I appreciate the Olympics for showing sports that usually don't get a spotlight. I could actually do without something like soccer or basketball.

Women's soccer I understand.. but who cares about men's soccer in the olympics?

It's great to see young talent to me.
What's the point of women's football when they have the same players of the world cup? Olympic football makes less money so just have the World Cup every 2 years and make the Olympics an u-23 tournament like the men's.

I love the long distance track events because it highlight some of humans' greatest physical traits.

We may not be as strong as a gorilla, or fast as a cheetah, but man, we can keeping walking and running long after other animals have collapsed from exhaustion. Humans are the world's greatest long distance runners.

Among the best anyway. There's actually an annual man vs horse marathon and the horses usually win. Sled dogs are pretty amazing runners too, better than humans, but they obviously run in the cold and wouldn't be able to cool themselves in a warmer climate.

I love then.

But to be completely honest I just love horses, I own quite a few and love to ride so I guess I'm biased?

I personally don't mind the horse sports. I think it's pretty fun to see that sort of unique stuff once in a while, even if it is a rich people hobby.

My wife rides, though she rides Cutting Horses, not English/Dressage. I totally get everything that's going on with the horses during dressage, and understand the mastery and training that goes into it. But holy fuck is it boring.

I generally dislike any event where there's no direct competition. Diving, skating, any of that stuff where the people are being rated. It's only for insiders that understand the subtlety going on. Yawn fest.
Tennis is more exciting than volleyball, imo. Rugby and Handball are really fun to watch.

Horse racing is boring.
It's not horse racing.

Not a coincidence that those are the two animals we we have domesticated into a symbiotic relationship.

Marathons are a bit on the short side for peak human endurance though. Humans can run for days without stopping, which is, I believe completely unique among animals. Of course that may be simply because humans are the only ones who can do it because we know that there is plenty of food at the end of the race so we are willing to waste those calories.

Need to have the athletes dress up.

And also gain the ability to float in mid-air.

The results imply most people prefer instant gratification (eg 100m) over anything else
Also prefering very visual/physical sports over more cerebral/intellectual sports

Non mainstream sports seem to score less well (kinda seems like a pleonasm written like that) while I think one of the great things about Olympkcs is that it gives exposure to longstanding and interesting sports which just lack money, marketing, etc. to be mainstream

Also I think it s sad that MMA has become so popular while legit, deeply rooted in tradition, with more positive values (ie no apology of violence and vulgarity) fighting sports such as wrestling and judo (which are also quite fun to watch imho) score badly

Also: i dont see any interest in having tier 4 football while it has already had so much exposure throughout the year and I think regular volleyball is super boring to watch
This is quite possibly the smuggest and most elitist post I've read all year.
