Green Ranger Saga) as a kid. Now as far as Game Gear games go I don't have a lot of reference in terms of quality/playablility cause prior to getting this bundle of Game Gear games I only really had 3 games (Disney's The Lion King, Sonic Chaos, & X-Men: GameMaster's Legacy) for the system and 2 of the 3 were really hard/difficult games, but I will say that outside of the random difficulty spikes (which I really hated as all of sudden bad guys you were easily beating were kicking your @$$ so badly you couldn't get a single hit in) I really enjoyed playing this game. I also enjoyed it that it included five playable characters, that you could unlock a sixth (The Green Ranger) just by progressing through the game, and that it tried (and imo succeeded for the most part) to capture the essence of the show, the music, & zords.

24. Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition - PS5 (via Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection), est. Playtime: 2+ hrs, beat the game as Grant on 4/27/26
As a kid I loved Jurassic Park and I also loved the 2 (out of 3) games that came out for the Sega Genesis even though I had never been able to beat the second game (and hadn't even known about the 3rd game until a few years ago), Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition. So when Limited Run Games came out with a collection of classic Jurassic Park games (minus the 3rd game for the Sega Genesis) buying it was a no brainer and after playing the NES Jurassic Park game last year (which I am not a fan of) I decided to finally tackle this game. Now I don't know if this is the nostalgia talking or not, but I kinda prefer the first Jurassic Park game for the Sega Genesis over this game even though it's essentially more of that game but with some tweaks. Though I will say that final level w/the T-Rex river boat chase was (once I got a groove on/gameplan) kinda fun and I also liked a few of the game's level design (such as the ship stage) compared to the first game.

25. Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition - PS5 (via Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection), est. Playtime: less than 2 hrs, beat the game as the Raptor on 4/27/26
Playing the gane's Raptor campaign was imo a lot easier than playing Grant's campaign and I'm honestly shocked at just how quickly I was able to zip through the game's campaign as the Raptor.

26. TMNT 3: Radical Rescue (GameBoy) - PS5 (via TMNT Cowabunga Collection), est. Playtime: 3+ hrs, beat the game on 5/1/26
This game continues the trend of the GameBoy TMNT games getting more & more difficult as they came out as well as continuing my dislike of these games. Unlike the other GameBoy TMNT games this game was basically a strategy guide game because there are some things (like each Turtle having a special ability needed to advance to the next area) that the game doesn't tell you and if not for the fact that the TMNT Cowabunga Collection (thankfully) included a strategy guide (a tips section & the game's full map w/item locations) I probably would have raged playing this game (especially if I had played it as a kid on a GameBoy) as it combines the enemy mechanics/philosophy from the first NES TMNT game (lots of enemies on screen and the instantly respawn when you walkaway & come back towards where they were) with the map & basic gameplay philosophy of a Metroid game. If they had removed the TMNT NES enemy mechanics/philosophy, did a better job designing the map, and communicated within the game that each turtle had a different ability then I probably would've loved this game as everything else about the game (especially for a game on the GameBoy) was really good, hell they even managed to squeeze in a version of the TMNT theme song into the game.

27. TMNT Tournament Fighters (SNES) - PS5 (via TMNT Cowabunga Collection), est, Playtime: 1 hr, beat the game on 5/1/26
As a kid I was a die hard fan of the TMNT, but outside of the oringal NES game & the NES version of the Arcade game I'd never really played any of the other TMNT games especially the TMNT fighting games. Which is kind of shocking considering I was also a big fan of fighting games when these games came out, but after playing the NES version of this game and now the SNES version I'm kinda glad I didn't as it would have infuriated me given how bad they were. The only positive thing is that the SNES version actually had something of a story and that they had a decent sized roster of fighters.

28. Jaws (NES) - PS5 (via Jaws Retro Edition) est, Playtime: 45mins, beat the game and got all but 1 game related trophy on 5/2/26
While not the best game it's one of the few LJN games (the other being Friday the 13th) that I have a lot of nostalgia for and one of the few LJN games I remember beating back in the day. So it was nice to revisit the game with some minor modern conviences like rewind & save states even though I didn't even really need it considering I beat it from start to finish in under an hour.

29. Jaws Enhanced - PS5 (via Jaws Retro Edition), est. Playtime: 3+ hrs, beat the game and got all game releated trophies except for the Platinum trophy on 5/2/26
I was originally going to count the Jaws Retro Edition as one game, but upon playing the enhanced version of Jaws (which is exclusive to this release) and seeing how much they expanded & improved upon the NES original made me realize that it's almost a completely different game. So much so that it had it was split into 4 chapters, had side quests, and a more in-depth upgrade system added on top of the rewind & save state features. While it was an impressive improvement over the original game I wouldn't recommend picking up the Jaws Retro Edition unless it's on sale or you just really love the NES game cause this was a really short experience.

Can't share that info on here, but I just squeeze in gaming when I can. Not always easy and I really fell off the last half of the year. Still, overall productive and I'm hoping to play/finish more games this year.

Okay first 2 of 2026. Going to start with SNES games over the next couple weeks.

1. The Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse - Very simplistic and easy action platformer with some decent ideas and nice sprite work. Mickey gets costumes throughout the game that provide him abilities to use throughout the levels. These are sometimes used in smart ways, but mostly feels unrealized due to this being a short game that leans on the easy side.

2. The Great Circus Mystery starring Mickey & Minnie - Sequel to Magical Quest that's less interesting, easier, and at the same, somehow more frustrating to play.

My first game is Super Mario Land on the Game Boy. Love this game and especially how snackable it is. I'm most likely going to finish it atleast another 10-20 times this year during train rides, flights etc. My fav Game Boy title by a long shot hehe

I don't know that I have it in me to get 52 again this year, but good luck to all of you.

But if I do.... consider this my saved spot.
Hey, and my medal only says 2, but I've completed this 3 times: 2017, 2024, and 2025.

March 9 update:
So I actually have beat a few games. I wasn't logging, so I don't have exact dates for anything I beat aside from Tears of the Kingdom. Maybe I will give this year a crack.

1: Ball x Pit - PC
I liked it, but not as much as I thought I would. I got really bored with it about half way through.

2: Final Fantasy (Pixel Remaster) - Switch
I actually never played this one before. My first Final fantasy game was "2" on the SNES. From that point, I've at least played all of them that were released in the US. I liked this a lot. Some minor issues, but it's easy to see how it saved Square. It made me want to pick up Stranger of Paradise since I know they're connected, so I'll probably play that one later this year.

3: WWE 2K25 - Switch 2
Picked this one up on the Switch for the portable play. My son and I love to play wrestling games together, so it was nice to have when we were out and about. Beat the showcase mode pretty much right away. Very weak showcase. Maybe it's because the Bloodline stuff isn't really interesting to me, but the unlocks were lame and the the Paul Heyman introductions were the worst part of the game. Tired of them shoving the Samoans down everybody's throat. Gameplay was a step in the right direction, but the reversal system is aggravating. I liked it better when there were reversal limits.

4: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - Switch via Switch 2
I love the Hyrule Warriors games. About the only Warriors games that I've ever been interested enough to finish. I liked that it went in an alternate history direction... and that's all I'll say about the story. Great game and I really enjoyed my time with it. Grabbed Age of Imprisonment, but I'm going to have to play that later this year because I'm Zelda'd out because...

5: Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Switch 2 edition - Beat 3/9
Took everything I enjoyed about BOTW and amped it up. The world is great and the gameplay is fantastic. The story was a big leap up from BOTW, also. And the dungeons are much more in line with what I expect from a Zelda game. The final boss fight was my favorite in the series, and the ending scenes were great. I absolutely loved this game, and I'm glad I shelved it after launch and waited for the Switch 2. But after dumping 100+ hours into this, I need to play some smaller games. I'm absolutely spent.

There may be some more that I forgot about, and I'll update if anything jogs my memory.
I've been working on Judgement on my PS5 off and on for a few months. Maybe I'll finish that one next.

3/11 Update:
Yeah, so I haven't booted Judgement at all. but ...

6: Cast n Chill - Switch 2 - Beat 3/11
Nice relaxing game. Reminds me of fishing with my dad when I was a kid. Minus all the yelling, of course.

I personally don't put online-only games on my "52 Games a Year" list if they lack a dedicated story mode or a clear beginning and finish line. There is no way I would ever consider putting the newest seasons of Overwatch, CS2, League Of Legends, Valorant, just to name a few online-only games I play on this list. No matter how many hours I spend playing them. But games like Path Of Exile or Diablo are different, you're playing through a story and have a point where you can say ok I am actually done with the game and I finished what it was offering to me during this season. While Arc Raiders technically, currently features 72 quests, which form an interconnected story chain, they aren't the reason for me to put the game on this list.

The true narrative of Arc Raiders doesn't live in a quest log, it lives in what I call "The Moments." In this game, you aren't just a player. You are the director, the writer, the editor, and most importantly, the lead actor in a story of your own making. I have had moments in this game where the environment and the players scared the living hell out of me. The atmospheric dread, forcing you into "Extreme Dark" modes where every decision feels life-or-death is something I have not experienced to this degree, prior to Arc raiders.

Do you turn your flashlight on to see the path ahead, instantly turning yourself into a glowing target for everyone else? Or do you keep it off, navigating the pitch-black map by wandering from one flickering red emergency light to the next? In those shadows, the built in proximity chat is your only lifeline. Hearing a stranger's voice muffled through a wall, debating whether to trust them or shoot them on sight, creates a tension that hasn't lost its charm on me even after 100+ hours.

Now to something I personally remember as the tragedy of Stellar Montis. The most memorable moment happened about 20 hours in. I had just started exploring Stellar Montis, a brutal, PvP-focused map. It was a Night Raid, which already dialed the anxiety up to eleven.

I loaded in at late half time. With only 16 minutes left on the clock, the map was eerily quiet, nothing like the prior rounds. I began looting stashes and destroying Arcs. My previous runs on this map had been bloodbaths, I hadn't managed to extract even once.

I had only five minutes to leave the map, I was panicking. The map felt like a labyrinth, I was still not familiar with its layout, I was hopelessly lost. That's when I saw them: piles of player bodies. Dozens of them. There was no sound of gunfire, just a graveyard of looted corpses, it must've happened before I loaded into the map.

Then, I heard the voice.

It was a player, weeping. He was begging for mercy, his voice cracking with genuine desperation. "Please don't finish me off... please, just look for a defib on one of the dead bodies. I just started playing, man. Please don't do this to me."

I froze. I had a choice: find the exit and save my loot, or risk everything to help a "new" player who sounded genuinely traumatized. He sounded so real, so broken, that I couldn't walk away, nope no way I would walk away. I checked my gear, shields at 100%, health full, magazines locked and loaded. I was going to be the hero he needed, the hero who save him and extract together.

My time being limited, I had no chance to come up with a detailed plan, the clock was ticking, we had to get to the exit of the map asap. I charged into the tiny room where the voice was coming from. Before I could even raise my sights, a figure stepped from the corner and leveled a shotgun at my chest. I was dead in less than a second.

The "victim" wasn't a new player. He wasn't even hurt. It was the same man, using his voice to lure players into his kill box. He had tricked me, just as he had tricked the ten-ish other players whose bodies were rotting outside his door.

The Aftermath...

Something in me broke that night. My mind struggled to process the level of calculated cruelty required to fake that kind of vulnerability. I went in expecting a "psycho murderer" and an innocent victim, instead, I found a predator who understood human empathy better than I did.

Arc Raiders has moved me more than almost any other game this year. While it might not reach the sheer polish of Expedition 33, Silksong, or Hades 2, it has an emotional grit that Mario Kart World, DK-Bananza or Spit Fiction simply can't match.

However, I'm done with Arc Raiders for now. I've conquered every map, survived every condition of those maps, finished all quests, finished both expeditions and all trials, even reached the level cap. I've unlocked every blueprint and finished both battle passes. I am putting the game down for now, but I am watching the horizon. The moment they add more content, I'll be the first one back in the dark, my flashlight off, listening for voices in the shadows hehe.

Wozzer Wozzer Add me to the OP! I updated the 2025 thread and sent you a DM. I want people to think I'm cool.

Game 1 - Pillars of Eternity (PS4) - 45h 40m
Beat 03/01/2026 - my score: 9/10

Game 2 - Pillars of Eternity - dlc The White March part I (PS4) - 09h 25m
Beat 06/01/2026 - my score: 7/10

And here I go.
Quite good start of 2026. Started PoE last year and must admit it is much better crpg, than I initially thought. Besides, finished first dlc, but need a little rest, before second part of The White March.

3. Magical Quest 3: Starring Mickey & Donald (SNES) - More of the same of the first 2 Magical Quest games. I'd rate this one better than 2, but not as good as 1.

4. Star Fox 2 - Fun game that builds on the original, but way too short and the difficulty is a joke. After playing it, it makes sense why it wasn't released. I couldn't imagine paying full price for this game in 1995.

Wrapping up Chrono Trigger and doing the end game side quests before Lavos. I should have it completed and added to the list tomorrow, hopefully.

God, I hope I never end up in that thread, since I view gaming as my main hobby and the hobby I'm having the most fun with. My personal goal for 2025 was 104 games, I really wanted to double the '52 goal' and hit triple digits just once. Even though I pushed hard, I 'only' finished 64. Still, I believe 52 games a year is absolutely achievable, even as we get into our 30s, 40s, 50s, or 60s (provided the body and mind are willing, of course!). Even with a busy daily schedule, I manage to squeeze in a session whenever and wherever possible.

I saw someone in the '12 games in 12 months' thread saying that 52 is nonsense, but I think that's only true if gaming isn't your primary hobby. Even with a job, family, and social life, 52 is absolutely doable. You just have to prioritize gaming over other hobbies. But hey, I respect anyone who treats gaming as a side hobby; that's perfectly fine. I just think calling the 52 games goal 'nonsense' is a bit harsh.

Depends on the genre.

I could easily clear 52 shooters, maybe within 6 months or less. I kind of almost did that last year which is why I easily went over 52.

But 52 RPGs? Especially anything over 80 hours or an MMO? That's an instant month or two schedule filled for just one or two games.
