I've known the guy for years and I don't think he was serious.

Pretending to be depressed was just his gimmick and having just talked to him a few days ago and how calm he seems in his tweets just reinforces that.

He really did screw up though, hopefully he learned his lesson. At least I hope that is the case.

I see this attitude again and again and I think it's a really dangerous one to hold. The fact is you don't know what's going through the man's head and the fact that you seem to think it's a gimmick is doing no one favors. The first thing you see whenever you hear a news report about a suicide is someone saying "Yeah, I knew him he talked about being depressed but I didn't know he was going to do anything."

it's ok, you're all right now

Does he have a girlfriend? Or does his social life complaints mesh or what? I think a lot of suicidal people put off a different persona than they feel internally and that's why a lot of people don't take them seriously when they say they're going to kill themselves or do stupid shit. It's like "hey, that guy seems normal, he's just shit talking for attention."

I feel so bad for this guy. I can only imagine how much it must suck to be taken in by the cops, poked and prodded at a hospital, etc. Here's hoping none of this drives him to want to kill himself more.

Edit: Wrong thread, kind of. Meant to provide a link to this in another thread as a good example of people who understand.

Donnie ‏@DonnieRye
@liewmomo Long story. Suicidal thoughts. Went to a clinic for a bit.

I want to play guitar but I can't find my nail clipper. They didn't allow things like that in the loony bin.

Donnie ‏@DonnieRye
I spent 5 days without music and it feels so great to get back to it.

EDIT:

He has also changed his imgur profile. It now reads...

Hi. I was in a behavioral health institute for a bit. I'm fine now. Ask me about music or Korean language. I'm learning Korean now.

"I'm fine now"

Probably more like scared shitless. In the US, the moment an authority hears you say you wanna kill yourself, they seal you away for mandatory psychiatric evaluation in a hospital, often with a bunch of loud, crazy people in a ward. For many, it can be an aggravating or even terrifying experience. You learn pretty fast to never, ever say you are feeling suicidal out loud again.

At least, that's been the experience with people I know.

People never realize how much they love life until they get on their death bed. It has to happen to some before they understand how meaningful life actually is. I had the same thing happen and I'm wonderful. No stress in my life at all right now, unlike how I used to be, where I would worry about every stinking thing.

Edit:
I just got out of jail because people were accusing me of being suicidal and being on bath salts lol. It was the stupidest thing ever. I did go nuts though and fight the cops because they ran in my house after I told them to leave.

He asked me via Twitter to thank everyone involved, guys. He's fine and I think going to that clinic was a nice experience for him, according to what he wrote about it.

Good job everyone :3

Glad to hear it is turning out for the best. A lot of people ended up in a situation where they were ready to take their lives away, but circumstances differed and now they are gone. There's a lot of good people and communities out there (be it suicide hotlines, homeless shelters, etc.), and hopefully more effort can be made to make people aware and willing to communicate with them to get the help they need.

It's dumb how little money is spent by governments on this actually.

Thanks for that update Deliverance. I just sent him a message on FB as well. I'm very pleased to see an apparent happy resolution.

This, except fortunately there were no "loud, crazy people" when I was there. Everyone was calm. But the fact you are stuck in a cubicle and not allowed any possessions is more depressing than not.

Yup! I had this exact experience with my former roommate's ex-GF. Threatened to kill herself, cops show up, psychiatrist shows up, they talk awhile and she's all smiles...until they inform her that she's going to a psychiatric ward, and doesn't have a choice in the matter.

Spent a week there, told us she had a bed next to some lunatic that would recite some sort of prayer over and over again, something about loving God and not being the devil.

Thankfully, it was the catalyst to get her on meds, and she's been a-ok ever since.

He has posted more details...

I can't make a GAF because I only have a gmail

Donnie @DonnieRye · 16h
but I wasn't scared being in there. It was nice. The people were cool. They were normal people like you and I.

Donnie @DonnieRye · 16h
most of the people were detox. Coming off of years of substance abuse like alcohol and heroin.

Donnie @DonnieRye · 16h
no one was punching walls or throwing chairs or trying to run away in my side of the building. Those people were in an intensive care unit.

Donnie @DonnieRye · 16h
which is where the people with severe anger issues, bipolar disorder, and the schizophrenics go.

Donnie @DonnieRye · 14h
@liewmomo Yep. I think I'll be okay now.

It's funny how going to these places actually has helped plenty of people I know. Never been a believer. I guess it really works, at least for a while.

Yes, scared shitless. People with suicidal tendencies are usually scared as fuck.

It's pretty depressing how people can't empathize with other when it comes to this kind of stuff.

I am so glad he's okay and doing better. You done good GAF.

Donnie, if you make it over here feel free to pm me if you need to talk. I also tweeted you (odd username with poetry in it). Keeping fighting man, you are kicking it's ass.

Well if that's his twitter feed it doesn't make any sense out of whats going on...
I mean for a dude who's going to off himself tomorrow he seems pretty happy
My best friend was the happiest man in the world about 6 hours before he committed suicide. It doesn't matter how happy people act if there is something seriously wrong most people won't know.
I really hate when people say "he seems happy" that doesn't mean shit.
