6600GT AGP:got to find the fastest/best one because I, too, want to play HL2.

Sparkle
Albatron
eVga
Leadtek
Gigabyte
XFX
Hmm.... Is XFX the only one out in AGP? If so, is there anything I should worry about the construction of XFX cards?

P4 3.4 HT
6800GT 256
1 gig'o'ram

HL2 performance could be better.

I'm mostly bitching about the larger scenes, some sections ran super smooth, but some outside portions, like with the buggy, dipped quite a bit. And dig that I'm being very conservative withh resolution and AA\AF.

Re: 6600GT or 6800LE
I would skip both and get the 6800nu. The 6600GT is about $200, good price for the performance, but you gave the 6800LE as an option too. The cheapest 6800LE I have seen is about $260. That was off of http://newegg.com. The cheapest 6800nu I have seen on newegg is $270. I would definitely opt for a 6800nu. And if you don't mind me suggesting one, I would go for the BFG 6800OC. Roughly half of them are unlockable (I have one and it's unlocked). Unlocking does NO damage to your card. If the pipelines don't work, then no worries. Just turn 'em off and you've still got a great card. Here, also, is a link of my 6800nu unlockable chart.

I highly recommend a 6800nu over a 6600GT or 6800LE. It has more staying power, with the 12 pipelines, and with the good chance of unlocking the other 4. If you have any questions on unlocking the pipelines, http://www.guru3d.com is a good source to read from, and me and mothow both have unlocked 6800nu's. Good luck with your decision!

Well, this is the only contention against the 6600GT. The 6800LE might be unlockable, but it's at least $70 more. Darnit, I expected only maybe $30 to $50 difference. For that extra < or = $70, I could buy another stick of RAM that I need. It seems to boil down to saving the extra seventy-plus dollars for something else, like gifts for others this holiday season.

I guess $220 6600 GT AGP + HL2 for $55 + some more ram is the best way to go for now. I don't think new engines or mods there-of are going to need anything more powerful. Sorry for my long posts about cards and if I seem to ramble, but I'm so happy and thankful that this card is here. By all means, if your income is disposable, go for the 6800LE or any 6800nu for the higher memory bandwidth and possibility of overclocking. Being faster than the 9800XT (which I wanted to possibly initially buy before you guys posted the picture below ), is the most worthy reason I can think of. HL2, here I come.

You do not need a balls-to-the-wall grfx card to play this game.

I don't know what XFX thing this is or why it says "Nintendo" on it.

And here's what I'm getting at that google image search couldn't find, 6600 GT AGP.

It came in the mail today. I'm downloading tech demos, and I'm waiting to reboot and play COD Single Player. ( HL2's not here, and probably won't be until next week.)

I hope this card is everything I'm wanting it to be.

Honestly - you dont need an 6800gt or x800xt/pro to play HL2. ...the engine is forgiving and very effiecent. Granit im running the game on a Athlon64 @2.5ghzOC,1gb DDR400 ram but my 9800 Pro runs this game very very nice at 1152x/2xAA/Tri and the rest of the details as high as they can go and i get a nice 50-60fps steady.

Though it isnt a bad time to upgrade with all the newer pc games demanding more lately. If i had to pick one - i'd go with the 6800GT, most bang for the buck.
