8 player mutiplayer Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Announced

i think it's 5 for all stages.

6 - 8 on special ones.

Way too chaotic in reality. Even considering a big scrren TV and that the game is running in 1080p.

Now the 3DS control method is perfectly justified. I can maybe actually do this with the controllers I have in my house!

Do you have a source I can check for this?
It's in the direct Voltaire.

To be honest i can be wrong but it was the way it was introduced. The announcer said you can play 5 players. Then started mentioning 6. When he talked about 8 it was specified as local only and in some special stages.

i think 5 would be the sweet spot given the resolution increase from 480P on previous games and the increased realt state of TV screens years after Brawl.

currently my apartment has 1 gamepad, 2 3DS', 2 gamecube controllers, 4 wii remotes/nunchuks, 2 classic controllers, and 0 wiiu pro controllers...

guess i need to plan out my arsenal...

As someone who's throwing a Smash party the day after launch...

Looks like nobody is going to have to pass a controller.

So fucking excited for this.

My typical hang out group is usually 5 people most of the time too, so this is just perfect for us.

I got a wii u pro, gamepad, and like 5 gamecube controllers, and some wii controllers too.

And we're going to have 3 adapters between all of us.

what about controllers?

anything goes or do it need to be specific controllers?
The controllers were treated in a separeted segment/fact. Pretty much everything from the Wii and adding Gamepad, Pro Controller and a 3DS.

it wasn't detailed how it will work in the 8 player mode.

Sorry, was must have skimmed that part in my excitement :P

It seems to be anything goes. It definitely had a bit of a feel of "that is a ridiculous number of players so you can just plug in whatever you have handy."

Only controller-specific thing seemed to be using the stylus in stage builder on the gamepad screen.

And the option to draw over the pictures you snap with the Gamepad.

This is the type of stuff the resistive screen of the Gamepad is good at and that Nintendo should have made standard in all of it's games. This and the stage builder are really strong cases for the Gamepad's existence.

Oh man, I *need* that GC controller adapter now. I have enough friends who can bring their own wireless controllers, the question is if we can wrangle 3-4 GC controllers and the adapter. I should go preorder the bundle.

4 x Ice Climbers + Fountain of Dreams = framerate drops on GameCube.

I can't wait to try to get the framerate to drop with 8 x Rosalina + Graphic intensive stage.

no wonder

Wait this isn't online but local only :/ smh :(

The most I had was 5 people at my friends home during melee

I gotta rewatch this but I'm gonna be emo

Lucky for those that live in dorms, I'm jelly

8 people can play smash together and no one has to pass the controller. The future is awesome.

Do you think it's even remotely realistic for 8 people to have a solid online multiplayer experience in a fighting game?

Basically a useless feature for me. I'm never going to have 8 people in my house, let alone have enough controllers to do so. I guess it's neat for people living in apartments or dorms.
