A good digital camera for 200 bucks?

At this point in time, you're better off detailing a little about what you want, because there's really a wide variety of price/performance trade-ins you can make. Knowing nothing, I'd start by recommending the Canon A510 -- although you might be able to find an A85/95 (earlier model) for a similar price.

I'd look at what these brands have to offer:

Canon
Sony
Nikon
Olympus

This is actually for a friend of mine, but in any case, it is for an amature photographer who is looking for a decent (image quality) camera as he will be using it to take pictures when he travels. We've checked out both canon and sony's websites. The cybershot dsc-d40 (4.1 megapixels) looks pretty good, but we couldn't find many reviews for it.

As for canon, the a510 also looks pretty good. But it's 3.2 megapixels? Does that matter? We really don't know how to compare them...
