8BitDo Pro 3 controller, Amazon pre order $69.99

Man, I really like that color. 8bitdo controllers are easily the best 3rd party option and honestly, better than any of the first party stuff at this point save for the Switch 2 Pro Controller. That said, I have the Xbox variant of the Pro 2 (cuz it came in white) and the d-pad feels a little off on that one. Could just be that one, though, as other controllers I've bought from them since have been fine in that regard.

But yeah, I made a point of it for a while with the Pro 2 to buy every color variant that came out, so I don't see why I wouldn't do that again with the 3. I really love these things.

Edit: holy shit, you can swap the buttons out so that you can have the Xbox or Ninty button layouts. That's amazing.

I'd love one to match my blue ultimate 2 and plus I'm curious if the shape and size will be more comfy for me .
Added bonus you can use the ben wa stick balls to play pussy prostate ping pong with your partner:messenger_ogre:

They've adressed all the cons Pro 2 had, imho.

TMRs, charging dock, 2.4G, swappable buttons, antifriction rings plus metal slider thingie on thumbsticks.

Hopefully they've improved trigger shafts.

It was plastic fantastic down there with a lot of friction in Pro 2. Trigger stops give me hope they've reworked them from the ground up.

Hopefully it reaches 600-1000Hz polling rate on sticks. Similarly to Ultimate 2.

125Hz in Pro 2 was laughably bad.

Hopefully TMRs are from HallPi rather than K-Silver. Much better quality.

More images here:

Including cloese ups on new dpad. Plus new grip texture and replacable ABXY buttons.

Is your thumb in a different position on one of your hands? 😂
No, but while the left stick is used about 90% of the time in almost every game, the right one is used significantly less in many genres. Overall, the asymmetrical stick placement is therefore more comfortable and ergonomic

We could argue about stick placment for hours and ergonomics.

There is also this stick placment fvi

And it has a myth it's superior to both PS and Xbox style stick placment 🥱🤷‍♂️.

Any reason why this brand is so preferred?

I purchased their Ultimate wired controller. Granted its budget option. But it was bad enough I sold it off. Especially joysticks. Quality wasnt as good. Large dead zones, not very smooth or precise feeling. Almost like a 360 / PS3 controller.

Edit: I messed up here. That design is just good for games that frequently use both analog sticks.

Symmetrical Sticks?

Sick Hugh Jackman GIF by First We Feast
You would be surprised as to how little of the 3rd party market bothers with symmetrical joysticks everybody and their mother just want to release Xbox controller clones.

Which is why I use I use the 8 Bitdo Pro 2 because PlayStation controllers got me used to this Joysticks setup.

You're right, I probably shouldn't have called it asymmetric. What really matters is the placement of the left stick, and here it's positioned correctly. Depending on the genre, this layout can actually be better, especially for 2D games where you rarely need the right stick. But for many 3D games, the Xbox layout is usually preferable. Either way, in total both are better than having both sticks placed at the bottom.
I like all stick placements. Controllers are my jam lately.

There's a lot of stuff to choose from.

Symmetrical controllers where in dire rate of improvments so I'm happy we get a new release.

The topic is vast. So I won't get into stick placement right now.

Maybe in the near future as there will be an OT sooner rather than later for that 🤞.

I'm 95% m+kb and 5% more than happy with my 8Bitdo Ultimate 2.

Better not, that would 100% be a console warrior shitshow.

Boyos, I was about to get either the Ultimate 2 or Pro2 but, I saw that you can actually connect a Dualsense to the Switch 2 using the 8bit Do V2 adapter ?

The thing is only 20 Eurodollars and I've already got 2 DSs for my PS5 so, maybe that's the right move instead of actually getting ANOTHER joypad ? I just don't have any space left in my room, thing is, how viable.of.an option is this ? Will I have to pair and re-pair the DS from the S2 to the PS5 every time ?

I love this layout.
Would be awesome if a good third party controller maker like 8bitdo would pick this up.

This vid says it does not.

"According to 8BitDo only Nintendo products can actually wake it from sleep right now".

Seems like Nintendo issue, rather than 8BitDo issue.

Yeah, regardless of whose fault it is or not. It doesn't matter. It's a hard pass for a switch controller without that ability. Nintendo really dicked third-partys is over with that, eh? It's really an essential feature.

Just a heads up : THERE IS a 3rd party joypad that can wake the Switch 2 and is - in fact - the 1st one to be able to do so, it's from...fuck if I remember, saw it a couple of days ago on a YT video where the guy SPECIFICALLY mentioned this.
Now, since this company was able to incorporate it, something tells me that it's software and not hardware related, maybe a future FW update for 8bit do's could actually fix this very specific problem ? Fuck knows, not even the Switch Pro 1 is able to do so so maybe it's the usual Nintendo fuxkery/super laziness that's at play here and not necessarily greed ? 🤔

Edit : found it

EasySMX will be putting out a model that can wake up the Switch 2, already up for preorders. I think this is something that will end up being cracked by Chinese engineers eventually.

Holy shit, TMR sticks, 1200Mah battery, HD RUMBLE, NFC support, gyro AND it can also wake up the console ? For 50 Eurodollars?

There's gotta be a catch somewhere 😁😄

The magnetized buttons are ingenious. It was such a pain playing fighters on Steam and getting prompts for a reverse layout that I switched the buttons of my Pro out myself. I don't understand the optional arcade joystick replacement, though. A normal arcade joystick is guided by your hand, not your thumb.

Actually I just used my Hori Mariopad pro controller and it does have that function. So it's at least allowed by Nintendo for Hori to use. I use that all the time instead of my Nintendo pro controllers. Not sure why Hori pads can have that function and not others? 🤔

Might be Nintendo allows some of third party controllers to use it - I don't know, maybe 8BitDo just gave it dismissed it with some BS.

Hopefully it's something they can add in an update. Although I don't have Switch 2 but it would be nice for those of you that have it :messenger_ok:.

Btw. I don't really dig EasySMX designs at all. X10 looks the best out of all ES offerings but it has Hall Effects.

Official licensing most likely.

The symmetrical sticks are 🤮. Also it needs to get officially licensed so you can turn on the Switch from sleep with the controller, like official Nintendo/ Hori pads can. It's really an essential feature.

I remember this stick placement literally not working for games like WW HD. I remember even commenting on it in a survey back in the day. The thumb can't be above the face buttons, because for example with how weapons/items are mapped in Zelda. It just doesn't work. I remember having to deliberately map the bow to the right trigger in WW HD because of the right thumbstick being where it was, otherwise I'd have to do weird things with my finger placement to make it work.

The current Switch layout works and is perfect. Same with Xbox. I could do the symmetrical lower sticks like PS but it's far less ideal.

I thought it would at least reach 500hz polling rate on 2.4Ghz dongle. 8BitDo is gonna 8BitDo, I see.

250Hz is still higher than Pro 2 and Elite Series 2.

Nevertheless I want to have this controller in my controller back log. Still it is just as disappointing for me as no Switch 2 wake-up for some.

I feel like it's listed under Bluetooth and has Bluetooth in name just for that reason.
