It’s 199….. something…. I’m playing SOTN on Saturn. It’s all Japanese so that make things a bit tricky but I’m getting through it all the same…… I hit marble gallery…... Had to stop and roll a spliff for this one while looking over my inventory….anybody else used to do that?….. Inventory and upgrading is a good time to roll one while you work out how you gonna kill whatever you gonna kill next. 😅

This one is for all the technical fighting game players among you. We watch each frame and react with precision and complexity….. and it’s even better when we face eachother. Remember the days when you fight a goid player and your heart beats a lil bit faster? All that practice on the console version then you come arcades and flex your muscle? Remover them days ? This one is for you if you do. Remember the Rush? Seeing VF2 in all its glorious motion…. Looking like something that would be impossible on a console….. but sega always found a way. Gotta love them.

I still need sega rally one and two in a yakuza game or something! 😫

The only intro that I never want to skip. It is so powerful even the scene, it literaly has the heart of a warrior for each character. Soul Edge.

This one is my very first Ps1 game and its in Japanese version and I love it. I hope they make a remake someday but with same intro music and scene with modern graphics.

IMO, the quintessence of 90s video games music awesomeness could be heard in early CD games on PCE-CD and Mega-CD. Here's one from Sol-Feace:

This.
‘90s video game composers: “All right, the actual game data is like… 10MB. We got 600+ MB for the music on the CD.”
*proceed to make actual, awesome game music with better quality than you could do with chiptunes and synths, that you couldn’t forget if you tried to*
2010 and beyond video games composers: “All right, we have no data constraints. We can do literally anything.”
*proceed to compose pompous, cheesy, samey movie orchestra music that gamers don’t even listen to while playing*

Alexander Brandon is amazing and did a lot of the cool 90s pc music (Deus ex,!unreal / unreal tournament / jazz jackrabbit)

Lots of synthwave music is a kind of carry over from the 90s pc game tracker music era.

Between that and western AAA games absolutely having to feature that new hyped rap song in their trailer, it's no wonder why I don't enjoy western game music anymore.

80/90's game music was actually the best of any gaming music!

Bow to your Master you Fools.

I remember getting that from the local shop for 50p! I played it to death, I've still got the cassette :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Entire Beast 1 soundtrack

Welcome is my ringtone, has been for years 👀

This era of gaming music is my favourite by a mile, there was so much variation and I still remember them all to this day, most C64 and Amiga tunes. Okay they may have sounded a tad similar but they always conveyed the game they were attached to..

Almost forgot two of my favourites :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Sensible Soccer/Championship Soccer 94 on the Mega CD/SEGA CD had some of the best title music ever. No shock really since fellow Welsh man Tim Wright did the music

For me, 90s game music peaked at the end of 1999 with Ape Escape. I still remember when I bought Ape Escape and Dino Crisis the same day in summer 1999, I had the best games to end a decade and a century, and I was a happy kid.

I miss the surreal, ambient, tranced and dreamlike tone of video game music we had in the 90's.

It was ahead of its time. We really don't get much like it these days. It needs a comeback.

90s arcade music is a definite yes, Sega's Model 2 and Namco System 11/22 arcade boards had amazing sound chips which produced some memorable soundtracks. I still even listen to the Tekken 3 and Ridge Racer soundtrack on occasion. The 2000s does come close, The Sims Build mode music for one:

I love that song so much. I used to just sit on the world map outside the first town and let it play. The opening theme and Marco's boss music are also standouts.

This is a personal favorite from the chip tune era

If any game needs a remaster collection right now it’s Turrican. 💯👊🏿
