This might be a dumb question, but how do you know when a movie has good editing? You don't really know what was cut out or what footage they had to work with.

Editing is about the pacing and technique within scenes, and shot to shot. It's not only about what the director + editor took out, but what they left in, how long shots last, the artistry of how those sequences are stitched together, and/or the sheer technical aspects on display. Coherence between all aspects.
